I just can't get past two random racists on the Chicago streets in the middle of the night even recognizing him, nevermind jumping him.

I guess that I don't understand what part Mr. Smollett's sexual orientation has in this attack. Did the attackers know him? How did they know his sexual orientation?

He said the shouted "Hey Empire!" And then called him a f---- and a n----. So, according to him, they recognized him from the show AND knew he was gay.

Oh, he must be very famous. And I had never heard of him before this attack.

So, that is significant, because maybe this attack was planned.

He's famous now! This was planned for sure.

Makes me wonder if CPD were not aware that JS has made a positive ID until after watching GMA this morning...

I just found it hard to believe they couldn't track down the 2 on the video. I'm sure they were able to trace their comings and goings just as they did with JS.

The victim states that he stood his ground, while the criminals "ran off".
From the original CPD report: "Victim does not know in which direction they went."
The victim could see them running, but not in which direction? What causes that? Even using only your hearing, you can tell what direction sounds of footsteps are going. The victim, however, may have terrible vision and hearing.

The victim tells GMA he sustained a rope burn to his neck, an undeniable indication of attempted strangling.
However, the victim doesn't remember even having the rope on until after he enters the apartment and that it is hanging loosely around his neck. Of course, with such a violent attack he would be in shock.
Strangulation is an attempted murder. Why have the Chicago Police Department not upgraded this attack to an Attempted Murder rather than an Assault and Battery?

The victim addresses members of the public who questions the events as ignorant, "don't want to see the truth", and racist "and it feels like if I had said it was a Muslim, or a Mexican, or someone black, I feel like the doubters would have supported me much more. A lot more."

The victim equates anyone who wears a MAGA hat as a racist. “I don't need some MAGA hat as the cherry on top of some racist sundae.”.

Very troubling GMA interview, to say the least.

I don't think hitting the "like" button is enough.... Excellent critical thinking here!

"The victim tells GMA he sustained a rope burn to his neck, an undeniable indication of attempted strangling. "

I have wondered about this very statement. The temperature was -10F. If you go out in that weather you will get frostbite very quickly, right? I didn't see the interview - did the interviewer ask what he was wearing in the way of winter gear? I wonder the answer to that because of 2 things: 1) how was his neck exposed to receive rope burns and 2) how did they recognize him as the actor from Empire? Did they pull off his hat/scarf or whatever it was he wore for protection? Did he mention that? TIA

I haven't read anything other than the CPD took his clothing for the investigation. No idea what he was or wasn't wearing.

In the interview he says that bleach was on his sweatshirt. No mention of a coat but I assume you couldn't be wearing just a sweatshirt in that weather even with base layers

Sounds like the people of interest are cooperating with CPD, could be out of towner's coming back to Chicago to talk with LE. IMO

2 questioned in Smollett attack; actor says it's 'ridiculous' he'd lie about it

Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said detectives believe the two men are the same people shown in an image police released to the public after the attack. He said detectives were able to trace their location by “meticulously” poring over video camera footage.

“Transportation records” also assisted detectives, Guglielmi said, noting that he could not elaborate.

Was just thinking about his description of the attack. If the 2nd assailant was kicking Jussie in the back, does that mean he was on the ground when it happened? He describes tussling with the 1st assailant and then "fighting, fighting, fighting".
I'm assuming since he didn't see it happen the 2nd person has to have put the noose on, right? Also how quickly can rope burn happen and could it be possible to slip a noose on someones neck while they are fighting someone else on the ground? Just had these thoughts as I tried to slip a tshirt over the head of a resistant toddler who decided to lay down to stop me from doing it.

Also was thinking about the idea that the numbers on his phone are so precious he needs to protect them, surely if the police want Taraji P Henson or another celebs number they can get it in easier ways than stealing it from Jussie's phone

Chicago police say the two persons of interest have not been charged with a crime and there is no evidence they’re involved in the physical attack. “We know who they are and have brought them in for questioning” a CPD spokesman said.

Am I to interpret this as these people are not being formally detained for questioning, and have voluntarily traveled to Chicago to answer questions regarding being in the area about the time of the attack?

As the victim stated, "He has no doubt that these two people are the attackers and never did."

With that much proof...the victim's truthful words that no one has a right to question...Why aren't they formally charged yet?

He might have mixed feelings about pressing charges. After they allegedly beat him up, they were apparently nice enough to go back to Subway and get him another sandwich to replace the one he must have dropped during the attack ;)
