The affidavit was released about 40 mins before his first hearing today. I imagine this was the same time BK got it.
I’m actually taken back at how calm and collected he was in that hearing. He spoke clearly, didnt seem to be anxious at all.
He’s just read all the stuff they’ve got on him, that the penalty could be death and that was his demeanour?

Also why was he so “eager to get back to Idaho to be exonerated”
He must have knew he left his sheath at the crime scene.
Honestly none of it makes any sense.

The only thing I can think is that he wanted the notoriety. And I’m dissapointed to say he’s got it, it’s a media circus.
He’ll feel like a celeb right now.
He may not have had a chance to read it. It was likely send to his lawyer and she may have read it but he may not have seen it yet.

I was reading headlines - why did he return. Wondering if he realized he dropped the sheath and went back to see about retrieving it? More likely he was curious about response, but recovery of evidence left behind may be possible? And he got spooked and left.
Either way - I feel like all the circumstantial evidence they have in the PCA definitely strongly, strongly, super strength power, point towards LE having "their man."
since he is so odd (I want to use another word), maybe he came back to leave the sheath there because no one found the crime scene yet and he is willing to give investigators another clue. to me, IMO, the sheath is as good as the weapon evidence-wise. IMO

Correct.

And while it’s a survey, for a masters student to do any research is usually a good thing. The standard is just lower. It was also IRB approved- just poor quality questions/measures and very qualitative (not bad just not ideal for actually getting at his RQ, an interview model would have been stronger to get at actual psychology).
I'll rephrase my original question because I'm genuinely curious.
On what basis could the Moscow/Quadruple murders be used for a dissertation? Knowing what we know now.?

My heart hurts so very much for Dylan and is filled with compassion for her.

My first cousin was in his early 20's when his best friend was murdered right in front of him.

The crime occurred in the home of his best friend (the victim) when the victim started arguing with his girlfriend.
He pinned her while she was standing, she reached grabbed a knife that was on the counter stabbing him several times. My cousin and the 2 others were horrified at what was unfolding right in front of them. But they were frozen, unable to comprehend. It was some time before the 911 call was made by a neighbor.

So in the aftermath, my cousin was never ever the same. He was a fantastic worker prior to that, he could never hold down a job and a few years later did not work again. He continued to live with my Aunt and Uncle.
He drank and did drugs more than he did prior to that incident. A lot more.

He was an avid hunter that always hunted every season with his father (my Uncle). He hunted only one time after that then never hunted again,
The deer carcass was in the back of the pickup, once home, they were both in the process of removing the deer and my cousin "flipped out". My Uncle said that he was shocked and had no clue at the time why that happened. Later, my Uncle finally found out.

The smell of the blood.

My cousin had smelled blood from deer hunting each and every time he hunted and removed the deer from the back of a pickup truck since he was old enough to hunt. But on that day, it all changed.

He associated that smell with the day his best friend was killed and the scent of blood he had to smell.

Sorry so long of a post and there are a lot more incidents that occurred with my cousin after. So many everyday things ringing his mind back to that day.
A scent, certain words, a person he passes in a store or anywhere in his life the resembles anyone in the house that day.
There was no way he would speak to a therapist. One time he did try on the prompting of my Aunt and Uncle, but he did not go again. According to my Aunt and Uncle, he felt there was no way that a therapist could help him because they have never experienced what he did, he just lived with the horror on his own.
He has guilt and so many other emotions. No, he could not have prevented what happened even though he has been told that there was nothing he could have done, he lives with guilt.

I could go on and on about the things in our every day life that we think nothing of, but to a traumatized person, it is utter hell.

I want to stress that the incident my cousin witnessed and mind state is nothing at all what Dylan is enduring.

I am just trying to say that Dylan experienced trauma like no other and throughout her lifetime, there are going to be trauma memories that can happen in an instant that no one will coincide and connect with that horrifying night.
She could be shopping one day, see, smell or hear something from her memory of the time of the murders and break down right then and there and no one would think at that moment it time that has anything to do with her traumatic experience.
Huge cyber hug to Dylan and so very much compassion to her.
Great post on the effects of ptsd (post-traumatic stress disorder). I'm sorry your cousin went through it and is presumably still going through it. Your post shows how much merely witnessing violence can cause ptsd or cptsd.

I'm really hoping for Dylan that she'll get into really good trauma therapy, or maybe already has an excellent trauma therapist to help her. That would include informing her and her family of what to expect e.g. breakdown at a resurfacing memory that seems to have nothing to do with original event.

Edited for a typo.

Yeah, his dissertation could have been covering the "Moscow, ID Massacre", with review of crime, weapon, evidence...

Maybe he can finish his PhD, while incarcerated.
I'd like to read the Masters Thesis he submitted "in narrative form" as an alternative to having completed gathering the data.

I assume he projected his own answers to some of the questions he'd asked of actual criminals and I'd like to know what those were.

Not only "how is that possible", but why was that information included in the PCA?
It doesn't say in the area of 1122 King. It says a cell tower that provides service to Moscow.

  • #228
I can not imagine that if he stalked at least one of the girls as extensively as the investigation suggests that he did not keep a souvenir, I hope he did, whether it be the knife or something from the house.

The probable cause affidavit mentions cell tower evidence showing BK’s phone being in the area of the King St house on the 14th, but they do not believe that to be true. How can they say that?

Here is the excerpt from the PCA:
Investigators found that the 8458 Phone did connect to a cell phone tower that provides service to Moscow on November 14, 2022, but investigators do not believe the 8458 Phone was in Moscow on that date. The 8458 Phone has not connected to any towers that provide service to Moscow since that date.
Maybe his phone briefly connected to a cell site that has the ability to reach Moscow from a distance. JMO.

he says he likes shoppping in Moscow.... he will say that the DD person did it IMO
and he (BK) got Door Dash the same night so cross contamination IMO
Where is it stated he got Door Dash that night aswell? Or are you saying hypothetically? They'd have ways to prove that if he actuality did.

Would never be allowed for HIM.

For someone else to use in the future? High probability someone will use it and the psychology but would likely need to be coupled with other mass (not serial) murders MO. Not likely it could be used for a dissertation as a case study.

I would bet money someone 🤬🤬🤬 in the field will use it as a case study for a publication once all evidence is out. We have enough people who study mass murder psychology that it will be one example, especially given the CCJ (Criminology and criminal justice) connection.

Night sleuthers! Thanks for allowing me to be a part of the conversation. I haven’t been here since the awful Watts case.

And stay safe! Seriously! I have a very loud barking dog who would probably hide if I were attacked…. Or maybe not. I don’t want to find out. So my sliding door is secured and my windows are locked. Not saying at all this wasn’t the case in this heartbreaking crime. I just always make sure.

I believe he was stalking at least one of the girls. Jmo. We never know who’s watching. That sounds so dire, but it is true. Be safe! ❤️

This. I think it was in the Chandler Halderson trial where the cell phone expert said that random towers may get pinged briefly if the closer ones aren’t available. So there may have been a random ping to one that serves Moscow but then quickly went back to the other “regular” Pullman ones.

I think that was just an opinion on what BK might say, but of course, the police can always trace door dash orders so I wouldn't really give it much attention to it unless BK is dumb enough to try and think that it couldn't be debunked. Which may be the case because for someone who is going for a Doctorate in a CJ field he sure was real sloppy with this one

I don’t see how cross contamination happens on the snap of the sheath but that’s jmo. I could, and have been many times, be wrong.
Hopefully they have found more DNA evidence since then.

Thank you.
what elements would preclude it from dissertation material?

Maybe knock offs because I dont think they'd have the Marines stamp on the sheath.

Looks like they are sold by Sportsmans Warehouse with a USMC sheath.

There's a location 23 miles from Moscow/Pullman in Lewiston, ID.

Probably would be best if the family didn't have to read or hear these things yet. It's so soon after their child's death to hear such horrid details. The families don't even have time to process the loss.
A lot of family members want to know every little detail. Sometimes they want to see their loved one even if they are advised against it. I'm thinking somehow it helps them. Not sure I could though.

What if he claims he’s been to a party at the house before, had seen the knife, been intrigued and touched it once. He could claim a frat boy left it or gave it to one of the girls for protection. Because the house is known for welcoming parties, it’s not strange that he could have happened to overhear conversations at mad Greek and gotten word of a party. He could claim that Because he was welcomed in to party in the past he felt like he could just randomly show up for a party in the future. On the night of the murder he was in the area because he was hoping for another welcoming party. He arrives at the house expecting a party….doesn’t find one there…but parked in the area and lurked around or knocked on doors or windows of 1122. He gives up after no one answers and goes home. He later learns of the murder and feels like he can’t come forward out of the fear of being accused. The knife and dna aren’t his main concern. He tries to defend his reason for being there. Now when they have dna of his on the sheath he offers up some insight- “the real killer used this girls knife against herself! I know this because I had talked to her before and she showed me this knife…”

In my mind it all comes down to victims DNA in the car.

To take take it a step further he could even say, yeah I entered a door because it was open. There’s always a party and it’s not even burglary because I just came here to party. I ended up leaving because it seemed like no one was awake. On the way out I walked past a roommate who just stood in the doorway.

I know this is extremely hard to believe, and I know a jury might convict with what is already known. I just find it absolutely imperative that victim dna be found in that car OR some proof that the sheath belongs to BK
Yeah, I don't think so. They have enough.

I hope that when they processed BK’s apartment, they found hairs from Murphy.
Since Murphy’s breed is hypoallergenic, does that also mean that he doesn’t shed though, or do hypoallergenic dogs still shed? Sorry if it seems like a dumb question, I am not familiar with all that the “hypoallergenic” label for dogs entails… from what I understand from friends who have them, they don’t shed. Either way though, even if there’s no physical evidence connected to Murphy, I’d be willing to bet BK’s car is chock full of physical evidence that would be far more useful in proving his guilt. That’s my hope anyway.
