These guys think they are so smart but they never do the only thing that helps: ditch the car in a small-town airport parking lot and leave the country.

They read all these big-brain PhD books but don't remember the only advice that matters in a life of crime: don't let yourself get attached to anything you aren't willing to leave in 30 seconds flat when you feel the heat around the corner.
I think if LE had been transparent about their suspicions, he may well have done. But the six week delay with seemingly little progress in terms of the information released to the public might have made him feel safe - maybe even untouchable. It would explain why he felt comfortable keeping the Elantra.

? What if for whatever reason Bryan did NOT want to go back home so dad flew out to make him come home?
All speculation on my part

I've been looking and can find nothing about her employment. However, I know there was at least one article about it and IIRC, it was a coffee shop.

It certainly wasn't the Mad Greek because the Mad Greek put up a memorial message about the two employees they lost (Xana and Maddie).

I'm not sure Kaylee was still working in Moscow in this, her last semester. No mention of that - the article I'm remembering mentioned her pre-Fall 2022 work. Still looking.
A great source is the Media Only thread.

Kaylee was graduating in December and according to her family, had already begun moving home and returned for the weekend to Moscow to show off her new vehicle to her friends.

In one of the initial interviews by her parents and sister, they disclosed that KG had a paid internship that turned into a job offer and KG was relocating to Texas in Feb-- but not before a solo trip to Europe in January 2023. MOO

Maybe he never planned on going back? Because that does seem very odd.
It’s not uncommon for first year Ph.D. students to decide that grad school is not for them; however, if that were the case, then BK would likely have packed his stuff into the car for a permanent trip home. And we know from watching LE take stuff out of his apartment that he didn’t do so.

So, BK’s father went to Idaho to drive back to Pennsylvania with him before Christmas. Leads me to believe there is no visible blood in the car. I honestly think this guy wore protective clothing that he shed outside the home after the murders.

Strictly speculation here...

Since the Elantra is in his parents name, and they allegedly matched his DNA thru one of the genealogy family tree platforms, the fathers name comes back to a white Elantra, things would really start falling into place

If this Criminology PhD failed to account for the likelihood of getting blood on the seats of his car....I'd be shocked.

I still think that he knew the police would have to use some sort of filtering to be able to examine all of 22,000 Elantra's. Quickly eliminating those that are unlikely to fit the profile to make the list more maneagable. Figured that his profile (PhD candidate in criminology) would get him past any closer scrutiny. And got his car out of town so it wouldn't end up in a tip from the neighbor and draw LE attention.
With all due respect to you, I tend to disagree in regards of stained car. He certainly did not account to leave his DNA behind, at the crime scene, but somehow managed to do exactly that.

He certainly did not account his car to be spotted near the crime scene and linked to the crime, but it was.

LaBar called Kohberger “very intelligent.”

A Moscow police officer stands guard in his vehicle, Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2022, at the home where four University of Idaho students were found dead on Nov. 13, 2022 in Moscow, Idaho. The university will be holding a system-wide vigil on Wednesday evening, Nov. 30, 2022, in memory of the students, as investigators continue to look for a suspect and motive in the killings. (AP Photo/Ted S. Warren)

What we know about the suspect arrested in connection with the Idaho college student killings

The attorney said he spoke with Kohberger’s family Friday night for 15 to 20 minutes.

“They’re also very shocked,” he said. “Out of character for Bryan… The FBI, local police, Idaho State Troopers were at their house at approximately 3 a. m. yesterday knocking on the door and announcing themselves to enter, out of real shock and awe to them.”

I find the attorney's verbiage, as quoted in the CNN article, interesting.

"awe"??

Per the online Oxford Dictionary:
awe
/ô/
noun
  1. a feeling of reverential respect mixed with fear or wonder.
"they gazed in awe at the small mountain of diamonds"

awe definition - Google Search

Not quite the term I would have used.

JMVHO.

It may just be that the guy had no good options about what to do with the Elantra. JMO.

Maybe LE asked the father to make the trip, hoping BK would confess on the drive- will be interesting to learn when Dad bought the airplane ticket out to Pullman WA-MOO...
Good point! I’m thinking if LE had a partial tag and a Penn plate they would have innocently called the 60ish year old parents early on to see if the car had been sold, who was driving it,etc. that would have led them straight to Bryan while simultaneously tipping off Mom and Dad. Maybe Dad flew out there to gauge the situation and determine for himself if this was really something his son was capable of. My parents would have done this sort of thing for me 18-22ish. Very strange in my opinion for dad to be flying cross country to drive his 28 year old son home. You buy a plane ticket….

Did I miss the source that said BK's father drove with him back to PA from WA?

This is just the type of crime that someone does alone.
Agree. And an individual described as awkward and a loner does not suddenly change his color and take on a partner to share his mass murder fantasy.

Thank you so much.
I had to skip a thread or so due to connectivity issues.
Would you mind bringing forward the travel dates link, please? Happy New Year!
I would be happy to do it if I knew how or I'd done the original one :) I mostly skipped yesterday's thread, too. I did reply with the other poster's quote that it was 12.14-12.17, and this has the 12.17 date in it.

The Real ID doesn't go into effect until May 2025.
+1 and real IDs were not even available in PA until at least spring 2019 (source) much later than many other states (I got a RealID in 2016). Unless his license happened to expire in the last few years, he would have to have gone out of his way to get one.

Classmates of the Idaho quadruple murder suspect have said he became more chatty in their criminology class after November's quadruple-slaying - but turned silent when the killings themselves were discussed.

Bryan Kohberger, 28, was taken into custody by the Pennsylvania State Police on Friday morning more than 2,000 miles from where four university students were killed in their beds on November 13.

Students who attended Washington State University with Kohberger were shocked to learn that the quiet man in their classroom was the prime suspect in the brutal slaying.

BK Norton, who was in the same criminal justice graduate program with Kohberger, said her classmate appeared more animated and talkative following the murders.

'He seemed more upbeat and willing to carry a conversation,' she told the New York Times.

But Norton noted all his enthusiasm would go away and he would become 'quiet and deadpan' when the class would discuss the Idaho murder case.

Interesting tidbit ^^^^ from the most recent DM article...

Totally agree. I think LE likely had his plates and as a result of that his name early in the investigation. But not much more than that. I 100% believe that they had this information before they released the pictures of the Elantra. The fact that LE resorted to a stock picture of the Elantra instead of one of the many likely shots they had bolsters this theory, as i bet the picture they had clearly showed the plate or had identifying features.

I think they released the picture of the Elantra for multiple reasons. 1) to solicit tips that might put him in the area or to help his neighbors, colleagues etc make the connection / recall odd behavior without LE having to say his name. 2) in hopes that he would come forward voluntarily to explain his alibi or insert himself into the investigation. i bet the profiler was a big believer in this one. and 3) to buy themselves some time as they likely suspected he was their guy but either the dna or familial dna hadn't come back yet. and they didn't have enough to pursue other warrants.
Your past few posts had me convinced (so good job making a case!) but now I'm not sure. If they knew he was in WA and they knew who he was and they had probable cause for the arrest, why wouldn't they arrest him in WA/ID and not have to deal with the long trip to PA and extradition? What if he intentionally crashed his car on the drive home killing himself? Seems like a risk to not pick up the person as soon as you believe you have probable cause for an arrest.

I am leaning towards maybe they identified him (so he was a POI) but they didn't get the DNA back until recently. They might not have thought just his car on video was enough for probable cause. Or worried that a good lawyer could argue it's not enough and then he's out and he knows he's on his radar.

I struggle a bit because if they knew who he was, they know how dangerous he is: he killed 4 random people in one of the most gruesome ways possible! What if he was going to do it again? Don't they have a bit of a duty to take him in as soon as possible? The MSM so far seems to only say he was trailed for a few days. I wonder if they had him under surveillance for a long time and felt he was "contained" enough to not have the risk of this known dangerous person be free to kill again.

I hope this PCA contains enough evidence that we can learn about the investigative steps too.

I'm a defense attorney, I know how to defend people. I'm just saying people are questioning the trip because he had to be back in WA in a few weeks and most students want their cars for school. If he was driving home because he graduated I don't think anyone would have questioned it as weird. But it seems out of character since most students would leave their car and fly home for a short break so their car was back at school for the full year ahead.
and I won't argue with you, and please don't take my response personally, because it wasn't meant that way. It was not an affront to your professional skill, and I did notice that you're an attorney. I also understand why people are questioning the trip. I wasn't supporting the guy, just adding a potential explanation. I think that's reasonable, imo jmo.

I was questioning where it was stated that BK's dad drove with him. Thanks, got it.
