Thank you both, what an embarrassing goof. I edited my post. I think I'm courtroom dyslexic...

You're awesome. I have my moments too. And while I'd like to blame them all on auto-correct, that would be untruthful.

Not sure why it's being said that he's only been charged on 2 of the murders. From the presser:

Chief - Thank you for coming today. Last night in conjunction with the Pennsylvania State Police, Federal Bureau of Investigation, detectives arrested 28 yr. old Bryan Christopher Kohberger in Albrightsville, Pennsylvania, on a warrant for murder of Ethan, Xana, Madison and Kaylee. I want to personally thank these agencies for their assistance in this case.

Not sure why it's being said that he's only been charged on 2 of the murders. From the presser:

what does this mean?

It's absolutely confirmation bias on my part and I know that but BK just looks really eerie to me. Seeing him live in video just feels a bit unsettling given what we know about this crime.

There have been as many reactions to BK's demeanor in the video as there are people on this website, I think!

IMO he looks casual, like it's just Tuesday, but I imagine he's adept at masking any turbulent emotions he may feel. He's had to do that for quite some time, apparently, leading up to the murders.

I was looking for the interview where a class mate allegedly said he didn't shave his beard (to cover scratches). No luck so far.
I found this quote:

“Now, a Washington State University student who had Kohberger as a TA in his criminology class is shedding light on his personality in class and how his behavior changed after the Idaho murders took place…

…The murders took place about a month before winter break, and that's when Stinchfield said his grading style took an abrupt turn…

…Stinchfield described his behavior after the murders as "pre-occupied" and said he appeared less "well-kept" and had grown out his facial hair.””

There is definitely a lot more to this that isn't obvious to me yet-

They knew to follow him but didn't have enough to arrest him. If they had had a familial tree that included him from GED and knew he owned a white Elantra he would have been under arrest.

If they didn't have the tree constructed yet then how did they know to devote the resources to follow him?
They (or with a GG in conjunction) have to build the tree up and out. Then add in public records, social media, etc. Then start building forward and see who was in the right place at the right time. They may have gotten a stranger's dna hit right off the bat, but had to work it. It's a technique. JMO

Does it mean that if he is acquitted on these two that he could be tried on the other two? Thus avoiding the double jeopardy rule?

Why are we thinking BK will be tried in a different county?

His defense attorney is from a neighboring county probably because no death penalty qualified PD in Latah County which is very small.

Also, I won't be surprised if the defense isn't already collecting evidence of why they should seek a change of venue. This is definitely going to start with whether or not the PCA is unsealed and released to the public prior to the preliminary hearing. MOO

Thank you for saying this. If someone saw a photo of me with a blank expression on my face, I shudder to think what they would say about me.
Right?!? I am a decent looking person, but I am not photogenic at all. I've had the same deer in the headlights look in pictures since I was a kid. LOL.

His family's lives will never be the same again now either. A truly sad sight.
Agreed! BK’s parents definitely look older! I’m guessing they were probably late 30’s/early 40’s when BK was born. I also realize he’s the baby of the family.

Would someone (v patient) be able to explain to me in words of few syllables the implications of what’s just happened?

And why he might have made that decision?
Because he was arrested in a different jurisdiction than where the crime was committed ( and charges filed ), he needs to be extradited back to that jurisdiction to be formally charged and prosecuted.

He had 2 choices., ask for an extradition hearing or waive his right to that hearing.
He waived his right to a hearing.

He really had no grounds to fight it, as the only grounds would be if he could prove he was not in the area when the crime was committed or he could claim there was not probable cause, etc.
IANAL

His Public Defender in PA says he waived extradition because he wants to return to Idaho and be exonerated, as he claims he is innocent.

Now he can be taken into Idaho authorities custody and transported back to Latah County.

I posted it once or twice this morning. I googled "Kohberger beard facial hair" or something like that and got two different witnesses and several articles, in which it was a minor detail - you have to read the whole articles. They are also in the media threads. If I stop being so obsessed with new facts in this case, I'll try and put an annotated news article bibliography up on my own website (last time I checked with Trish, she said it was okay if I did that - I'll check with her again of course).
Bibliography is an excellent idea. Happy to help if help is needed

Yeah, I really feel for them. That family must be hanging on by a thread too.

Yeah, I agree. He looked calm and composed today from what we were able to see.

But a county that is host to the university is likely to be much more liberal and thus less inclined to impose a death sentence.

<modsnip: politics>

Still, it was precisely this county who had this crime strike right at their very heart, at the university community itself and, perhaps that was part of this murderer's motivation or intent (we'll probably never know for sure).

I do wonder how the jurors of Latah County would handle this. I wonder how I myself would handle being on such a jury, as I am not pro-death penalty but I am also very sensitive to what victims' families want. I wonder how I'd deal with it. I don't think I'd ever be impanelled for a murder case, but if I were, I'd like to think I would put justice above all else.

I don't know exactly what justice looks like in this case, though.

MOO.

I've had mixed emotions, but I can't imagine what this family is going through. So much pain all around. JMO
Uggh. This sucks on so many levels for all the innocent victims in this case.

There was a celebration of life that afternoon for Maddie and Kaylee

It was Maddie and Kaylees Celebration of Life

If someone can help me find a link to this on Youtube - I keep finding the one that happened a month ago. Thanks! (trying to find the one that happened last week (end of December)

At least you’re aware of your own confirmation bias and admit it. That’s more than a lot can say lol MOO
