The transferring of evidence from the crime scene technicians to BK's residence after so many days, IMO, is near impossible. Additionally, we don't know the forensic techs who processed the crime scene were the same ones processed the WSU residence.
I'm sure forensics professionals change their clothes and shower between locations.

Agree.

Yet, in this case he seemed to (allegedly) "live and breathe" crime, no?

I mean - he studied criminology, loved talking about "criminal minds" (according to his friends), in free time it seems he (allegedly) engaged in stalking.

And as soon as he found himself far away from family home - this tragedy happened - and HE is the only suspect/defendant.

So, if this is not a kind of obsession, then what is?

JMO

I have been thinking about human curiosity in murder and I just can't shake the sense that even my own curiosity is questionable. It is important to me to take breaks from dark information, focus on positivity, and not get completely sucked into the plot of events.

I can only imagine if you have a very unhealthy (almost addiction-like behavior) towards this type of material, soon it becomes so normalize you never question it again and that can take over.

Fortunately, I can only imagine. JMHO

It is ever not the responsibility of the defense attorney to take the place of a jury; her job will be to zealously defend him just as if he were innocent.
Her job: “(b) Defense counsel have the difficult task of serving both as officers of the court and as loyal and zealous advocates for their clients. The primary duties that defense counsel owe to their clients, to the administration of justice, and as officers of the court, are to serve as their clients’ counselor and advocate with courage and devotion; to ensure that constitutional and other legal rights of their clients are protected; and to render effective, high-quality legal representation with integrity.”

I feel like there was a lot of thought and research put into choosing the right weapon for this horrible crime.
Search "Kbar knife" on Walmart's website. There are many of every kind.

LE did release a statement early on that there was no evidence on the dog.
Yes, they did. But Murphy was locked up for a number of hours and possibly licked himself clean if his reachable fur was contaminated, as in he walked through blood.

Would he not have left paw prints if he did so? And who locked him up?

IMO they checked Murphy out thoroughly and concluded he had not entered the crime scene. If he stepped in blood they would have found bloody paw prints.

Officers did not find any evidence on the dog and there was no indication the animal had entered the crime scene. Per MPD

This is exactly what we want for him. The last thing the family (or the public, for that matter) needs is for BCK to be inadequately represented by counsel, because that can be grounds for an appeal.

We have to remember that the killer was dressed all in black. If that killer was BK and he wore something purchased just for this crime, and ditched it during his early morning ride through the countryside, I doubt LE will find a much dog hair at his apartment. I would think it more likely to find some in his car but, if he's cleaned it obsessively for weeks, they might not find one even if Murphy was a shedder. We'll see eventually. If he's guilty, I pray he missed some.

The pillows and stuff with reddish stains found during the search grossed me out. It's certainly true that he might have had a nosebleed. He could even be a self-cutter due to stress, although I tend to think some of the eagle eyed folks would have seen that while looking for injuries from that night. It does seem odd that he might have worn coveralls for the crime, dumped them on his ride through the countryside, and still transferred enough blood into his apartment to make stains. Ugh. If they weren't insulated, and he wore them over clothes, it's certainly possible that enough blood soaked through to stain his belongings at home. Why on earth he would still have those stained things is beyond me, but criminals have certainly done dumber things. Moooooo
Good points. I think he (BK) took some injuries to his head during the killings when one or all four of the victims fought him, and if those are blood stains on the bedding in his apartment, they came from his wounds and so he wouldn't be too worried about leaving his own bloodstains.

When he was first arrested the photos of him I saw (and OP commented on) showed some residual deep bruising around his eyes, which I believe was from injuries he sustained when he got bashed full on in his face/forehead area with some force by one or more of the victims.

He could easily have had some ongoing trauma to deal with such as nosebleeds or damage to the septum or a mild concussion that are slow to heal that he was still recovering from when he was arrested.

As far as returning to classes after the murders and other students saying he seemed or looked normal (but was unusually quiet?), he could have covered up any obvious injuries/bruising with cosmetics, and kept to himself so no one would look too closely at his appearance.

Just my theory that I'm sticking to -- he did not get away with these four brutal murders physically unscathed.

I'm with you. My theory for why he did this is simple: his studies were almost over and he didn't have a clear idea of what he wanted to do with the rest of his life. He was obviously fascinated by crime (getting his Ph.D. in criminology) so maybe he just decided he'd commit murder and see what it felt like and if he could get away with it. He didn't necessarily want to get caught, but also didn't really mind if he did. After all, he could use his time in prison to write his murder memoirs and maybe even employee his "famous" prior professor to co-author his book.
His studies weren't almost over. This was the first semester in his Phd program. He still has a few years of study left.

I meant at the end of his studies in criminology. The Google machine says a Ph.D. in criminology should take 3-4 years. But I can see where you are coming from - he did have a ways to go, but he was closer to the finish line than the beginning if that makes sense.

Stains on pillows or mattress covers could involve various body fluids. Lots of people don't change pillows very often. They absorb body oils, saliva (which can contain blood from unhealthy gums, etc.), and other stuff. Pillows don't just stay at the head of the bed. We (here) don't know if BK bought that stuff new or (horrors) was using stuff left by others or brought old stuff from home. So the stains could be meaningless. Or not.

I totally agree. There are multiple substances that can cause reddish stains, I for one am reserving judgment. I did wonder though why the investigators took cuttings from the pillow, rather than just bring the whole pillow back to the lab. Seems odd to me.

I KNOW THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE
PURE WISHFUL THINKING ON MY PART:

I wish that a chunk of BK’s DNA was found in Murphy’s TEETH !
Lol

People buy goldendoodles specifically because they are low-shedding dogs.

MOO
Low shedding only refers to the RATE of shedding. Over prolonged periods of time hairs will ACCUMULATE inside a house. It may just take a longer period of time. I can *guarantee* that the house occupied by this dog had an abundance of dog hair in it at the time of the crime. MOO.
