I would love to join ya, but I'm gonna party like a rock star on this Thursday night. I'm headed to get groceries in a bit. :woohoo:

No, no...don't everyone ask to join me...I only allow the hardest of partiers to come along for this kind of ride.

:rocker:

Heeheee... I went to a party at a grocery store also. The highlite of my day.

Asking an unnecessary question, as it doesn't really matter, but why would someone's house need to be cleaned every day?

I have a feeling that on this particular day, Grandma came over to watch the little ones because Heather had an appt and Drew was at work.

Maybe Heather was so weak she couldn't care for the kids on her own, so Grandma came to help. Made meals, picked up, did laundry, and just helped around the house in general...but maybe it was also caring for Heather.

Is it common for Drew to come home at 12:30? Is it likely (because he's self employed) he typically came home for lunch?

I have wondered about the cleaning too. What I am thinking is, a lot of older ladies, grandmas, cleaned their homes every day, and would probably continue to do so when they were caring for their daughter's home. There were quite a few people there at the Collin's home over the course of a day, the girls could be wiping down the bathroom, a high traffic area, every time they were there. Also, I wonder if Grandma was trying to instill the idea of order and work ethic in the girls, especially Lyric, who had dysfunction and chaos in her young life.

Sapphire, my friend, :crush: I'm so glad to see you. 3CK and I have been absolutely bored to tears!

First and foremost, I try to stay within the :innocent: :tos: :floorlaugh:
For all intents and purposes, to me, it looks and feels what a sexual predator abduction should feel like. Two children vanish seemingly off the face of the earth w/o a trace and then their bodies are found five months later at an out of the way place.

Hypothetically-speaking, if this was another situation where someone would gain something by the girls being dead, we have only circumstantial evidence from what I can tell. I think, if this ever goes to trial, the jury is going to want to see DNA evidence. If the murders were hypothetically performed by a family member, I just don't see DNA being much use. We need a confession in this hypothetical situation. That could be a long wait, maybe even never. Well, there was that one crazy dude that confessed from the jail, but I don't think the hypothetically proposed family member will ever confess.

Awww :tyou:

Amen to that re. confession.

The comforting thing for me is that if this is as planned as I think it was, there's at least one other conspirator, probably two or more.

This increases the chances of someone blabbing, three + fold :D

The perp might think himself a criminal mastermind but his accomplices most likely will not be the sharpest tools in the shed and they are very likely to give something away to someone, even advertently.

It wouldn't surprise me if we have to wait for another arrest/sentencing on something much more trivial, then someone who knows someone who's heard something will attempt to bargain what they know for a lighter sentence.

Someone in that town knows...in fact I'd say, quite a few someones.

I think it may be easier for Drew to feel this horrible crime was committed by a nameless, faceless sexual predator rather than someone known to him. JMO.

I completely agree with you. :rocker:

Fine! Just get your ole groceries and party like a rockstar w/o us. We'll party right here. Marilyn will make her famous bean dip, cinder will be bringing a rumcake and SS is bringing a cheese course, a sampling of local Australian sheep cheeses with wine - Madria Sangria to be exact. Just kidding of course my friend!

Partying on a Thursday night....... HMMMMMMMM...... you must share the details if you dare!! Lucky you! :seeya:

For all those who are certain this is a sexual predator abduction - why?

Is there some evidence/information I've overlooked? :dunno:

I believe many people feel this way because statistically it is likely:

Child abduction murderers share a characteristic with classical serial killers – both show a sexual component to their motivation to kill. More than two-thirds (69.2%) of child abduction murders involved a sexual motive, compared to only 5% of all murders and 14% of child murders. Almost one-half (46.3%) of the child abduction murders were classified as rapes and 21.9% as other sexual assaults. As one would expect in these types of murders, a large group (27.8%) were kidnappings, which is approximately 15 times greater than in all child murders and 30 times greater than in murders in general.

However, it is still my opinion that this horrible crime's motivation was not primarily sexual.

I don't have any information or evidence, guess it's just a gut feeling for me.

Yes, absolutely! Men are rather sensitive and caring albeit they are not supposed to show it. It would be easier for this monster to be faceless and nameless than to be someone you consider a brother, or considered a brother at one point in your life. Those feelings don't change overnight.

Wow, that's interesting. I never thought about someone from Waterloo driving to Bremer County to deliver drugs. I guess I figured the customers would come to the dealer.

ETA: I believe I'm not violating TOS by posting a link to the FB page of the guy in the article:

His entry of October 9, 2010 is chilling. I guess that shows what the meth world does to your thinking. JMO.

Apparently he was in a hurry to get to his own accident.

Every time there is an arrest involving meth, I hope for breaking news...then when I seen he was in Readlyn I got even more hopeful!

:please:

Me too.

I think this is what Smock meant when he said it is a "very unique" crime. He doesn't mean it's unique in the history of the town, in my opinion, he means the crime itself is unique - ie, not a standard pedophile abduction with predictable tragic results.

You would describe Jaycee's abduction as unique (in retrospect), because they kept her alive.

You would describe Jonbenet's death as unique, because no little white girls have ever been molested and murdered in their own wealthy homes by a mystery note writing intruder before.

Smock said "very unique" which says to me that this one shows nothing familiar - ie, no sexual motive.

Ugh I hate grocery shopping, I do it online.

No queues, no lugging heavy bags, no screeching toddlers.

According to Tammy, once the crime scene tape came down, Dan did "what any other Dad would do" and started searching for clues.

Don't get me wrong...I understand the concept of using a quad when you're trying to cover a lot of ground. I completely get that. However, the area of Maiden Lane is NOT that big. Also, you can see how dense that area is with trees. Sure, you could take a quad from Arbutus down into Maiden Lane (what....50/100ft?) but there is no way you'd actually be able to efficiently "search" for someone in that area with a quad. The trees are growing extremely close together, and with the extreme vegetation you'd never be able to get a quad through there...or you'd be completely wasting time trying to. It just makes more sense, if you're trying to look for clues to be on foot...down close to the ground, looking for pieces of fabric possibly torn from clothing, or any other sort of small evidence.

Now, if you're riding through a field or a much larger wooded area with less density of tree growth, it makes perfect sense to use a quad to cover a large amount of ground in a small time.

You can probably search the entire area of Maiden Lane on your hands and knees in less than 2 hours. :(

I guess because we have quads, I know how difficult they are to naviagate. They are at least 3 feet wide, have HORRIBLE turning radiuses, and are just a pain in the 🤬🤬🤬 to navigate in tight quarters. They are made for open throttle riding, jumping, etc...they aren't made to turn easily, hence the width in comparison to the length to prevent turnovers.

Overall, my point is just that it's probably the LEAST effective way to actually search for someone/anything in a dense area.

However, I don't fault him for bringing it if he thought they were going to have to be searching much larger areas for the girls.

I assumed Dan got the quad brought to the lake so he could travel quickly around the perimeter of the lake. Maybe that was the thought in his mind, check around the lake, maybe see something, or someone, that nobody else has yet. I wonder if he also thought he could quickly ride up and down the nearby streets, and around the nearby homes, in case the girls were wandering around there. During the frantic search would the police get after or fine the father of one of the girls for not having a licence, or riding a quad on public roads searching for his daughter?

We have quads too, and you're correct that they are useless in a dense area. That's why I assume Dan wanted his quad so he could quickly ride around the lake and the trail, and any open areas and the nearby streets.

Definitely would be several someones... I think there is quite a bit of tension whereever those someones happen to reside even if not in the same location. Cannot be pleasant to be so tense waiting for the inevitable.

Dan didn't get to the lake until nearly 5, two hours after he was called.

LE had already searched by then, a fireman found the bikes at 4pm.
