Hurricane Sandy updates

My mom called! I couldn't get through to her on her cell phone because she was evac'ed from her hotel and forgot her charger. I didn't even think to ask where she was when it hit, but she apparently was much closer to the coast than I thought. But, she called! I'm happy now.

We lost internet and cable last night and just got it back. Feeling incredibly blessed that those were the only things we lost. We have power and no trees fell.

I am just catching up on what has happened elsewhere. How sad to see so many dead. My thoughts are with their families.

Just watching world news or something.. had a bit about how there is 50-60 feet of water in the tunnels... then I thought of the transient people who live down there. Sad that anything about them will never been broadcast on the news. Hopefully all of them got up to the surface in time. :(

Not a link to back it up, but I heard they arrested some idiot that was trying to surf Lake Huron last night....

Some people will never get it, will they?

There were "surfers" along Chicago's Gold Coast on Lake Michigan last night

Governor Christie looks like he hasn't slept in days. It is obvious he is devastated and truly cares.

I adore me some Chris Christie! Man he was fuming mad at the mayor of AC! I swear I thought I saw steam coming out of his ears! He's a real straight shooting guy, no candy coated political bs from him.... Ever!

In contrast, the mayor of AC was the very soul of graciousness when asked about the governor.

Not so much as a stray twig in my yard, just leaves. Didn't lose power or cable. Which is shocking because Comcast sucks in my little town. If someone farts too loud ...we lose cable! Every single storm we had this past summer we lost electric.

Where I live was in the direct path of the storm. I don't know how we got so lucky, but I'm thankful. Was only scary last night for about two hours. Never in my life have I heard wind howl like that.

We got our power back a little while ago! Pretty amazing! I read back a bit but I'll never be able to catch up on everything! LOL
Glad to see so many have checked in and are doing ok!
Herding, so happy my DD has been able to help keep track of your Mom. Can't believe your mom went for a walk! She sounds like a pistol! Glad Kris has been able to put you at ease a little.

WS is a wonderful, wonderful place. Gives me the warm fuzzies!

Just wanted to add... We were so incredibly lucky this time around. We have so many huge trees surrounding our house and all we lost were several at the very back of our property. There was some very minor damage to our neighbors houses, and a HUGE pine tree uprooted across the street. We had absolutely no damage! It was like the storm went right around our house! We must have had some wicked good karma going on! LOL

Sugar, you have NO idea how much it relieved me to know she was there if Mom needed her. It's so hard with aging parents being across the country...especially when this kind of thing happens. So to know that there was someone I could count on to get to Mom if the need arose made me far easier in my skin.

Thank you, SQ, and huge thanks to your dd...you done good, as they say.

Best-
Herding Cats

We came out fine after the storm. Power stayed on, basement didn't flood and all my trees are still intact. My brand new and really heavy gas grill wasn't so lucky. The wind knocked it over and now parts have to be found and, hopefully, put back together.

And no power. I checked the weather for NY, it's supposed to rain until Friday.
So many people stranded who cannot get to shelters yet.
Prayers for all affected.

The caring and reaching out here on the boards brings me to tears. Happy tears. Especially with Herding and Sugar (pardon the short forms on names). How many times are we here on the boards and get to see the good side of folks. Not so much. It truly reminds me of the good that still exists in this world.

our comcast always goes out too and it's been out all day. I hate to complain when wehave power and no flooding but I feel so isolated from what is going on in the worldaround me without the news on tv or internet. I don't think the kids are gonna make it another day cooped up with no tv or internet! getting stir crazy. This junky phone is not making it!

I am jumping in to tell you all how proud I am to be a WSer!

You are all so resilient, resourceful, and compassionate!

I am in SoCal... But have been following your plight through Sandy...

and I am eating canned chili in support of those of you who are without power right now!

My thoughts and :praying: to all of you and your families!

Herding Cats,
Sorry to post this here but I wanted to make sure you see it. Can you text DD with your mom' address ? She tried calling her today but didn't get an answer. I told her your mom took a walk. She wants to bring your mom lunch tomorrow and visit to make sure she stays put! LOL Please let her know if mom has any dietary restrictions, or may need any supplies.
Thanks
