I don't think he targeted any particular victim. I think the HOUSE was the target, a place where 5-6 beautiful, smart, successful young women were living (and where one of their boyfriends was visiting, which BK might not have known.) I think he went there to do mass murder and killed the victims he found. He might not have know where all the bedrooms were or he might have been startled by encountering Ethan and left without killing the other housemates. It's possible that one of the women might have been most attractive to him, but if a single person was targeted, it would be moronic to do a home invasion slaughter of 3 more people, in a situation where he might be seen or overpowered.
If he targeted the house I believe he would have done his research to determine the layout of the house prior.... And he would have known about every bedroom on every floor. He just might not have known if they were occupied, etc. I think he targeted at least one of the girls.

LE doesn't have to release all information at this point in time. They only released the part that was pertinent.
You are absolutely right.

What person in his right mind would dare to prosecute S.G. for speaking out on behalf of his murdered daughter? He/ she would immediately become the worst villain in Idaho, in the court of public opinion.
The gag order is for attorneys and others directly related to the case, like investigators, including ATTORNEYS for victims' families. The text is clear on that point. It refers to attorneys for the families, not the families themselves. The families can speak out, just as we can or any other citizen. However, that is not to say that giving media interviews about the accused or the case itself is helpful to the cause of justice. Now that the is a suspect in jail, pending trial, there is no longer a risk of the case going cold or (if we think BK did the crime) the killer striking again. The gag order is NOT for S.G. or any parent.

I can't think of a case where people who are not on the investigative team added to the understanding of the case itself. As someone who watched whole weeks of the OJ trial while I was home writing a book, I know for sure that lawyers playing to the media can lose cases.

Parents and other family members can help us understand the impact of violent crime on families, the meaning of their loved ones' lives, the difficulty of going to trial, the pain of loss, and the broader impact on whole communities. They can keep us in touch with the cost of murder and help us see what we all have lost. These are all worthy ways for victims' families to have a voice. If S.G.'s attorney is leaking information or causing concerns about a fair trial, that should have been stopped before there was a gag order. Same with prosecutors, defense attorneys and investigators. I know I'm in the minority because I worry about the families pressuring the very people trying to bring about justice.

The Pike County massacre trial had a gag order too, and it was frustrating to those in the public who wanted to know everything right now and couldn't wait for a complex investigation to be completed and presented at trial. But once the trial begins, most if not all of the information will be public record, covered by the media, and presented to anyone who can get into the courtroom. The Pike County prosecutors got a LWOP conviction on 8 felony murder counts and other lesser charges without having the accused's DNA or fingerprints at the scene. If reports are right, this case is a far better one for the prosecution.

None of us can say definitively what would or wouldn't affect trial until we have more information about the evidence, but there were things said that I, personally, don't think should have been -- such as KG's wounds being worse than the others, that LE had said only one student was the target, a big battle on the 2nd floor, KG and MM called J a bunch of times, etc.

I feel for the families and believe they should be able to speak out if they want to. I just hope they're getting appropriate guidance. The media has been exploiting them, IMO.

MOO
Agree.

Dec 14-15?? BK and father drive through Idaho, into Colorado, passing through Loma, Colorado and then eastward to PA.
Dec 15. BK and dad are stopped 2 times by different police "10 minutes apart" say some articles, in Indiana. No warnings, no tickets. Speeding and tailgating.
Dec 16?. Brian and Dad arrive in Albrightsville, PA.
Per the search warrant, the car was spotted by WSU officer on 11/25 (I snipped for comment so you may have stated this) and when he ran the plate, it came back to BK with Washington tag, showing it was registered with WA on 11/18.

In response to snipped section quoted, a plate reader caught the car in Loma, CO on 12/13, then the 2 highway patrol pullovers in Hancock, IN on 12/15, and on 12/16 the car was caught on a surveillance video in Indiana with BK showing as the sole occupant (which I thought was odd and wondered if he was alone because perhaps dad was using facilities inside a store(?))

All of the above is found on page 12 in Exhibit A of the Search Warrant....

About the tightened gag order, you may remember previously that I have discussed that I work with the media.

The most important months to the media are "SWEEPS" months - which is the time that news programs and media outlets present their most sensational programming in order to increase ratings. Advertising rates are based on ratings, so the higher the ratings, the higher a media outlet can charge for advertising.

There are four "sweeps" months in a year - February, May, July and November. February and November are the most important months. So, with February sweeps coming up literally starting in days -- Feb. 2 through March 1 -- every news program, TV station and media outlet will be presenting "specials" on this crime because right now - it is the crime of the year. These programs and stories have to be researched, written and produced NOW and these reporters and producers have probably been contacting EVERYONE remotely involved with, or surrounding, this case, promising them anonymity for any tidbit of new information. There are media folks who will pay for information - the bigger the info, the more money they will pay. Hence, I suspect this led the judge to tighten the gag order.

And if information pays big bucks, anyone with the most sought after photos or video could earn hundreds of thousands of dollars, depending on how sensational the photos/videos are. Some of the most sought after photos/videos would be BCK in his jail cell and photos of the crime scene inside the house.

So, get prepared for an avalanche of stories and programs coming to your TV, newspaper, website, or social media platforms starting Feb. 2nd.

Exactly. The preliminary hearing always has way more evidence than what is in the AA, which is merely enough for the judge to determine there is probable cause for arrest.

The next step is determining if there is probable cause to go to trial, and that hearing will include additional evidence that has yet to be processed (DNA from the car, phone download data, social media subpoenas, etc).

They left things out, and we will learn more.

Someone could have a Zillow-level understanding of the layout and been disoriented sneaking around in the dark with the intent to do murder, probably for the first time. I can't walk in my own house in the dark without bumping into stuff. BK apparently had lots of thoughts about how to do this crime and most of them led straight to his arrest. So I'm going with he might be big on research and theory but very low on understanding what would happen when he walked into the house.

Here is my opinion, two cents, or thankfulness :

Concerning the trash in PA, I’m glad it was thrown in ANY container scheduled for pickup…,

Why you ask? Because I live in PA and I know for a fact that many people, especially in rural areas don’t even use trash pick up services. They use burn pits or burn barrels!

I would only hope that if that were the case in this situation because he was being watched they would have gathered the trash before it all went up in smoke…literally!

I know LE would still have gotten the DNA, they just would have gotten it another way such as following around and getting a cup or something similar that was discarded.

All through undergrad my bf and I worked at non-chain restaurants. It's quite possible that there is legitimate disagreement about whether a former customer looked like this or that. We definitely had times where a server or two thought table 6 was a famous person, with half the staff saying things like, 'no, too tall' or 'too thin' etc.

I'm going to assume everyone concerned could be speaking in good faith regarding whether bk had visited before. It's a bit subjective unless you are consulting the name on their credit card as a solitary diner.

What "vital" information does the public have to have before trial? I don't get it.
I'm as nosy as the next person, but I can't think of a single thing the public "needs" to know that would involve shooting down that gag order. The Press hasn't been told they can't do their jobs. Certain people have just been told not to talk to them.

"The defense is going to have a field day with ping information as well as video surveillance because there's going to be disparities [in] time frames ... both the defense and the prosecution are going to have experts in this area," Coffindaffer said. "It's gonna come down to a battle of the experts on this point and the jury is gonna have to make a decision whether they believe the prosecution's point of view or the defense's point of view."

If there were 600000 cars on the road. And 10 Elantra's were amongst them. Then the difference might be a little harder to stomach.

But combine this with his other visits to Moscow, his car leaving the UW campus, his phone being turned off, his DNA at the crime scene, his car returning to the UW campus and any doubt in the traffic camera and cell data is squashed.

A reasonable person is not going to think that all of those things I just stated happened by chance.

Jurors don't acquit on technicalities like this. ESPECIALLY when you have corroborating evidence.

The recent reply by management implies that the former employee was lying about BK visits to the restaurant.

Not sure what to think of this but I find it concerning as it throws doubt toward cell tower data:

The affidavit states that on November 13, the day of the killings, Kohberger's cellphone number pinged a cell tower near his apartment at 1630 Northeast Valley Road at 2:42 a.m. At 2:44 a.m., Kohberger was seen on surveillance footage from Washington State University "traveling north on southeast Nevada Street at northeast Stadium Way."

However, Newsweek drove from Kohberger's residence to the street listed in the affidavit, and the trip took just over seven minutes. Other possible routes shown on Google Maps have estimated times of seven to eight minutes.
I have a friend who worked for AT&T and she conveyed to me that if one cell tower is down, or overloaded, other towers further out will spread its connectivity to help compensate (which could explain the range in coverage area, MOO). This happens for several different reasons, and is common during bad weather. When phone pings are picked up, they are incredibly accurate to tiny areas.

What this means is that BK's phone may have been serviced by 1 tower but tried pinging off another tower first. If that's the case, my friend did mention that there would be an alert documenting that the original tower was down, so if it comes down to a battle between experts, then that would or should be part of it. JMO.

MOO - The no blood trail in the post above this also perplexes me.

Especially given DM saw him walk out the house through the sliding glass door, presumably right after the attacks on 4 people!… Had he wiped his feet down before leaving the last victims room?

It just doesn’t make sense to me…. Unless they did have somewhat of a blood trail and just have yet to release that information to the public?
Ok this is really nitpicky, but DM didn’t see BK walk out of the house. She saw him walk in the direction where the sliding glass door is in the kitchen, according to affidavit.

The no blood trail outside is perplexing to me. Especially with the revelation that they have a latent print.
*snipped for focus*

A latent print does not mean it was a bloody print. A latent print means it was one not seen by the naked eye.

Additionally, I don't recall seeing (though I may have missed it) that they tested it with Luminol and is showing any traces of blood.

Stab Wounds. Sharp Force Injuries. More?
Thank you for you thoroughly detailed reply. As I understood completely, the difference between a stab and sharp force cut, I'm now curious to know your opinion on whether you think E was standing up or laying down when attacked.
I would think that, if he was in the laying down position, his wounds would be more of a stab. I can picture him being in the standing up position and BK swiping to cut him and E jumping or hunching back, thus being sliced when contact was made. IDK, JMO.
@XtremeScorpio
ATM I don't have a fixed opinion about Ethan's position at time of attack.
But not disagreeing w your thoughts above. Entirely possible, makes sense.
