I think it was both to protect him from other inmates and suicide. Keep in mind that it was Smollett and his team that requested this protection which was granted by the court.

Jussie Smollett also badly alienated the CPD (Chicago Police Department) in his faux plea deal - less than 20 hours of community service.

IMO CPD was blindsided by Kim Foxx's deal with JS. CPD didn't find out about the 'plea deal' until they attended Kim Foxx's press conference where it was announced.

CPD is within Cook County Illinois. The guards that are 'protecting him' are Cook County LE.

Completely my opinion, I don't think he will be as safe in CCJ as we might assume.

Actually, the booking photo of JS in his white dress shirt minus his necktie was uploaded by Cook County along with his booking details less than 90 minutes after he was taken into custody. I think this was simply a timing issue where they booked him prior to searching him and taking away his clothes.

I previously posted his booking sheet direct from CCJ on Thursday evening including the same photo but due to java or whatever, the photo did not paste and appears as an image with a red. See quoted post below.

There was absolutely an attempted cushy deal of community service. JS completed less than 20 hours of community service (secretly). By secretly I mean the CPD and the press was unaware of this.

His community service was served on a Saturday and a Monday for Jesse Jackson's Rainbow/PUSH organization. KF did NOT announce this deal until that Tuesday. On that Tuesday, KF held a press conference to announce he had already completed his community service work.

CPD was completely blindsided as they thought they had they had handed Kim Foxx a very solid case to prosecute.

Following the hearing, I recall a reporter asked his grandmother about his "I'm not suicidal" comments and her response was that he likely said this to keep his family from worrying about him. More like reassurance.

I just hate that he put his family through this, as well. Maybe they believe him, maybe they don't, maybe they are split in their belief, but they are all defending him. If they believed it at any point, then he made them suffer for no reason.

I can see that they love him but I feel so bad for his little 92-year Jewish grandma. She might very well think this is true, and was worried for him, even though the attack never happened.

When he was wiping tears at his little old grandma defending him to the judge, I was trying to figure out if he was actually crying, or if that was just another acting scene. Most likely an act, and then how dare he make this ancient woman have to go through this?

Yes, his brother that he threw under the bus when Jussie was caught for drunk driving---and he gave them his brothers name and birthdate.

And then Jussie's lead attorney, has the gall to try and justify that action. In his speech to the judge, the attorney tries to downplay that act of 'lying to the police' by Jussie. He says ' Your honour, my client was drunk at the time that he did that" WELL DUH, he was arrested for a DUI, we know he was drunk. But that is not a valid excuse...

Then this insufferable, enabling attorney says " and he was only 24 years old, your honour, a young man" SERIOUSLY? 24 is not old enough to know it is wrong to lie to police and throw your own brother under the bus by trying to get him arrested for drunk driving?

His friends and family have enabled him his entire life.

And yes, his other brother yesterday---screaming and demanding that Jussie be released because he is the innocent victim of a racial attack and he is only in jail now because he is black....DOES HE SERIOUSLY BELIEVE THAT?
