Some people really need to give up on “Hoodie Guy” being the culprit, IMO. We have video footage from one area detectives are interested in and a video still between two of these points, ie, Corner Club to grub truck, showing him in both instances. It’s reminiscent of a theory Captain Hastings would have in the marvelous Hercule Poirot series as opposed to the star himself.

Again, per official Moscow:

Detectives are also seeking additional tips and surveillance video of any unusual behavior on the night of November 12th into the early hours of November 13th while Kaylee and Madison were in downtown Moscow and while Ethan and Xana were at the Sigma Chi house. Anyone who observed unusual behavior near these areas or has video surveillance is asked to submit their tips.

I like this, but …

A lot of the Latah Trail is adjacent to farm land where people live. They have working farm/guard dogs that likely wouldn’t be quiet. Farmers/ranchers are perhaps less likely than folks in town to sleep through their dog(s) barking when the dogs are doing what they’re supposed to do.

Also, surveillance cameras, trail cams, etc are very common in the areas where private land is adjacent to public trails in this area for obvious reasons.

Of course, an organized prepared mass murderer might well have scoped out the trail in advance & made necessary adjustments/accommodations.

Just wanted to provide more data for the intriguing Latah Trail scenario :)
thank you! of course, in my scenario, this would all be done in the light of day, so sleeping dog not required to lie (Murphy included lol - sorry had to slip a dog joke in there). forgot to add the daylight part. also, imo jmo if I were a quadruple murderer, I'd have done that trail many times (Moscow to troy, and back) so I had it all figured out and so that if I were ever questioned, I could say yes, I was there many times, and I'd have my attorney direct them to potential dates and times.
but I am not married to this idea, and your input is worth my mulling over b/c apparently, I don't need to be doing anything else today. I was just tryin to find a logical reason for troy/kenrick and this is the best I can do. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this, though

I don't think anyone is questioning whether the person in the baseball cap who walked with them from the pub to the food truck is "hoodie guy". Same person. He's been ruled out.

The big news seems to be that someone at the food truck allegedly said "adam". I hope no one investigates people named Adam who might know one of the victims based on this news.

The reason why I think H.G. was "chaperoning" the girls is because he is a friend of Maddie's b.f., and was doing him a favor. JMHO.
I had the same feeling from when they parted at the food truck.

If only it was so easy to solve murders! Finding someone connected to any one of the victims, and figuring a way to imply that they were at the murder scene, is well known as "tunnel vision". It is the opposite of following the evidence. It is the strategy that has resulted in wrongful convictions.
Probably part of the reason any uninvolved Elantra owner may decide not to come forward and just wait for the police to find them.

HG is not called Adam, he has a different name.
Also I think Adam is a friend of Kaylees boyfriend and maybe that is why the girls were calling J that night. Maybe Adam told J something. Kaylee sounds upset in that video asking Maddie what she told Adam.

Jmo

ETA - also K was engrossed in her phone at the grub truck, maybe she was texting Adam about what Maddie said. Either way the police will by now know who and what she was texting.
Yet, they look as if they no use for him at the Food Truck. Did the convo take a turn? Or did phone events cause an attitudinal change?

Preparation aside, this was a VERY CAPABLE KILLER. That would entail a significant degree of planning. Did they plan to kill all four victims? Probably not, but they were prepared to confront multiple victims at the very least. All this done with little *fuss* in the dead of night. Probably isn't the first episode for this predator and won't be the last. MOO
I think a stun gun was probably used along with the knife as a contingency backup weapon.

Strange that nothing has shown up on Ethan and Xana yet.

I disagree. Police are not going to release the names of people who have been ruled out. That's nobody's business. Either Elantra owners contact police, or police will contact them. Easy choice.

Oh my. It's a horrific thought, but yes, why not? From a murderer perspective, it would make the job easier.

Oh my. Just the thought of it. Those poor people.

I think the takeaway is that LE has a lot more digital evidence than people know. That they aren’t as incompetent as some people think.

And that they have reasons for what they say/do even when it not obvious to those of us not privy to the mountains of data they have.

I continue to be infuriated by citizens leaking info. As a community member, it’s disappointing to me they think they “know better” than the experts conducting the investigation.

Moo.
100% right here imo.

A local could potentially scan the food truck for people of “interest.” Customers of the food truck had to wait for their food to be cooked (K&M were there for about 10-15 minutes if I recall correctly.) That gives enough time for a local to spot someone on the cameras and make it to the truck before they left. IMO
Exactly, or go to K&M’s house & watch & wait on the slope at the back of the house for them to come home & turn their lights out. MOO

Unfortunately, I can’t give an unbiased opinion on the Latah Trail aspects because I don’t like the Latah Trail. Unlike the Chapman Trail (Moscow to Pullman) the Latah Trail has a lot of elevation changes that would be nothing to young fit people. I’m neither.

It’s also feels more isolated than the Chipman Trail. Plus for a mass murderer, negative for me walking alone.

OTOH, the Chipman Trail likely has fewer dogs, surveillance cams, trail cams , & the like.

If I was a mass murderer who wasn’t going to flee the scene in a car, I think I’d be inclined to stash my vehicle in Pullman & take the Chipman Trail.

All moo - I don’t have a clue, but your comments have been making me allow my mind to wander about the getaway. I have a very biased interest in wanting to believe he immediately fled this area & isn’t lurking here in the winter dark.

And how far outside Moscow ID should the area of checking every white Elantra be?
When do they stop? What if they've done all of Idaho and Washington state and still can't find that one? Or they find it and the owner is innocent/has an alibi?

I wonder if too much emphasis is being placed on this car?

If I was doing a blood-soaked quadruple knife murder, I wouldn't want to be driving a WHITE car afterwards.......

"Adam" wasn't mentioned at the Grub Truck, it was audio from the new (to the public) surveillance footage, presumably, as the three walked from the Corner Club TO the Grub Truck.

I hate to admit it, but I can still remember this kind of stupid stuff with my friends and college. it can seem like a soap operatic mess, but it's important at the time. My first thought was some sort of issue related to the guy mentioned and that was why Kaylee was calling her ex. idk icbw this is just a guess based on my own dramatic social life during the college years, but that's where my mind went immediately, and probably LE has already talked to the guy and marked him off the list. so in a way, it's a nothing burger, but for me, at the very least, it's a sad reminder of where these young women were in their lives, the fun and carelessness and drama, and it just makes them and this feel more real ... and sadder even.

I am so old school. I default to zip ties and pre-cut duct tape.
