It's a soap opera, isn't it?
I think that they are all strange. It is like there is some competition going on to prove that they are the most pious and know the most Bible verses.

Were you maybe trying to say that you just noticed the age differences, and that one of the stereotypical characteristics of gold diggers is a younger woman who is married to a much older man with money? Therefore, "Dang! Lori is a stereo typical gold digger!"
Moooooo

Yes. Lol. I thought being tactful was safer. :D

I just want to read the letter and cannot find it. I thought East Idaho News would have published it.

I gather it’s a very tight knit community. First the church says don’t become part of a case till you talk to us. Supposedly sent to leaders only.

Now, the sister in law, who IS a leader, writes an open letter to the members about Chad and him being dangerous. What gives? Do those of us on the “outside” of this group even know how to follow this case anymore? Just a question.

Yes, sort of like a soap opera but worse.

An extension of their "soc" Mormon seminary high school classes.

"The lady doth protest too much, methinks."

They sure are drawing attention to themselves with these letters. Jmo

@Niner, note date of Lori's arraignment cancelled and rescheduled to 9/10 @ 10 am in above post. (Chad's is still the same shown in below post)
How much rescheduling is actually allowed?

Her letter totally backs the Church, so maybe they "cleared" it. I imagine the gossip must be excruciating. Rather than speak with each person individually, she just sent out a mass email.

My take (which you may be tired of hearing):

Chad's sister in law isn't Chad's ecclesiastical leader (it's possible, though unlikely that she may have been Lori's -- I don't know who was in which stake). Thus the Church's letter (which tells leaders not to become involved in legal matters involving members under their stewardship) does not apply to her in this case.

I'd guess that this letter from the sister in law stems instead from a dual motive (among others) of trying to clear her own name from the suspicion that seems to follow everyone in Chad and Lori's circle as well as reinforcing a narrative that the Church has nothing to do with Chad's alleged misdeeds. In addition, she's probably dealing with the real anguish of trying to figure out why a close family member could have gone so far off the tracks, and maybe also trying to help her (local stake) community (one in which a healthy number may have been somewhat attracted to Chad's/AVOW's/PAP's messages) with trying to coalesce back around mainstream LDS beliefs.

Guess we'll see where this letter takes us.

Definitely just my opinion -- I could easily be wrong: I doubt this was run through church lawyers. While the contents do supposedly support the church, my sense is that the central church prefers to stay out of the scripture-quoting "weeds" in this case. In addition, lawyers will typically advise people to say less rather than more publicly.

It does sound possible that this is a more locally-led/sanctioned initiative by this particular stake's leaders (perhaps with some sort of nod from a higher level.) But it still does not sound like something church lawyers were involved with to me.

Really? These scripture quoting people who marry many times and bury children and have ecclastical spiritual leaders, belong to a religion? Back in the real world..

It's said in the video that the letter was written at the request of the stake president. Chad's sister in law is the stake relief society president.

Among other things she points out in the letter that she and her husband were blamed and ostracized by the extended family for expressing concern and trying to warn others about Chad's beliefs.

I don't think people who were on the right side of things the entire time should be blamed for the outcome of this case.

She was asked to write the letter by the stake president.

ETA: I have since read the entire letter. It's a little confusing as to who asked whom to send/write what. The letter was distributed by another person, who is the stake Relief Society president.
