Did Dan have access to another vehicle? Was the quad the only means of transportation he owned?

It has been rumored that Dan did have access to his girlfriends vehicle. But, according to Tammy his mom took off work and brought him to the lake, so access to another vehicle wouldn't have been necessary.

I wonder if AFTER they realized the bikes were found at the lake Dan called someone and had them bring it down maybe?

You don't have to have a license to ride a quad...HOWEVER, they are not allowed on public roads, gravel or not...

We have an acreage that is common ground for our development and the kids have been told by the police on more than one occassion that they can NOT ride the quads in the cul-de-sac OR use the road to access the acrage. They have to ride through the backyards to the back access.

My point being, nowhere in the state is it legal to ride a quad unless you are on private property or are in a designated area for quads/motorsports. There is an area in Ely/Solon area called Lakeview OHV Park that people ride...but again, it's not on public roads.

I just wonder what on earth would make him think to bring a quad.

Maybe that's how the girls made a little money. Heather would pay them to clean her house to make a little spending cash or to squirrel away for a rainy day.

Good morning Bunnyhop!:seeya:

I took it to mean that Elizabeth was a good kid who didn't have to be nagged to help her mother with the housework while she was sick, and Lyric helped because she was a friend and also a good kid.

Hibiscus:
Hibiscus - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I really don't want to beat a dead horse here.
But I do know a bit about gardens and flowers.

True hibiscus are tropical. The planners" may have meant rose of sharon.

But again, there are no real plans submitted to review.

Real plans would include budget, work schedules, real blue prints, timing, real plant material, native species etc. I have not seen any of that.

Also when presenting horticultural plans, Latin names are standard.

Just saying..................... :fence:

I think that what we have to realize is that the people that are organizing the memorial are looking for volunteers to complete all aspects of the project. Detailed plans with schedules and budgets take time, professional skills and usually a lot of money. You seem very knowledgeable about horticulture. I'm wondering ... if you were to make decisions about the best plants for the Island ... what choices would you make and which plants would you locate together based on ensuring optimal plant strength and growth? What root types do you think would ensure minimum erosion: coniferous or deciduous?

To me a quad is an ATV - all terrain vehicle. They are also used to search for people, just like people on horses and people on foot. A quad is made to go through the woods and mud and tough areas that would be hard to navigate by vehicle. To search for the girls by quad makes sense to me. Personally, come hell or high water, if my kid was missing, I would have ridden my bicycle to get there or walked through grassburrs and searched by any means necessary. Did Dan actually search after he arrived to Meyers Lake or did he just sit with the rest of the family not even searching the bicycle trail? JMO

According to Tammy, once the crime scene tape came down, Dan did "what any other Dad would do" and started searching for clues.

Don't get me wrong...I understand the concept of using a quad when you're trying to cover a lot of ground. I completely get that. However, the area of Maiden Lane is NOT that big. Also, you can see how dense that area is with trees. Sure, you could take a quad from Arbutus down into Maiden Lane (what....50/100ft?) but there is no way you'd actually be able to efficiently "search" for someone in that area with a quad. The trees are growing extremely close together, and with the extreme vegetation you'd never be able to get a quad through there...or you'd be completely wasting time trying to. It just makes more sense, if you're trying to look for clues to be on foot...down close to the ground, looking for pieces of fabric possibly torn from clothing, or any other sort of small evidence.

Now, if you're riding through a field or a much larger wooded area with less density of tree growth, it makes perfect sense to use a quad to cover a large amount of ground in a small time.

You can probably search the entire area of Maiden Lane on your hands and knees in less than 2 hours. :(

I guess because we have quads, I know how difficult they are to naviagate. They are at least 3 feet wide, have HORRIBLE turning radiuses, and are just a pain in the 🤬🤬🤬 to navigate in tight quarters. They are made for open throttle riding, jumping, etc...they aren't made to turn easily, hence the width in comparison to the length to prevent turnovers.

Overall, my point is just that it's probably the LEAST effective way to actually search for someone/anything in a dense area.

However, I don't fault him for bringing it if he thought they were going to have to be searching much larger areas for the girls.

I wonder if he was using it to go around on the bike path.

I know men who just won't walk. We have a neighbor who would take his motorbike the 200 feet to his mailbox if his wife would let him.

:floorlaugh:

Today is going to be an interesting day for me. For some reason, I'm finding everything is absolutely cracking me up.

I'm just picturing this old guy walking to the mailbox cursing his wife the entire way..."damn you woman - just let a guy do ONE THING he wants to do today! If I want to get out my damn scooter, I ain't hurtin' NOBODY!"

Heh, yeah, that is pretty much the situation, except he's not an old guy at all. I enjoyed sharing your laugh. It's good for the mental health.

I haven't caught up on today's posts, but wanted to see what you guys thought about this:

One Florida county is taking its duty to notify neighbors about sex offenders living in the community to the next level and posting red road side outside the homes of rapists and child molesters.

The sheriff of Bradford County, Florida, decided the reflective signs, which have each offender's name, should be planted on the roadways outside the houses of convicted sexual predators to ward off children and notify parents about potentially-dangerous convicts in the area.

'If it prevents one more victim in my community, I've done my job as sheriff,' Sheriff Gordon Smith told First Coast News.

Yes! Thank you, thank you, thank you Marilyn! I so appreciate you digging this up for me. It's been driving me bonkers. As I said in my earlier post, I'm quite inclined to believe that we're looking at a more urban (relatively speaking!) than rural perp. Someone from E'dale/W'loo/CF that would be familiar enough w/ Meyers Lake to pull off the abduction and murder with such precision to leave behind seemingly nary a trace of evidence (that we know of), whom would also be removed enough from rural life and outdoor activities to believe that two beautiful little girls would not be found at 7 Bridges.

On the contrary, I think that the killer was just very familiar with the traffic at seven bridges, he knew very well when the park was active and when it wasn't. This tells me he is very local and has lived in the area for his whole life.

I wouldn't make those decisions. As I said earlier, that's what landscape designers do.

I'm still stumped as to how Dan was able to bring a quad in here and drive around to do "their own investigation".

I wonder what would make Dan bring his quad with him anyway. If Misty called him and said the girls were missing and bikes were found at the lake, I wonder what made him think "I better bring my quad". :waitasec:

Certainly doesn't look to me like an area that a quad would be easily navigated.

I took the pictures to show how easy it is to navigate thru. What kinda makes me scratch my head about bringing the quad is why? Why ride a quad when you can just walk the area in no time, it isn't that large of an area. But then maybe he just wanted to ride around the whole lake quicker.

I think it is a wonderful idea. Soon the country will be lite up with reflective signs. I'm not being nasty but its so true, there are so many sexual perps who abuse children anymore it's horrible.

Please do NOT take this as "supporting" sex offenders, because I'm NOT, it's just my :twocents: on the EFFECTIVENESS of this.

If they are going to do this, then I think they should "spread the equality" and do it for people who have been charged with OWI, Armed Robbery, Dealing Drugs, etc.

Why target sex offenders out of all the criminals? Yes, sexual offenses are labeled the most heinous by societal standards...however, the # of people killed by someone who drives drunk every day is much higher than those killed by sexual predators. "Everyone knows someone who has gotten an OWI, and we've all probably gotten lucky by not getting caught driving when we shouldn't have" is what I hear all the time. :furious:

Who is at a higher risk of harming someone?

By all means, let's allow our kids ride their bikes on the road where the jerk comes swerving home every day or deals drugs by schools...that's so much safer.

I don't know how this would stop an offender from re-offending anymore than it would stop a drunk from picking up a roadie for his drive home.

But whatever, I'm sure I'm in the minority here with my opinion and that's ok. I just feel it's a false sense of security for communities and a PR thing for people to feel that LE has it all under control.
