I'm checking...waiting for a response! :jail:

Sorry, just to be clear -- I was assuming that the person you were referring to had some prior connection to this case. If they don't, I don't think you should post sleuthing of some random person in jail in Black Hawk.

Probably not related, but:

http://www.kcrg.com/news/local/167327285.html

LINN COUNTY, Iowa - There is currently a strong police presence north Alburnett near Paris Road and Alburnett Road. Neighbors in the area tell KCRG-TV9 that have seen have seen several law enforcement vehicles speeding by.

A TV9 News team is on the way. Watch for updates on the TV9 News at Midday.

ETA: another local station is reporting neighbors say a body has been found.

Can we map this out, in relation to where the girls were last seen?

It does appear to be a "stand-off" case, but you never know.....

Alburnett is about 40-60 mins south of Evansdale. I don't know how to map it but it's actually closer to Muckersville where the police are. It's about 10 mins from my house.

If the girls did go inside a house or garage, then obviously the perp is local- and that perp may very well know the people who live down by the lake and whether they would be home or not. They would also be aware of the kind of risk it would be to move the bikes, and would be able weigh the risk/ benefit ratios for their actions. They would also be aware of what behaviors would arouse suspicion in the people around them.

Just jumping off of your post. If the bikes were just the dumping point, the perp could have ridden one bike at a time down there. Even if he was a local, and regularly rode the trail, who would think anything of it? Just riding a bike around the lake. Then he could have walked back and got bike #2 and rode it to the dump site.

Just a thought that popped into my head on how to get the bikes there without being obviously suspicious. This could be done from a home or a nearby parked vehicle.

It could be.

I think it's likely that the perp is an adult. Most adults are taller than 4'1" and would look pretty out of place on Elizabeth's bicycle.

An adult wheeling a kid's bike might not draw attention, though. I think most people might assume the bicycle belonged to a younger sibling or their own child, depending on the age of the perp.

The thing about this current Linn County report that is interesting is that there is such a police presence, swat team, news teams heading there. There seem to be lots of shootings, etc., going on all the time...just listen to any scanner in the country, but they don't send in so many people...usually. MOO

How do you know that the dogs were tracking versus casting around for more scent?

I do not know. This is what was said. They went to the water and then into the woods.

I will start at Collins home and go past where the camera caught them and the onto Lafayette st, to the bike path and will go past the water lawn guys house to the lake. I will also record the woods and all aound where the bikes were found. Anything else?

It might be helpful to set your tacometer when you start, so that the distance can be accurately gauged and transferred to bicycle times.

Could you check to see if there is a path that goes directly east along the fence line behind the grassy area, past the Maiden Lane entrance on the other side, where the trail goes to the left (i.e., straight along the highway side fence line).?

Wear boots..LOL

Does Aunt T work? How was she able to immediately arrive to help search for the girls?

I know I am way behind, and have seen this question asked, but nobody has provided any sort of answer...

Why did she immediately go to the lake where the bikes were located? If the girls had never been there before, and were not allowed to go that far by bike, then WHY LOOK THERE?? I'd probably have driven up and down local neighborhood streets for a while, figuring the girls had stopped to see, talk to, or play with another child.

Unless a "big deal" had specifically been made with regard to the girls wanting to ride to the lake and being told no, why would that be the first place you would think to look? I mean, if they had asked the night before to go there, and had been told "no" it would make a lot more sense to go right to the (forbidden) lake, since the girls had expressed an interest in it.

MOO

This is great !! Please be on the lookout for any kind of searches or areas marked off by crime scene tape that we haven't talked about here. TIA
