This is a great drone view of Idaho Falls. Idaho Falls is where someone might live or have lived, and may have driven from to Leadore.
The Snake River is a major river in Idaho and runs right through IF. There is a nice paved walking and biking path along the river.

Sorry, but I disagree with you about how much weight an Eagle can carry. I volunteer with a Lost Dog Recovery group and I had to research this once.

This is about Bald Eagles:

http://www.adfg.alaska.gov/index.cfm?adfg=wildlifenews.view_article&articles_id=343

From the article you linked:
"There used to be stories about eagles carrying off babies and little kids, and none of that has ever been documented,” he said. “They can pick up and carry four or five pounds, maximum, and actually fly off with it. They can lift a little more and hop it along, but they can’t carry it off."

That article is pretty clear. There is no way a bald eagle or ANY eagle could have picked up little Deorr. That's why I wonder why the sheriff had eagle nests searched, unless, like Bessie has suggested, they were looking for scraps of clothing. But even then, from what I've read, an eagle wouldn't have been responsible for removing any of the clothing from little Deorr because it wouldn't have tried to go after him in the first place. It sort of makes me wonder how much the sheriff really "knows" about eagles and their habits.

Would an eagle scavenger off of what another animal would leave behind?

Okay so I went and answered my own question because I was curious.
After reading this article I'm thinking the sheriff shearched the eagle nest because it wouldn't be to out of the norm for an eagle to feed off of another animals kill.

BBM I couldn't find any quote that the Sheriff had an eagle nest searched, although the PI claimed they did.

“It just didn’t make sense that all the searches that took place couldn’t find any parts of human remains, clothing, nothing. They checked wolf dens, bear dens, eagle’s nests. They checked all that and nothing came up.”

This what I could find regarding the Sheriff:

Over the weekend, the sheriff and his deputies carefully examined a nearby wolf den but found not a single clue -- no remnant of clothing or sign the boy had been dragged from the campsite.

"We've got a pack of wolves in there -- about 15 of them," Bowerman said. "We actually chased one out the day before yesterday."

Does anyone have a quote from the Sheriff or LE in regards to searching eagle nests? If not, I will take what the PI says with a grain of salt since he admits they are not sharing evidence with him & I believe he said to the effect not returning his calls. No offense intended, I just consider and weigh where the sources of information come from.

Right. I never realized how bad azz they were till I reading up on em tonight. They can only pick up to about 4 lbs at a time tho.

I think it would be highly unusual for an eagle to take a toddler. I tried to find any such recorded cases on the internet but came up with nothing. But apparently Coyotes are losing their fear of humans and attacking them, but mainly in California per this article. There was this case:
Fatal attacks

Two fatal coyote attacks have been confirmed by experts:

In August, 1981, a coyote attacked three-year-old Kelly Keen in the driveway of her Glendale, California home and ran off with her. She was rescued by her father and rushed to the hospital, but died in surgery due to blood loss and a broken neck.[2][4]
In October 2009, Taylor Mitchell, a 19-year-old Canadian folk singer on break from a concert tour, died from injuries and blood loss sustained in an attack by two eastern coyotes in Cape Breton Highlands National Park in Nova Scotia, Canada

Thanks for looking, but this was from the PI interview.

I haven't found a statement from the sheriff directly about the searches of the eagle nests. Vilt made the reference during an interview. If Vilt didn't get the information from the sheriff or other local LE directly then my guess is he got it from JM and DK. I'm sure the sheriff kept the parents up-to-date regarding what was being searched.

Aren't Eagles endangered species? I don't think anybody's allowed to disturb them.

Had to look that one up. I guess they are no longer on the endangered list.

The bald eagle is both the national bird and national animal of the United States of America. The bald eagle appears on its seal. In the late 20th century it was on the brink of extirpation in the contiguous United States. Populations have since recovered and the species was removed from the U.S. government's list of endangered species on July 12, 1995 and transferred to the list of threatened species. It was removed from the List of Endangered and Threatened Wildlife in the Lower 48 States on June 28, 2007.

I just had a thought, if someone was intent to push an abduction theory, the best way maybe to show how no other theory is possible. For example the most thorough searches using the best, most advanced technology available, etc. therefore it 'has' to be an abduction.

Although the Sheriff has narrowed his thoughts down on probabilities or possibilities due the apparent lack of evidence not found while searching, last I remember he hasn't ruled anything out totally. We also don't know what other evidence that was turned over to the FBI that may open the door to other scenarios of what may have happened to little DeOrr. JMO, but I am always going to be a little leary or take a closer look, when someone 'pushes' a one-sided agenda/conclusion, especially when the stakes are so high.
