If he staged this attack, and it's looking very much like he did, the ramifications of his acts are huge. It wasn't enough to send a threatening letter to get attention (if he did that too), then he doubled down to stage a phony attack. He used these two brothers as pawns and is now throwing them under the bus. How is that for compassion?

All of his tweets - condescending, hateful, sanctimonious (many now deleted) - it all wreaks of arrogance and narcissism. For a couple weeks we WS'ers have had to tip-toe around the fact that this alleged attack was WAY off. Something was not right. Things did not add up. It was so incredibly obvious. Yet we were sometimes vilified on this thread as being hateful and anti-victim. No, I think we were only looking for the truth.

I hope those of you Quiznos(sic) supporters do not use this as an opportunity to paint with a broad brush against those you do not see eye to eye with. This act doesn't reflect on "the other side". I don't eat Quiznos(sic) and I am not a fan of their leader. You and I have been allies in this case to find the truth. Let's not bring anything else into this discussion other than the acts of this seemingly troubled individual. This is not a referendum on the state of things in our country. Let's leave all that out. Please.

Now it seems the truth is that this arrogant man has done real, lasting damage to those people who actually do get victimized because of their race or sexual orientation. It happens, and it happens a lot in this country. I have witnessed it myself. The next time someone claims to be a victim of a hate crime there will be pause because of Jussie Smollett. That should anger all of us.

I disagree. There SHOULD be a pause before people go off half-baked, in either direction. We have this fiasco with Jussie, the hateful rush to judgment in the case of the Catholic school boys, and there was one other case prior to that recently.

"I" ask that everyone pause and consider, please. Things just aren't what they seem all the time.

IMO

Careful people. Being judgmental is not a good trait in todays world.

BBM. Totally agree with you on that. My point, though, is that there are real victims, and justice should be pursued for them without prejudice.

Thats whats so frustrating to me, theres no need to fabricate a crime. Jussie should have used whatever celebrity he has to highlight these crimes that happen all the time to others rather than create another one.

Now it seems the truth is that this arrogant man has done real, lasting damage to those people who actually do get victimized

He even acknowledged that someone doing a hoax like this would hurt victims its not like he can claim that this got out of hand or he didn't intend consequences of his actions.

I agree with you I hate when these actions are attributed to standard political ideology because just like most people on the right don't commit hate crimes against minorities most people on the left don't create fake hate crimes. Its lazy and divisive. I'm not American so I don't have a "side" that I'm on per se but it seems like certain people on either side are so excited to blame politics whenever a crime is committed. Also I think it attributes power so wrongly to people, don't forget Ellen Page blamed Mike Pence for what happened to Jussie.

Well if he wasn’t being killed off on Empire he will be now. He can kiss his career goodbye.

Jussie Smollett no longer considered a victim in case, Chicago police say

Jussie Smollett no longer considered a victim in case, Chicago police say

..........

about time.

This is MSM stating that JS is no longer considered a victim in this convoluted case. That is pretty significant, especially here on WS.

At the same time, it is impossible to determine what mental health state JS was/is in, since most of us are not mental health professionals, and if any of you are, I would encourage you to become verified on our forum in that field. Even licensed mental health professionals are reluctant to diagnose anyone they have not met and spoken to at length in person. That said, I think we should be very careful about claiming that the compaintant meets the criterion for any specific mental health diagnosis. While articles about certain mental health diagnoses are helpful GENERAL information, NONE of us can claim that JS definitely meets the indicators of certain disorders. Only licensed professionals WHO HAVE TREATED HIM could do that, and it is against the law for them to do so on a forum such as ours due to HIPAA laws.

I would have hoped that after the last couple of very recent hoaxes, one after the other that more people would have paused first. Maybe "next time" we'll do better, fingers crossed.

Do you think so? It seems that the acting world has their own values. They openly applaud a man who skipped out on sentencing for child rape. Prison terms for drug addiction are considered a "norm". Shoplifting, domestic abuse, shrug.

Heck, he will probably get a reality tv show. Wouldn't surprise me a bit.

Seriously, these people get into a bubble world, where everyone agrees with everything they say, like booble head dolls. They get more and more extreme, and no one says a word. Kathy Griffin comes to mind, she thought holding a severed head effigy of the President of the United States would be funny. It crossed a line.

I hope what Mr. Smollett has done, also crosses a line. And I hope he gets treatment. He is literally screaming for attention. He needs therapy. Maybe even a suicide watch.

He doesn’t have a name brand recognition to get away with this stunt.

He is in a mediocre show and his solo music career doesn’t seem to have gone anywhere either. Who is seriously going to come out and support him now?

Was just thinking about the statement Jussie's lawyer gave which said that one of the brothers was his personal trainer. Will this be used as an excuse if they are able to find a money trail? aka "of course I/my manager gave him $3,500, hes my personal trainer"
Such a small amount of money. I guess JS would have had to pay much more to hire true professionals. I wonder if he was trying to hold on to his cash for when his Empire character would be written out.

ALL crimes should be pursued without prejudice, IMO. I only ask that we pause and be SURE there IS/WAS a crime in the first place.

That is an excellent question. How far would has have let that go? Would he have let two innocent people go to jail, possible suffer violence to keep this up?

What is the most unbelievable about this to me is the motive. I want everyone to think two racist white people attacked me because that will boost my career? (speculation obviously).
I think it’s hard to read the tea leaves sometimes when we try to discern motive. Personally, I see it as a combo of things, but more than anything else, I honestly see it as a cry for help.

This is significant. Because if those guys get charged and convicted with felony hate crime in the attack, the brother with the murder conviction could see serious time.

I bet that they were very cooperative during the questioning with Chicago PD. Which is why they got to leave Friday night.

And JS wants to continue the "Victim" story. Interesting. This will be a new version.

do we know if the brothers are US citizens? If not, one should not have been allowed to stay. And would they be deported after this? That is, IF they are not U.S. Citizens.

I have fallen way behind here. Can someone help me understand the Quiznos reference? I don’t understand.

Rehearsed! Oh my gosh, Jussie, Jussie, Jussie. I bet JS was steamed his well-rehearsed sweet ninja moves against the two homophobe racists weren’t broadcast nationally for all the world to see!

Interview with Robin Roberts:

Smollett said the attacker told him, “This is ”Quizno’s Country!” (Quizno’s my own substitution for something political I think we’re not supposed to use?) and used a racial slur before punching him in the face. “So I punched his a-- right back.”

“We started tussling,” Smollett said. A second attacker began kicking him in the back. “Then it just stopped, and they ran off. "

...

“I want them to see that I fought back,” Smollett continued, his voice breaking. “And I want a little gay boy who might watch this to see that I fought the f--- back."

“I didn’t run off. They did,” Smollett said, referring to his attackers.

Dangerous indeed that he felt the need to empower future “little gay boys” attacked by multiple tuffs armed with weapons to “fight back” like he did *cough*, if the better option may be to run like heck.
