ROCKWELL CITY — A Farnhamville man facing first degree murder charges for killing a teenager in 2024 has waived his right to a jury trial.

Nathaniel Bevers-McGivney, 22, waived his right to a jury trial which had been scheduled to begin July 8 in Calhoun County District Court. Instead, Bevers-McGivney’s attorney has requested a bench trial in which only a judge will hear arguments from attorneys.


I shall keep an eye out to see if he has a hearing before his trial.

A Gowrie man has been convicted of brutally killing a teenage girl last year in a crime that rocked her small Calhoun County community.

Nathaniel Bevers-McGivney, 22, was convicted Wednesday, July 9, of first-degree murder and abuse of a corpse in the September disappearance and death of Farnhamville 17-year-old Michele "Luna" Jackson. District Judge Derek Johnson filed his written verdict and findings of fact just hours after hearing closing arguments from both sides' attorneys.

In his order, Johnson described overwhelming evidence against Bevers-McGivney, including many details not previously disclosed in court filings. Among them: DNA evidence showed that blood on Bevers-McGivney's clothing and a broken knife and a towel found at his residence was Jackson's.

To find Bevers-McGivney guilty of first-degree murder, Johnson had to determine he had killed Jackson with premeditation and malice aforethought. He found Bevers-McGivney had armed himself with a knife before going to the park and that in addition to cutting Jackson's throat, he stabbed her in the back until his knife blade broke off inside her, then continued attempting to stab her with the broken blade.

Bevers-McGivney is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 15 and faces a mandatory life sentence without parole.

The State rested their case at mid-morning Wednesday. The defense only asked to submit a deposition from Bevers McGivney’s aunt, Leilani Lint, which was approved.

Judge Derek Johnson deliberated for nearly two hours before ruling that Bevers McGivney was guilty of first-degree murder & abuse of a corpse for his attempts to hide Jackson’s body.
Bevers-McGivney is scheduled to be sentenced on 8/15/25 & faces a mandatory life sentence without parole.
