i absolutely agree with you that he was working on changing his expressions/disguising himself to come across as more normal. I'm very intrigued by the report from his neighbor in the apartment complex in WA that she heard a woman's voice in his apartment exactly once. I keep asking myself who that might have been (a fellow PhD student?) and how significant that may have been for him. Because by all indications he lived a very solitary existence.

I wish we knew who that was and if she is OK.
I hope she has come forward to LE.
Otherwise, my mind immediately wonders if anyone is missing in that area.
I was following a Seattle story about a missing woman and she was killed after hanging out with a guy after the bar closed.
The suspect used to live in Pullman as well at one time before moving to Seattle...

The surviving roommates, who are respectively identified in the affidavit as B.F. and D.M., slept in bedrooms on the first and second floors of the rental home. Kernodle's bedroom was located on the second floor, investigators said, while Goncalves and Mogen lived in two adjacent rooms on the third and uppermost floor. Goncalves and Mogen were both found in Goncalves' bedroom, as was the dog that Goncalves shared with her ex-boyfriend, Jack DuCoeur.

D.M., who also slept on the second floor, later told police in an interview that she opened her door three times after waking up at around 4 a.m. to what she thought "sounded like Goncalves playing with her dog in one of the upstairs bedrooms, which were located on the third floor," according to the affidavit.

"A short time later, D.M. said she heard who she thought was Goncalves say something to the effect of 'there's someone here,'" the affidavit says. However, investigators pointed out that it could have been Kernodle's voice, since records from a forensic download of her cell phone "indicated she was likely awake and using the TikTok app at approximately 4:12 a.m."

D.M. told police that she "did not see anything" when she looked out of her bedroom for the first time after hearing the voice. When she opened her door a second time, after hearing what she believed was "crying coming from Kernodle's room," D.M. said that she heard a man's voice say "something to the effect of 'it's ok, I'm going to help you,'" according to the affidavit.

D.M. said that she heard crying again later and opened her door for the third time.

The roommate told police that the man walked past her while she stood at her bedroom doorway "in a 'frozen shock phase,'" and proceeded to exit the home through a sliding glass door at the back entrance. She told police that she locked herself inside of her room after seeing the masked individual.

I'm still haunted by what BK said to Xana. I understand killers will console their victims to prevent them from screaming but still - an odd thing for BK to say...A few thoughts:

- Is this insight into his thinking that he felt his crimes were helping his victims in some way? Did he think he was freeing them from some warped reality in his head?
- Did he already injure Xana and then spoke that after as if he would help her live instead further the injury for certain death? (dreadful)
- I can't help wonder if he actually said It's Ok. I won't kill you and DM misheard

JMO, MOO - Sad post, sorry but those words bother me :(

Hi guys.:) Have I missed a post about locating the DoorDash delivery person? Or the central office, or web site, where the orders come in? Not necessary for their name or anything, just, IMO, a verification of the time.

I am in the hospital and am doing my best to catch up but I'm a whole 2 threads behind.

I wanted to ask - first of all acknowledging the roommates are victims of this and I am not trying to insinuate that they aren't!! - WHY didn't D call 911 after she had run into BK? She just locked herself in her room, which I'm assuming has either her phone or a computer or both?

I am so confused and would love an answer on this if someone has the time.
I believe that she didn’t really process it when it happened (either drunk, thought she was dreaming, other). I believe the memories came out after. No real explanation for your question but that’s what I think.

The first thing that comes to mind knowing Kaylee is in town and her last night because she is moving.
That event stands out to me.
Why not wait til next weekend then?
Not that it couldn't be like you're saying... that it was Kaylee's last night. But sometimes things just happen for no reason that you can put your finger on. It could have been that, or it could have simply been that BK couldn't stand the wait any longer. The reason could have been all about him, and not about her.

Thank you, Mods, for all the work you do! You make WS a nice place to be. :)
I hope I post this correctly. This tragedy is affecting the entire county. Fear of students, parents, communities. My daughter is same age in college and this is a moms worst nightmare.

I comment the work being done and feel it is amazing that everyone is posting and putting thoughts into the details. With thousands of people looking it is better than a detective or so.

I’ve read all of your postings on here and some people have very quick minds to catch the little details.

I don’t have every detail about the pings etc but here is my thought if someone could respond.

From the very beginning I had issues with the roommates sleeping through this. After the affidavit, it’s clear they kept details under wrap for reasons. Although I do t know about you but it still does not sound complete with the details of the roommate. Is it plausible to anyone else that one she was hammered and doesn’t quite remember. I’ve been there. Or two that there was more she really saw?

It stated roommates called 911 saying there was someone unconscious. Yet there were two roommates there and friends.

According to warrant, the bedroom door to x room was open, so they all would have seen into the room and would have known more than unconscious.

It does sound logical as other poster put that the charges went in order

Seems logical he would have gone upstairs put the dog into the room seeing it was empty. Took the knif out of the sheath had to put the sheath somewhere right? Probably killed both girls quickly upstairs in the one bed.

This where it gets a little off. Seems more logical that he got there a few minutes before the door dash driver and was upstairs already when x went to front door to get doordash.

The report is strange possible to not divulge everything:

1673028547668.jpeg

clearly is changing some of the details. Possible for specific reasons.

At 4 she was woken up by commotion with the dog upstairs. ( could be dog being put in room)

She then heard who she thought was goncalves say someone’s here. (Could be she heard the dd driver at door with food) if it was her talking then who was she talking to? Maddie or someone else?

It states d looked out bedroom (possible out window) but doesn’t say she opened door. Then it does say that she opened door a second time when she heard crying from x room.

(This is where I have big issue. she’s on the same floor as her. It’s her friend. She’s crying. Wouldn’t you flip a light on and check on your friend. Sorority sisters are very protective and known for looking out for one another.

Plus it’s now the second time she has opened her door after foods been dropped off and x is up watching tik tok moving around.

now crying and she hears a male state I will help you. But she closes door again?

Report then says she opened a third time when crying. It says she opened door both second and third time to the crying.

This time she saw man walking toward her, go past her and toward sliding doors. She shut and locked her door.

starting with that info, if presuming he came in sliding glass door, he would have passed Dylan’s room door to the stairs to go up then again coming down and go up stair in dark through living room and to x room then back sgain down stair and toward patio.

D doesn’t say if he went out or not and it never states if she ever opened door again.

Report said x door was open so any friends or roommate would have seen x. If dog was locked in upstairs room all of those hours wouldn’t it have been crying or barking and why wouldn’t anyone have gone and let the dog out to pee or anything.

Report doesn’t say if sliding door was open.

D room has missing screen on back of house. And at 830 neighbors report front door was wide open.

So

If dd was there around 4, did they leave food on doorstep or ring bell? Did x get the food? Did it come from front door or sliding door? What time was food order put in? Did she eat the food? Did dd person see anything or any lights etc?

If bk went in kitchen and went upstairs first prior to or same time as dd and if x went down to get it, they wouldn’t even pass each other.

Next I don’t know about you guys but how many people wake up out of sleep and look at time, or even have a clock?

But let’s look at timeline

Around 4 am door dash

4am d hears dog and k upstairs

4:12 x is on tik tok

4:17 security audio picks up dog barking whimpering or talking and a loud thud

Now think about that. Security camera is outside of the house 50ft away from x wall and picks up that noise.

But d never says she hears any loud thud which if it was x falling to the floor would be loud in that house.

Then at 4:7 he walks out past d and toward sliding door and gets to car and is seen driving at 4:20.

Bk phone pinged in the area around 9.

Neighbors saw front door wide open at 830 am

Radio tower pinged car leaving bk house at 9 and in area of house 9:12 to 9:31.

So let’s say bk just skipped the most accessible room do’s several times and went upstairs.

Killed the two girls with one being awake to say someone’s hear (I’m guessing d would know her roommates voice)

Went downstairs to x room. I would think logically bk would have to kill e first because he was in bed and the thud was x falling on floor.

Maybe she wasn’t in the room when bk went down there.

Important- where was x phone found?

Where was car hidden?

if there was a loud thud on hardwood floor bottom floor would hear also.

Something being left out….

final thought either bk was upstairs and k was talking to him. So he was maybe let in house and knew each other or k was talking to m. Then both would have been awake.

Was blood on sheath?

How did footprint get in front of d door but nowhere else. You would leave a print right after stepping on something not that far away!

Was sliding door shut or open?

Do they leave all doors unlocked.

Lastly maybe someone else was driving around in his car and he was there a lot longer!

I believe that, since the gag order came from an Idaho court, there’s no penalty for ignoring it, if you live and work in Pennsylvania.

intentional WS TOS!
THANK YOU from the folks behind the screen…..
This is what I remember reading too.
Page 4 of the affidavit says according to the DoorDash driver, Xana received the food. Relevant line: "Kernodle, who received a DoorDash order at the residence at approximately 4:00 a.m.(law enforcement identified the DoorDash delivery driver who reported this information)."

I don't think BK "knew" any of the victims. I feel like he just wanted to murder. I believe he was "hunting" for target since he got there in August. He could have followed and stalked a few potential targets before, after watching, decided on them. I think this was no more then a thrill kill. I commend LE for their quick work in locating him because I have no doubt he would have done it again. MOO

Well, considering that he was driving past several cell towers right at that moment (just outside of Pullman) I seriously doubt it. And then, in the area that has the most dense concentration of cell towers (near the U of ID), he's invisible to them all of a sudden? Nope, he turned it off. Or put it in airplane mode. As stated in the PCA.

Then, he drives past a whole boatload of other cell towers (like on both sides of the road) and is invisible to them until near the junction south of Moscow.

I'd say no way.

IMO.

Thank you!

When they search his car will they also be looking for evidence of another person being in it that isn't his father or BK? Pre empting the "I drove but I didn't do it" reasonable doubt

  • #591
I've never done DoorDash but I assume they have to have records of times and distances of their drivers. I'll bet that driver had some good info to narrow down the killer's time frame.
Yes, and they interviewed the delivery driver.

But they didn’t need that. Neighborhood cameras saw the white Elantra arriving and parking at 4:04 and then speeding away 16 minutes later.

Mr. criminologist BK, who studied cloud forensics?, Seemed to forget about neighborhood cameras. They tracked his white ELANTRA all over Pullman, moscow, his circuitous route to evade police, his circling King Road neighborhood many times, on and on and on.

He must’ve messed his pants when they released info looking for a white ELANTRA.

He may very well have left a digital trail we'll find out. Or he could have used a computer at school or the library using someone else's account.
Not blaming any of the girls at all. I’m just saying with all of the illogical parts, likely police holding back a lot of details for reasons only they know.

Won’t know til trial

The article said they watched him throw it into the neighbor's bins and then went right behind him and retrieved the bags.
Yeah, I thought it was a bit ambiguous as to which bins they emptied bc (from what I recall) it said “the family” and I took that to mean BK’s own family. Happy they have it!

-

So D was sleeping on the SECOND floor (???) and saw the masked intruder leave the home but did not call 911... I get she was definitely in shock but... I cannot make sense of it

I believe the mask was likely a Covid mask, leading D to think perhaps just a regular visitor or perhaps the DD had been invited in for some reason. D probably listened for a while and heard nothing more, fell asleep, as people do at 4 am.

How do we know this was BK? I feel more than it might have been Ethan? Moo.

SG makes it sound as though both girls had seen the bodies. It was always my understanding that it was the first officer on scene that made the discoveries.

No matter how you look at it, those poor girls are going to be traumatized for life. PTSD, at its finest . I hope they are able to find a way to block this memory and move forward with their lives.
It really shows how LE has been protecting the roommates. I was one of those that believed the unconscious person was a roommate. I had read elsewhere from a neighbor that it was a roommate and it was a passerby who intervened with the phone- moo for no link, though I had no idea if true or not. Sad to find they had that additional visual experience.

That is a very important question with no answer. It is puzzling. But again, the absence of any action taken by roommate in immediate moment(s) following alleged sighting of BK is even stranger still. Perhaps it is absent because it is not relevant to the nature of the probable cause warrant. LE may also be withholding any action that she did take (even if no action) in relation to the investigation still being active.

That’s the best I got…

The bag was open on the table in the kitchen which leads me to speculate that if the food was delivered to the front doorstep, it may have been cold and needed to be heated in the microwave before taking it to the bedroom or maybe the food item(s) needed to be split by something more than just fingers or maybe there wasn't enough napkins in the bag thereby leaving the empty bag in the kitchen. If none of that was in play, why not take the bag of food straight to the bedroom from the front doorstep.

The above is moo and assuming the bag was empty.
She’s probably like me, she likes to be the last one awake so she can use the kitchen and common areas in peace, moo. Her boyfriend was asleep in her bedroom. The other roommate asleep in the other bedroom, and she can use the kitchen, living room, and bathroom to herself. Until she says, there’s someone here. So terrible.

From the PCA:
"At approximately 12:46 p.m., the 8458 Phone then utilized cellular data in the area of the Albertson's grocery store at 400 Bridge Street in Clarkston, Washington. Surveillance footage obtained from the Albertson's showed
Kohberger exit the white Elantra, consistent with Suspect Vehicle 1, at approximately 12:49 p.m. Interior surveillance cameras showed Kohberger walk through the store, purchase unknown items at the checkout and leave at approximately 1:04 p.m."

What was he buying? Was he wearing gloves?
Did he pay cash or card?
what did he buy, I wonder?
Is it a hardware store or grocery?
