:overreaction:

I'm just getting caught up after focussing more over on Rainn Peterson. So the "new developments" alluded to in the headline appear to be that the Sheriff went back to the campsite, looked at some poop, says there is no sign of abduction by person or animal, but can't rule out abduction by person or animal, parents were meeting a sketch artist, and Grandma misses her grandson. Blargh.
While I'm glad the Sheriff was at the site again, I'm feeling super frustrated. Can't imagine how LE and the family must feel.
Anyone else think that maybe the FBI info is already back to the Sheriff? I just don't see him rushing to the press to share it. Especially if it came back ... gasp ... inconclusive.

That's my feeling.

IMO, the sheriff blew it.. never had a clue and did the search with his own (proven ability) dog, and some other dogs.. did drone searches and whatever else the "book" says to do. HE FORMED HIS OPINION EARLY about the 4 POI based on his own statements, scoffed at the staring man info, and called the FBI in 3 weeks too late. The fact that a documentary is being made including one of the sheriffs is laughable, MOO. IMO, they have thrown in the towel and the sheriff wasnt smart or bluffing or holding things close to the chest.. he was clueless and probably made some major mistakes. JMO

Anything i write is just my opinion.

My thoughts exactly. :(

That's what I think. It sounds like the Sheriff's office went back up there for one last look before they announce the FBI findings. My guess is they will come back with "inconclusive" and this case will become cold. Another Lisa Irwin.

Agree.

Its hard to believe that the perp(s) weren't caught right away and arrested. I don't think they were expert criminals.

I have to assume that the local LE was in way over there head and should have called for support right away. Now too much time has gone by and it is even tougher.

.

I still say the boy found wandering outside that motel in California was DeOrr or his identical twin. You could not get any closer match than that. And it was shrugged of because "the mother" finally showed up and took him.

Me too, Arnie. Maybe if we could have seen more pics we would be more convinced. With only the one it was difficult to see any difference. It sounds like the family is sure so they must have seen some evidence we didn't.

ETA: I sure hope they did, including more pics.

But would an animal predator stay nearby in this situation, what with all the people and the noise and the commotion of the search? First the family, frantic and calling, then the dogs and all those vehicles. Would that not spook an animal and cause it to leave and travel further than what is usual?

Also, I'm wondering if there would still be evidence in scat three months later, or even scat that old still sitting around. Wouldn't it be gone by now? Surely they examined the scat initially. I hope so.

Bowerman told KTVB the grid search involved animal feces identification, also known as scat, to help rule out abduction by animal.

There were reports bears or mountain lions could have been in the camping area at the time DeOrr disappeared, but Bowerman says those animals bury their prey nearby. And his search found nothing.

I agree, neesaki. The mountain lion will not stick around to observe the activity, especially when the prey is small :-(. I doubt the search three months ago was focused on scat, and even if it had been, it's not easy to find on the forest floor. Personally, I think the sheriff is doing some CYA, but like you, I question whether or not scat would still be there. I know doggie poop sort of disintegrates after a rather short period of time from the elements. Cats don't always "bury" their prey nearby either. Actually, they cover it up - they don't bury it. And bears, as far as I know, don't do either. He may be the sheriff, but he's no wild animal "expert", that's for sure! IMO. Also IMO he's kind of a know it all. My apologies do those who think he's the best thing since sliced bread, but I just don't agree.

I have a hunch that this documentary is the David Paulides "Missing 411" film that was funded through Kickstarter and currently being filmed. Paulides discussed the case on a paranormal talk show recently. So putting two and two together, this may be what's going on.

I agree with your hunch.

I suppose this is bait for me [emoji6]I guess it's all relative. I can see how people who are really humble in their opinions of what they think they know and who are also wild animal experts might view the sheriff as falling short in the categories you mentioned. I, personally, have no idea. I tend to think he was surrounded by people from that region who know what they are doing.

I guess my feeling at this point is that if the 2-year-old was never left unwatched by the adults he was with we wouldn't have the luxury of pointing fingers at the sheriff or anyone else tasked to find him. Unfortunately, the sheriff might not have been able to impact DeOrr's fate, regardless of his knowledge of scat, eagle's nests or lions habits.

It looks as though we may not find out what happened to him, which I suspected might be the case. Even if the FBI thinks one scenario is more possible than another, if there is not enough evidence to draw definitive conclusions or press any charges, this remains an ongoing investigation. So there will likely be plenty of time and many more opportunities to criticize LE.
Have fun!

from the link:

Bowerman went on to say he is not ruling out the possibility of abduction by person or animal. Bowerman said DeOrr’s mother and father met with a sketch artist this last week. DeOrr’s parents have said they thought a man was looking strangely at DeOrr at a gas station in Leadore. The artist is drawing a composite sketch of what the man may have looked like. Bowerman hopes to release the sketch soon.
