The stake president? What on earth is a stake president? She was asked to write the letter by the stake president.
Within the LDS church, there are local wards that meet together to worship. Their local leader is called a Bishop. Then, there are about 10 wards that geographically are close together. A leader over those 10 wards would be called the Stake President. The stake president? What on earth is a stake president?
I thought only males had positions of leadership. Have things changed for the better, finally?Within the LDS church, there are local wards that meet together to worship. Correction - too late to edit: The person (AG) who distributed the letter appears to be a ward Relief Society president. She was asked to write the letter by the stake president.
ETA: I have since read the entire letter. It's a little confusing as to who asked whom to send/write what. The letter was distributed by another person, who is the stake Relief Society president.
Is delaying an arraignment the type of thing that might happen if the defendant was discussing possible plea deals w/the DA?Yes...I can not find the paperwork posted yet.
Thank you.High school hierarchy group.
Soc' short for the Socials, the top group that wins class elections etc.
Thank you and no, not tired of it at all. How could any of us outside LDS understand unless we had those who are in the church explain? I really appreciate it.My take (which you may be tired of hearing):
Chad's sister in law isn't Chad's ecclesiastical leader (it's possible, though unlikely that she may have been Lori's -- I don't know who was in which stake). Thus the Church's letter (which tells leaders not to become involved in legal matters involving members under their stewardship) does not apply to her in this case.
I'd guess that this letter from the sister in law stems instead from a dual motive (among others) of trying to clear her own name from the suspicion that seems to follow everyone in Chad and Lori's circle as well as reinforcing a narrative that the Church has nothing to do with Chad's alleged misdeeds. In addition, she's probably dealing with the real anguish of trying to figure out why a close family member could have gone so far off the tracks, and maybe also trying to help her (local stake) community (one in which a healthy number may have been somewhat attracted to Chad's/AVOW's/PAP's messages) with trying to coalesce back around mainstream LDS beliefs.
Guess we'll see where this letter takes us.
Quoting scripture when addressing the congregation? I'm sure it never happened before.MOO I cannot imagine how horrifying this would be for extended family. This was not released to the media, nor did the author book an interview on Inside Edition. Quoting scripture helps a lot of folks not just LDS. If they continued to be silent it would be suspicious, now that they speak out to their own church members it is suspicious? They cannot win. We have no idea what they are offering to LE.
But that’s her right. Her letter totally backs the Church, so maybe they "cleared" it. I imagine the gossip must be excruciating. Rather than speak with each person individually, she just sent out a mass email.
Agree! Maybe she is thinking her letter will bring apologies from the other side of the family. I doubt it. Sounds like the others dug in their heels long ago. It's said in the video that the letter was written at the request of the stake president. Chad's sister in law is the stake relief society president.
Among other things she points out in the letter that she and her husband were blamed and ostracized by the extended family for expressing concern and trying to warn others about Chad's beliefs.
I don't think people who were on the right side of things the entire time should be blamed for the outcome of this case.
I have tried and tried and the letter won’t come up. I’m not on Twitter but I clicked on the link. Can you bring the letter over here please?

I don’t live quite near there. But looks like it was already sharedOh brother lol! These people, seriously. I wish we had a copy of the letter. Maybe @RexburgSleuth can get us one? MOO
Could you get it, @SleuthD-o-doubleg ??
Different SIL. Tammy's sister gave them the location. Heather Daybell is married to Chad's brother Matt.BBM in post above
MOO We do know that SIL, per affidavit, was in touch and gave them the location of the pet cemetery through back and forth with FBI right before the warrant and "appeared to be on FBI speed dial"??? MOO (known to LE previously that she would work with them, as they called her straight away, and even Chad accused MG of being on the side of SIL even wayyyyyyyyyyy back on Dec 8th 2019 in MG call we heard, so he knew where the SIL stood way back on December 8th!. How did he know then, and more importantly, why did he know that!??)
Yes @LDS social scientist, it appears that even Chad knew that the SIL (per MG call) was not on "his page", yet he stated such on December 8 2019 to MG. So sad that she was shunned (my word, not technical or religious) and she is having to go through this. As we all know here that follow cases, the living are victims that have to go through heck being associated. It appears to confirm, even from Chad in the MG call, that he was aware. Even BEFORE this hit the news!
