Jussie Smollett Sentenced to 150 Days in Prison, 30 Months Probation for Hate Crime Hoax

According to ABC 7 Chicago, the actor Samuel L. Jackson and Rev. Jesse Jackson were among those who wrote to the judge asking for leniency in his sentence. “I humbly implore you to please find an alternative to incarceration,” Samuel L. Jackson wrote.

The judge called the defendant selfish, arrogant and narcissistic during the sentencing. Following the ruling, Smollett declared, “I am not suicidal, I am innocent.”

As it was read aloud in court yesterday, the letter was actually written by Samuel L. Jackson's wife (and she attached his name to it, so I assume he approved but she was the one who wrote the letter).

I read her piece. She even admitted in so many words that with her blessing and decision the initial JS case was quickly and efficiently swept under the rug! POOF!!

There was absolutely not ONE WORD about the potential damage done to true victims of hate crimes. Instead...she went political....with all the correct buzz words and narrative she could fit into it. Shameful.
Chicago and Illinois can do better.

Kim Foxx, that was a piece of work. There is so much that could be said about this commentary...

However, given the circumstances, I will just hope that Chicago recognizes that runaway, escalating crime won't end until prosecutors step up and hold people accountable for breaking laws.

Just reading this quote someone wrote him in support "Johnson wrote. "Mr. Smollett does not pose, nor has he ever posed, a threat to anyone.", its nonsense, I have no doubt in my mind that he would have let innocent people go down for this who were in the wrong place at the wrong time, you just have to look at how he smeared the Osundario brothers who he knew to know what he would have done to random people who got caught up in it.

Thank God hes too dumb to even plan an attack on himself correctly. If he staged this somewhere with less cameras, outside a major urban area, he could have gotten away with it

Wonder if anything will ever come of the investigation into the letter?
IMHO JS poses an extreme threat to us all by trying to start a race war during such a volatile period in our history. Shame on him and whoever supports that evil behavior.

‘The Hypocrisy is Just Astounding': Judge Scolds Jussie Smollett at Sentencing Hearing

"You turned your life upside down by your misconduct and shenanigans,"
the judge stated. "There's nothing that any sentencing judge can do to you that would compare to the damage you've already caused yourself."

[snip]

"For you to now sit here, convicted of hoaxing hate crimes, racial hate crimes and homophonic hate crimes, the hypocrisy is just astounding," he said.

[snip]

"You knew this was a country that was slowing trying to heal past injustices and current injustices and trying to make a better future for each other," he said. "...And it was a hard road...You took some scabs off some healing wounds, and you ripped them apart for one reason - you wanted to make yourself more famous, and for a while it worked."

While Linn acknowledged there are giving, charitable and loving parts of Smollett, he said there's another part of the actor that's profoundly arrogant, selfish and narcisistic.

"...That bad side of you came out during the course of all these events," he said.

It is so puzzling to me, although maybe it shouldn’t be, that those who staunchly believe in Jussie’s innocence, after hearing the same evidence, can just ignore the fact that a jury of his peers, found him guilty.

If I believed Jussie was a victim of mob justice, as Kim Foxx stated, or malicious prosecution I would state that.

The judge sentenced him appropriately, IMO.

Actually considering all the lies I think he got off very lightly. He could have gotten years.

I haven’t looked at the sentencing guidelines for his offenses. Apparently you have. You should have bolded the part of my post you are debating.

The point of my post, as I stated, was that there is so much disparity between the opinions of supporters of Jussie and those who heard the same evidence and had a completely different view.

Foxx's inflamatory language is offensive and dangerous. Excerpt from her piece:

"What is most frustrating is that my cooperation in a process I knew was illegitimate sets a precedent that can be weaponized against progressive prosecutors determined to break the cycle of inevitable outcomes."

Foxx has a lot of nerve including herself among progressive prosecutors when Foxx alone was the only prosecutor determined to undermine the decisions of both a grand jury and trial jury. Pray she's the last of her kind.
