I’ve been busy today, so I haven’t had a chance to comment. Obviously the killer wasn’t going to get away with this, as no one murders four college kids in a house and gets away with it; not like this. I figured he had to have left DNA behind, as it’s tough not too with a weapon like that (slippage).

This guy is scary, as he seems to be like a character out of a Hollywood movie. I imagine he thought about murder for a long time, and wanted to see what it felt like, and wanted to get away with it. I imagine he’s quite arrogant, but he was no match for science.

With no criminal record, he wouldn’t have been in the system. My guess is they ultimately got a plate number, and obtained his DNA surreptitiously.

any verified LE or attorney want to opine on why Fry was emphasising they needed more public tips on BK?

If you want to find a weapon it certainly is. If you want to find a reason why, tips can help. If you want to see where he traveled (see weapon disposal and possible clothing worn), tips will help. Lots of good reasons for tips now that people know WHO it is.

It's normal. Now that they know who he is and he's in custody, they want to learn everything about him. He'll be on trial and they need to know everything they can to both prove their case and preempt the defense arguments.

Most importantly, they will want to know if he's spoken about the crime or if he's done anything related to the crime that other people can report on that can lead to more admissible evidence. What if he gave the knife to someone? They could get the murder weapon back! Think along those lines.

Next, they will want to know any inculpatory or exculpatory facts. Did he have a really bad childhood with trauma that the defense may use to try to explain his actions. You want to try to know to the best of your ability everything about the person you believe is responsible. The defense does not have the same duty to turn over evidence to the prosecution so the prosecution has to do as much work as they can.

Also, they will want to look into where he was before this. His DNA will be run through CODIS and maybe he will be connected to other crimes. Maybe there's a pattern of behavior that escalated to this.

All things they want to know to help in their charging and prosecution decisions.

Once a suspect is charged the media has to zip it and LE just go & do the rest of their investigation to make sure they have a solid case for trial - very unusual to make a public appeal for intelligence

It's possible, but that would be lightning fast for a genealogical DNA hit. I take anonymous sources with a grain of salt.

Agreed. That would be insanely fast. Usually it takes months and months, because there’s a backlog and the process takes some time. It’s possible, but I think highly unlikely.

I wonder if he chose the University in Pullman so that he could explore the crimes committed in the region. I believe his motivation is research based.

If he was in Pennsylvania when the request for a White Elantra sighting to be reported. What would it look like returning to Washington and hiding his car in some way. He was done. And knew this would lead to him being investigated

He thought he had everything planned so well. I also think he realized he would be caught when the vehicle identity was broadcast.

I don’t think BK had any specific connection to any of the occupants of 1122 King Rd, but nor do I believe he just happened upon the house that fateful night/morning.

I think he had been watching them…whether he saw the house as an easy target or whether he took a shine to one of the girls, I don’t know, but he chose the house for a reason and this is what interests me. Whilst the house being an easy target is possible, I suspect that perhaps he had in fact been stalking one of the victims and was obsessed with her, although a stalker has never been confirmed so this is MOO.

I think he was obsessed with what drove people to commit murder as part of his studies, this then turned into a further obsession over how it feels to actually do it, and he became so obsessed with it that he wanted to know for himself. Research wasn’t enough. He developed an urge to kill, he just needed a victim.

Why the girls? Perhaps he was a loner growing up, perhaps he wasn’t successful with girls, perhaps he resented them and had incel vibes and felt they deserved it, or perhaps he had never been up close and personal with young, attractive women before and this was his opportunity.

I think his burning desire to know what killing someone felt like just completely took over his mind, rendering his knowledge in his field useless. He was sloppy (DNA and Elantra identification) when he should have known better. He didn’t plan well enough and got caught over something that he could have prevented, all because his desires caused him to lose control.

With regard to his poor planning, I also don’t believe that he intended on killing so many people. Perhaps one, maybe two? I think the others heard a noise and ended up as collateral damage. Ethan included.

Believe it or not, i'd say the vast majority of people haven't even heard of this case or anything else about it. I work in a place with hundreds of employees and have not found a single person who knew much about it. It is possible they literally do not know. The attention bias is generally strong with websleuths in general. How could they NOT know about it, right? Reality is that unless one partakes in news often or is a sleuth themselves, they may not have heard about it. Loads of other things going on in the world.

Right you are! I'm local (I live in the same state 300 miles away) so I'm seeing it not only on national news, but our local news every day. My husband, who couldn't care less about crime, had no idea what I was talking about when I told him today that they arrested someone for these murders.

unless the parents are involved and I doubt that they are, this has to be as difficult for his parents as it is for the victim's parents.... all of them basically has lost a child, one way or another, in the most horrific way.

I do agree that both sides can deserve empathy. jmo. one thing that may be a mitigating factor for the parents is if the HE is not an exact match. IDK.

Have been wanting to comment on this all day. What a Christmas miracle. LE did a wonderful job and I hope get apologies from all the critics who called them incompetent and inexperienced and criticized it not being wrapped up in 47 minutes minus commercials. Justice please. Maybe they get him to say where the weapon is, which I’m assuming he ditched driving to PA along with thr clothes, give all the details of stalking, every detail of that night, and then give life without parole. I hope that’s what happens so the family knows everything and doesn’t have to endure a trial with some defense attorney potentially using criticism of LE and some faux contamination argument to get one juror to vote NG.

In general I don’t like to speculate either.

I did preface this speculation of mine as MOO. And expressed it more in question theory form based off of the questions reporters asked during press conference about any other people who may or may not be involved.

For me personally.

I do believe he is the murderer. That LE has concrete forensic evidence which proves without a doubt he committed these crimes.

But I’m not leaving out the possibility that he had an accomplice the police were not aware of before the arrest.

Yesterday they were full steam ahead to fully clean and sanitize the house.

Today there is a court order to halt that.

They knew yesterday he was going to be arrested in the night.

Only thing that could throw a curveball in cleanup plans in my opinion would be information they received from arrest early this morning.

I do believe those are fair questions. I asked "what information" because I heard nothing in the press conference that supported your assertions. (I was not listening carefully.) Knowing exactly what you were referring to would help me better understand your position. When your opinions are vaguely "based off of initial info and press conference information and wording used by LE," it doesn't give me much to go on.

Do we simply have different interpretations of what was said? Or did I miss something important? It's impossible to know, or engage in meaningful discussion, without the details.

So, he drove from Washington State to Pennsylvania and had to stop along the way for gas, to eat, to sleep (in his car or a motel). It's possible he struck up conversations at different places with random strangers. He could have said something to those people that seemed off, or telling. I'm sure LE would love to know about it.

The Officer said "he lives in Pennsylvania". He has an apartment in Washington state ? Confusing.

I believe his family home is in Pennsylvania, but he had an apartment in Pullman near campus.

Good! People need to discuss these types. Serial killers, psychopathy in relation to terrible murders--all that. Were there clues he could do this? That's helpful stuff, imho.

Imo, there was a bit of a push against profiling (going through motives, etc) before we knew who was an official suspect. Everywhere, I mean. But the scene can give good ideas about the *sort* of person who does certain crimes.

I never thought this would be one of their social circle. Imo, it screamed something different and increasing unusual with technology and cameras, etc.

I don't know. I'm just so glad they caught him!!!

Can someone explain why it there is so much emphasis in media stories about BK that he was an ultra-vegan and a Libertarian? Do Libertarian vegans murder people often or something? I mean, seriously?
