My opinion, informed by info from the first few days of the murders is….

BF and DM both woke up to noises. BF dismissed them more quickly. After DM saw the murderer (BK) she went back to her room and texted all her roomates. Only BF responded.

and BF exchanged texts. Both are scared.

BF and DM went to sleep together, woke up in the same bed.

MOO
I'd love to see a cite on this.

Authorities have previously said that the 28-year-old Kohberger has no prior criminal record.
However, since Kohberger was a student at Northampton Community College in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania authorities took a deeper dive into records. He may have also attended classes at a satellite campus in Monroe County. Using a crime information center, authorities in Northampton County searched records of unsolved cases using Kohberger’s height, weight, method of operation and other characteristics that could have flagged him in an unsolved crime.
Houck said authorities did not find any evidence linking Kohberger to unsolved cases.
“In fact, nothing with respect to Kohberger has come about in our investigations of cold cases or unsolved cases to this point, but we always continue to investigate and pursue leads,” Houck said.
In neighboring Lehigh County, where Kohberger spent four years studying criminology on the campus of DeSales University, District Attorney Jim Martin asked the same questions.
After Kohberger’s arrest on Dec. 30, Martin said, “The first thing I did was ask the director of the RIC (Regional Intelligence and Investigation Center) to see if we had any contact with Mr. Kohberger.”
That database includes six million police reports and related data. It showed only one contact with Kohberger: a 911 call in which his car was locked behind a parked gate on a bike trail.
“And there was a response from him thanking the police and apologizing for the inconvenience,” Martin said.
Martin said the probe by his office has not found links to Kohberger and any unsolved crimes.
“We have no unsolved homicides that in any way meet the modus operandi of this event out in Idaho," Martin said.

Actually, they don't know for sure it was a Kabar knife based just on the sheath they found. Other poster(s) on here have indicated they bought a Kabar sheath for their knife, but their knife wasn't a Kabar. They liked the sheath and it fit their knife. I'm guessing that LE know what kind of knife was used based on the results of the autopsy that the medical examiner performed.
OK but the coroner said it's a similar knife so not sure why ppl would care if it's an actual KaBar or not. IMO

He wanted to be a Ranger, they specialize in what happened at 1122.
Except traditionally it is supposed to be the personnel of an enemy air field that are to be quietly dispatched in their sleep.
I'd like to learn more about that. Do you have a link?
TIA

Please provide the many inconsistencies with LINKS to all these misleading accounts and conflicting accounts LE was announcing to the public THAT YOU SAY MIGHT HURT THE CASE. I asked before, you have mentioned this several times with no links.

I am only finding one inconsistency, targeted attack or not targeted attack. LE even ADMITTING it was miscommunication which is not enough for the defense to run with. Miscommunication happens. Means nothing in terms of discrediting LE investigators.

THANK YOU

Authorities initially said the stabbings were an "isolated targeted attack," without offering specifics why and that there was "no imminent threat" to the public.

Moscow Police Chief James Fry backtracked that declaration on Nov. 16. "We cannot say there’s no threat to the community and as we have stated, please stay vigilant, report any suspicious activity and be aware of your surroundings at all times," Fry said.

More questions mounted last week after Latah County prosecutor Bill Thompson said during an interview with NewsNation on Tuesday that "investigators believe that whoever is responsible was specifically looking at this particular residence."

Chief James Fry speaks during a press conference about a quadruple homicide investigation involving four University of Idaho students at the Moscow Police Department on Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2022, in Moscow, Idaho.
The following day, Moscow police walked back Thompson's comments slightly, saying there had been a "miscommunication" with the lead prosecutor and that investigators were still seeking a motive.

"We have spoken with the Latah County Prosecutor's Office and identified this was a miscommunication," Moscow police said in a press release.

"Detectives do not currently know if the residence or any occupants were specifically targeted but continue to investigate," police said. "At this time, there is no change or new information in this case, and references otherwise would be inaccurate."
Eh, recording targeting: So someone in LE said "targeting" in the early days. The question would be what or whom was being targeted? Young women, in general? College kids, in general? One victim, in particular? The house itself, as a potential target because of its suitability for home invasion or because kids had parties there or because he had ways to surveil it? What does it even mean? And maybe even LE had some cognitive difficulty imagining a guy who just wanted to slaughter young people.

I know lots of people can't grasp why DM called friends before police, this case here in the UK with the headteacher killed by her husband, she rang her sister 7 minutes before she was shot. She never rang the police and she was obviously a grown adult. I think in a fear moment it's just impossible to act rationally that those who have the benefit of hindsight have

I’m still baffled by the language used in PCA , regarding DM statement:
“DM stated she originally she went to sleep in her bedroom on the southeast side of the second floor ……”. So where did she end up later on ? southeast side of the first floor ? “ Originally” says to me she moved to another location at some point .
The house is constructed so that there's no southeast side of the first floor. The first floor is on the north side of the house or the bedrooms are on either the east or west side. In this case, DM was on the SE side of the second floor but her original location (before she moved to a more spacious room) was the west side of the first floor with BF on the east side.
Ladies, Just an FYI. If you live alone and fear someone coming into your bedroom while you sleep: 1) get a sturdier lock installed, 2) push a dresser in front of the door and 3) have an escape plan through a window.
Taser + some sort of spray + aluminum baseball bat. Just in case the window looks like an entrance to the intruder. IMO

Because you stated it as a fact. I'm not aware of where you got that information. JMO

Everyone should have a home saftey plan that includes fire escapes and intruders. I would counsel any parent, who's children are moving into their first home away from home to walk through with them and help them ensure that their place is safe and secure.

It doesn't take much to block a slider, check security bars on basement windows can be removed and higher level rooms may benefit from a simple rope ladder and locks on bedroom doors can be beneficial.
Obviously keeping intruders out is better than a face-to-face battle, but assume the killer gets in, somehow. I know Ethan loved golf and have often wondered whether the end result would have been different if he had a driver and a 9 iron, one for him and one for Xana. I'm 72, and I use a Shaolin fighting cane that a has a brain basher on the handle similar to this picture. I was working for an intermediary education agency that sent me to meetings across the state, and carrying a gun on state property is a good way to get fired and arrested. But I had an encounter with a gang one night in an empty parking ramp, so I decided to have something legal that could go anywhere. After retirement I started carrying a LadySmith .357 and just recently bought a Maku 9 mm with optics. I now imagine getting caught somewhere with an active shooter, and hitting a target with a handgun looks far easier than it is, thus the optics. Get a sentinel dog. Or a guard dog. Or one of each. Keep golf clubs or an aluminum bat near the door. Send your kids to martial arts class. This saved my daughter's life, but I posted it once before and had it deleted due to being off topic, never mind that suggestions along this line (from me or anyone) might save a life. Maybe there should be a place for self-defense discussion. IMO Maddie and Kaylee had no chance unless Murphy had been a 100 lb. guard dog trained to attack, but together Ethan and Xana could've taken this guy out with proper equipment. Xana would've been formidable with a 9 iron and deadly with a Maku. snipped for focus

I agree with your post until we get to this part. Why would KG and MM choose MM's single bed when they could share (from crime scene photos) the big bed in KG's room? Plus DM thought she heard KG, directly above her, playing with her dog. I think the event began with everyone in their own beds and somehow ended with KG falling in MM's bed. <moo>

I don't believe the PCA speaks to the size of the bed but is referencing two victims in the only bed in that room. It seems to be carefully worded and if it were a single sized bed, I suspect size would not have been omitted. The fact that it indicates the two victims were in rather than on the bed suggests they were settled in for the night.

Additionally, there are numerous videos and pictures of the mattresses being removed from the house and placed in pickup trucks and while they fit reasonably well, which would probably be double sized matteresses, none were narrow enough to be single or twin sized. I'm not saying it's not possible but I am saying that the media would never have passed up showing more if there was more to show.

I think it was likely trauma that had her frozen in fear. That's not to say she isn't brave. I'm sure she is. But it sounds more like a fight-flight-freeze moment to me. MOO.

Also, we haven't heard that anyone screamed. They may have and it was left out of the PCA, but it hasn't been said by LE yet that there were any screams.
I don't recall either of the words screaming and running being used in reference to a human, unsure about dog. Words matter. Screaming v whimpering and walking v running give completely different visual pictures.

John Kelly speculates that BK may have left the Kabar sheath behind to make it look like someone in the military may have committed the murders.
When Cary Stayner sent the letter to LE letting them know the location of Julie Sund's body, he had some random kid lick the envelope at the post office. BK should have had some stranger, maybe unaware male kid, touch the sheath. Cary Shayner said he learned his tricks watching the Discovery Channel. IMO

The accused killer's cleaning of the room was so complete he even wiped his hairs off the bedsheet. An FBI agent asked him on the tape why he did that, and he replied: "I watch the Discovery Channel."

Thanks. I was wondering about Rangers attacking sleeping enemies/
Well, here is the overview.
Ambushes at night deep in enemy territory.

Thanks for going to all that trouble! I have the worst imagination so this helped me picture what you were saying.
This house is confusing due to three floors that do not sit on top of each other and that most photos are taken from the north side of the house which always looks like the south to me. But Band Field sits to the north, and I always have to think twice.
