In every picture I see of him his eyes are blank. So is his soul. We’re his eyes always like that? No childhood photos. ?

How do we know he overcame it?
Good question.
We don't.
Some people make dreadful choices when under the influence.
We don't know if BK was clear headed or not when he chose to end four lives.

Not really a 'lynch mob mentality' which is ridiculous to think about -- when he's been arrested and charged with quadruple homicide !
Of course people are going to look at his past actions under a microscope to see what warning signs may have been missed ?
It looks like LE aren't considering any other suspects or persons of interest, so BK did this seemingly all by his lonesome.
Imo.

That is only a thought exercise IMO, in the face of the forensic and phone evidence (no doubt there is more), and BK needs to account for his presence at the scene if the police can establish it in fact (which IMO, based on the PCA and other evidence, they could assert this at court and in interview with BK).

However, it may be possible for BK, or any defendent in a criminal case, to be found not guilty on the basis of not forming the intention to do murder, despite still committing a murder, since the law broadly requires the action AND intention. This would be the only way I believe that BK could avoid the offence.

If his defence were to argue "it wasn't him, he wasn't there at the time of the murders" or similar, I would consider that potentially an act of professional negligence on the part of his legal team, as it does not provide him with the best defence he could have against the death penalty, IMProfessionalO. It is a fanciful argument IMO, and bares no attempt to understand and refute the prosecution's case.

Edit for grammar.
Nothing can save him from 1st degree murder, as if the first murder was a murder during a rape attempt it is a murder committed during a felony, 2nd, 3rd and 4th murders are clearly intentional.

MOO if his intent was murder during the stalking the phone would not have been on. He was stalking and stewing, but MOO he had not formulated a plan. He was just obsessed.
MOO for some reason he crossed over into a killer on 11/12/22, When he made the shift, with so much stalking experience and forensics he falsely thought he could cover his bases and should go end the life of the roommate he was stalking.
So he did.
He successfully nearly left no DNA. Obviously he failed to consider his car would have been picked up by random cameras going to and leaving the CS. And that is the clue that unraveled his identity and cell history.
Not just going to and leaving, he drove past the house back and forth several times before the attack. Did he not see the camera on the neighbor's porch?

His eyes seem off to me also. Even in older photos. Same as James Holmes and Adam Lanza

It's definitely him.

They start at age 14 in 2009 though so I don't think he was on heroin then.

He was on heroin in 2013 according to a friend.
I think that's classic self medicating.

I think he was disturbed from a young age, then medication and heroin made it worse. Heroin addiction can destroy your ability to enjoy life even when your clean.

I think the social isolation of moving to WA pushed him over the edge. Living alone, PHD programs can be isolating as you're not part of a class, he's already poor socially.

He probably had some type of social network in PA with family, sisters, friends, neighbours etc. That was his last tendril to reality.

Lots of time alone with crazy thoughts and not talking to anyone.

James Holmes is very similar I think, although he'd been in Colorado for a year I think but a break up in the previous January might've been a catalyst.

I think he saw the victims somewhere laughing, enjoying life, being happy. Followed them home and an obsession began. Maybe he saw them in a group somewhere like a bar, coffee shop or restaurant. It's easy enough to follow people home if they're not looking out for it.

He may have simply being driving around Moscow and they walked passed his car.

According to experts this is an ego driven crime so maybe rejection by Pullman PD was catalyst also. Ego driven murders are to with resentment, envy, rage.

I based the timeline on an interview Lawrence Jones did with an acquaintance of Bryan that knew him in high school and they went together to buy heroin.

Not sure, but I’m willing to bet that somehow his defense team is going to make sure that those eyebrows stay nice and trimmed and very “non-bushy” all throughout trial…
Not sure it would matter tbh; the jury will see images of before his arrest (body cam from police stop in Indiana; license; school ID etc.) and at the time of his arrest.

Has there been any footage of him getting in/out of the car at the crime scene?

Doesn’t seem he did, or he was too focused to care and vaguely thought he would pick up pieces later.
Which he is trying to do now with his Not Guilty plea.

So we really don’t know if he targeted the house for one of the victims or the house itself (easy to get into from sliding door, lots of coming/goings, parties). I go back and forth depending on what I read.

But, if he just wanted to kill and/or rape someone, why would he go into a house with 6 occupants? Wouldn’t it be easier to find a young woman who lived by herself or with a roommate in an apartment? Going into a house with 6 roommates is just insane.
That he took such a monumental risk is even more indicative of him having had an obsession with someone in that house, imo.

I actually think he wanted to be away from his close family so he could indulge in his sick stalking fantasy and bring them to life. That way he wouldn't have to worry about them finding out.

When did he enter a plea?

How could he have known about the sheath?

The guy on FB never says anything not already known or inferable. It was public very early that LE were looking for a Ka-Bar type of knife.

Still I think it's very plausible that BK was posting as Pappa Rodger.

One of the FB posts says, “Why did the killer choose that house over all the others in the area?”

One of BK's Reddit survey questions said, “Why did you choose that victim or target over others?”

PR was very insistent about some other theories he had, besides the sheath, it'll be interesting to see if they also pan out.

If that was him, it would help fill in what his motive was, which may be that he thinks murder is fun, as is watching and interacting with the public reaction to it.

What could happen in court that would make a jury believe that he did not intend to commit a murder, while committing four murders?

His attorney can’t testify for him. (They try, but I’d never believe it. They aren’t under oath.) I don’t think that his attorney would dare put him on the stand, to make this sort of a claim.

What possible explanation could there be? He carried along a massive knife, but he didn’t intend to use it to commit any sort of felony? He murdered the first person, then the second. He went up or down a fight of stairs and murdered the third, and the fourth, all the while not intending to kill any of them?

He turned off his phone as he approached the area, turned it back on as he left. But that doesn’t show any planning of a crime?

He was only there to rape, or steal (theoretical) drugs. Looks to me like first degree murder. Check section (d)

What argument could there be?

MOO
I am no expert on Idaho law, just English law, but hopefully his lawyers are. I was simply stating in principle that the law generally requires the action of killing AND the intention to kill, in order to be found guilty of murder in a court of law. I was not saying that it would be impossible or unlikely for him to form the intention to kill.

Many of the factors you state seem also to go towards his premediation or planning. In England these factors form part of the sentencing and the aggravation of a criminal offence (e.g. carrying an offensive weapon, etc). Again, I am not an expert on Idaho law to know how these aggravating factors subsist in a US criminal prosecution.

Absent a restraining order though it is not a crime to follow someone, stalk someone etc.
Actually it is once the pattern is proven if the conduct harasses or intimidates a victim who does not give consent.

We'll, if we're "guessing", then it might have been a full on ski mask covering every single part of his face except his eyes and eye brows. Also, he may have had a hood that covered the top of his head and the rest of the ski mask. My point is we can't assume it ONLY covered his nose and mouth, because that hasn't been stated by a verified source. People read one post that says "only his nose and mouth", and then that suddenly becomes facts of the case.

Words, and the CORRECT words, matter.
Bottom line- she was not able to ID BK

And he seemed to find the furthest place from home - on the other side of the country.

I would imagine there is a psychological assessment of him that needs to be made directed by a court, in order to confirm that he had the requisite intention to kill at the relevant time(s).

I was not saying that he could not be found guilty nor have the intention, but only describing that a defendant must have committed the action of killing and form the intention to kill, to be found guilty in a court of law, is all.

<modsnip - quoted post was removed for discussing something with no source link to verify accuracy>

Sounds like he never was on campus at all as a grad student before WSU. Iirc he did that masters' online during the covid crisis. Possibly he never met a fellow student since undergrad, which also may have been principally online at DeSales (?). That lady prof who said he was brilliant, never met him in person, she admitted. His questionnaire on Reddit was sophomoric, in my opinion, from a 25-26 year old grad student.

So the lady prof who never really met him recommended him to grad school, she said.

He gets there, has never interacted with students in the role of a TA. The students revolt because of what they perceive as unfair grading and uncalled-for derogatory notes he left on their work.

After the actual course professor makes BK face an angry class peppering him with criticism, he throws a snit fit and gives everyone 100's. Real adult behavior from the Ph.D student.

So what I'm getting at is that he may have received little to no esteem given his normally-respected new position. Probably he was not respected in the department either (imo). He may have interacted with practically no students at all since high school.

Add in a few rejections, possibly accompanied by derision from the girls' nearby guy friends...so begins the pressure cooker.

I haven't gone through all of these posts, but several thoughts involving the capture of BK re: this heinous crime. I suspect this has not been brought up before - or at least not on this site.

-The investigation & capture of BK occurred only because the authorities were putting a lot of $, resources, and time/effort into this investigation. Conversely, there are a plethora of other crimes that have occurred relatively recently & in the past - that are still completely unsolved. And, many of these could probably have been solved (or still be solved) if the authorities in these cases had put as much time, money, and effort into them as they did into this BK case - from Day 1. I don't need to give examples, because anyone that follows true crime/missing persons cases knows exactly what I'm talking about.

-Going along with this, it's extremely obvious that the #1 reason this case got so much attention was because of the HUGE international media & online coverage. I.e., if this case had never gotten anything other than local coverage (local meaning just in & around the Moscow, ID area) & if only the local authorities were conducting the investigation (and additional organizations hadn't been assisting, etc.) - I suspect it would still be unsolved, and may have never been solved.

- it's interesting that when BK & his father were driving cross-country, LE pulled them over twice for speeding. And, they just got a warning each time. Many people that get pulled over get a ticket the first time. Wow. <modsnip>
