Have you seen Richard? Elderly Caldwell man, 88, still missing

Caldwell Police says officers are still looking for a man reported missing in March.

Caldwell PD says Richard Vondach, 88, was last seen leaving his accountant's office in the area of Maple Grove and Overland on Tuesday, March 5.

Vondach's family stated that he lives alone, but has some difficulty with symptoms of dementia. He was driving his tan 2012 Toyota Corolla on the day he went missing. He also doesn't have a cellphone.

On a second look at the scene, the deputy located Vondach's burned body, over 70 feet away from his car.

As for the cause of the fire, Wolfe said the Oregon State Police Arson Unit was called in but found no evidence of foul play.

The vehicle was “stuck in the mud and it looked like the person had spent quite a bit of time trying to get it unstuck, by trying to work it back and forth,” the sheriff said.

That action may have caused the vehicle to overheat and catch on fire, but investigators “don’t know that for sure,” Wolfe said.

It appeared the car and body had been at the butte for about three weeks.
