I, too, think this is pretty much what happened but the attacks on the girls upstairs could've taken place first which woke Ethan and then Xana. I don't know who I think was first, second, etc., but I do think the girls in the basement were either not known to be there or unnecessary collateral damage. I think the killer watched the house to ascertain that everyone went out on Saturday night and were likely to come home alcohol impaired although, given that four of the five are blondes who resemble each other a lot, maybe he missed the two living on the first floor. As for the dog, it was living in shared custody along with four others who were not its owners plus a lot of people coming in and out. Dogs are pack animals. I think the dog greeted the survivors when they arrived home and went to bed with one of them. K was calling JD to determine whether he had taken the dog or if it got out. It could've been let out of the bedroom anytime after the murders without the survivor noticing anything amiss.
We don't actually know why she was calling him.
She called people a lot.
'we share a dog after all' seems to be a jokey, 'c'mon wake up and answer the phone'
That is my understanding in any case.

Last Rush was August right before school started

Try an Irish wake sometime. It's like a party with food, drinks, jokes, tears, flowers and prayers. It confirms life.
My kids have instructions for that on my death. Celebrate my life, don't mourn my death. :)

Got it. MOO that perp let Murphy out and poor pup was found cold and confused outside the house sometime the next day, police turned him over to animal control and co-owner picked him up there later. Speculation.
I haven't been able to follow up on the news as much the last couple of days, but the articles I have read all indicate that Murphy was found inside the house. Has there been an update that I am unaware of?

My son and I often talk late at night. We're both nightowls, so sometimes one of us calls the other after the earlybirds have gone to bed.
Yes but the original time frame by police stated that X and E were at a frat party until 130am. Does someone leave a party/find quiet place/whatever to talk to their dad on a Saturday night? She also told her dad she was staying at home w Ethan (per dad statement)....Police changed the timeline days later that they were at the party from 8 to 9, instead of 8 to 130, without changing their "arrived home" time nor stating where they were from 9 to 130, a 4.5 hr span. Seems like if they were at home like X told her dad then police would have updated timeline accordingly. Lot of curious stuff.

Doesn’t That take A long time, genetic genealogy?
Not at all, I mean it does depend on the database to a certain extent, but it immediately narrows down the possibilities.

On the night of the incident, officers located a dog at the residence. The dog was unharmed and turned over to Animal Services and later released to a responsible party.

BBM. At the residence, not in the residence. They purposefully (IMO) left the exact location unclear.

Did LE confirm IGG is now being used on this case? They usually don't use IGG early on in an investigation.
No, I'm speaking in a general sense. But it largely depends on the attitude of LE

link? also, with all due respect to police. given the current evidence. I don’t think they could know if it is unrelated.

“The man was described as white, aged 18 to 22, and dressed entirely in black.

While no one was harmed at the time, security alerted staff and students in the leafy town where the last reported murder occurred in 2015 before Sunday.

Dean of students Blaine Eccles said the man in the September incident was 'not affiliated with the university'.

He said: 'He flashed a knife. That individual then turned himself in to law enforcement.”

Thought I would share a resource to help with those considering motives and probable cause.

This url seems to provide a government statistical accounting of crimes. More specifically, this url addresses homicides.

Based on a "Victim Demographics" chart in the middle of the page I try to summarize in a few lines. On the right of the chart, I clicked on % to provide a clearer view of the population distributions.

1. Victim circumstances: About 50% of the time, the circumstances of the homicide do not have enough supporting data to specify.

2. Victim's relationship to the offender: About 52% of the time, the relationship is unknown.

3. Murder Victim's by instrument: Only 7% are with a knives or cutting instruments.

You may make your own conclusions.

Mine:

#3 narrows this type of homicide to 7%

of those it is more likely, the offender is not known and there is little evidence to determine who they might be.

Perhaps, you may add to this observation.

One thing I wonder about is why J did not answer the phone. I'm not insinuating he is guilty of anything, but it just seems odd.

Allegedly Murphy is refusing to confirm his whereabouts..:p:D
(sorry, I couldn't resist)
Well, if Murphy is trained with speech buttons, and works with a dog therapist, we might some day be able to hear about it.

I've never seen a police log. I do note the discrepancy of the updated report on the Moscow, Idaho website which now reads:
" On the morning of the incident, officers located a dog at the residence. The dog was unharmed and turned over to Animal Services and then released to a responsible party."

I just don't understand turning the dog over to Animal Services if you know where the dog lived and who owns the dog (the ex-boyfriend.) If you don't know the owner and he doesn't have a collar, that's one thing. Or a disgruntled neighbor sending the dog away to try and instill responsible dog ownership principles is understandable (rude.)

But for the police to confiscate the dog from his home and turn him over to Animal Services.... why?
"Morning" could mean anything from 12:01 AM to 11:59 AM, so there is the potential that the dog was picked up before the murders occurred. However, someone who says they are local to Moscow responded to me in an earlier thread that Animal Control doesn't work nights or weekends. EDIT to clarify that since the 911 call was at 11:58 AM, it seems unlikely the dog was found AFTER police were aware of the crime scene. In that case, LE would have been the ones called on the weekend or after hours about a dog. This could have been the night before (while everyone was out and about at parties/bar), or it could have been during the night or morning. Where is the police log regarding this incident?? Is it possible someone reported or LE encountered a stray (and possibly bloody) animal Sunday morning before they were aware of the crime??

Sleeping. Not odd at all.

There are hundreds of reasons. Sleeping with phone off or away ? Not interested in having a conversation in the middle of the morning ? An uncharged phone or turned off ? Occupied ?

I text or call people that don't return a call, and sometimes, about 3 days later.

Does this help ?

Another theory (this is much weaker than my other ones tho so)
Maybe E + X were attacked first. Maybe M+K heard commotion and thought the ex boyfriend they were calling had actually come over and they might have come downstairs to see if it was him but instead finding the murderer or alternatively called out from their room ?!
I'm actually starting to think this may be closer to the actual events. They probably would have been calling from the bed they were sharing....probably thinking maybe E was in a fight w a frat bro or something.
All MOO obv
But as I mentioned in my last posts....the timeline of X and E has changed 2x and still doesn't jibe with X's and dad conversation time. There's like 3, 4 hours unaccounted for in LE timeline of victims.

Were surviving roommates home and awake at the time of this possible *altercation*? I would think they would have witnessed this.

My theory…just guessing of course…is that the survivors were in their rooms, maybe not alone…and they either heard nothing or thought it was just a ‘partying.” The parties I recall from ‘those days’ especially involved a lot of alcohol…could have loud voices indiscernible from an argument or just loud drunken ‘conversation.’

But why does it even have to be loud? I’ll make up an example. (pure fantasy) The four are sitting around…drunk guy from Frat party wanders in. He starts demanding E fix him up with one of the roommates. They reject him, and E pushes him out of the door…maybe with a little help from the girls. Maybe it got a little more physical and nasty than it might have in other circumstances.

It doesn’t take much, sadly, to set some people off these days.

Maybe E and X had words with someone and left the Frat party early. If that happened that could be an ‘altercation” that preceded the killing., They go home, girls arrive…and the Killer arrives, wanting to continue. Now the girls get involved…and he leaves furious at all 4.

All of this is purely speculation because we can only parse words from press conferences, parents and media at this point. Hopefully, LE has much more and is building a case.
