There has been very little if anything said by CPD lately. Looks like they want this thing to die down and go away. Out of sight out of mind.

Both are interesting articles. The alleged use of the homeless people as people of interest is insane. I'm glad, although it should have been obvious in the first place that the neighbor "redneck" sighting has been dismissed.
It's always easy to use homeless people badly since they are not important people.

So sick of the hate. All of it. :( moo

I haven't followed this case closely.

Any hate crime perpetrated against anyone for any reason is a tragedy for anyone who has been victimized because of it. Its truly an unforgivable crime.

I have never heard of Jussie before this, but the name of the victim shouldn't matter when seeking justice. It's what is said to have happened to them,
no matter who they are, known well or unknown

Since I've only scanned this thread I have a question please.

Why wouldn't the police want to look at the victim's cell phone? Wasn't he on his phone when the attack happened? Even if they didn't secure it.. couldnt they sit with Jussie as he shows them the specific time of the attack by showing he was in his phone, and for exactly how long?

Maybe I'm missing something though. I do understand he wouldn't want them to see his private contact information or anyone he had called or texted before the time of the attack even happened.

Like I said I've probably missed the explanation given by LE for not looking at his phone.

I dont even understand how the homeless can survive with the weather being so dangerously cold in Chicago.

Yes, many times they are forgotten people, and are often targeted themselves by criminals.

It's very sad.

Eight people have died in Chicago's cold so far, I'm sure the majority were homeless. So many people seem to think they don't even count as human beings. It's so sad.

LE didn't look at his or his manager's phones because the victim and the manager would not let them.

If this alleged crime turns out to be true, I find it to be despicable and disgusting. As a supporter of the President I will be the first to condemn this crime and will hope that persons involved are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, period the end!!!

If on the other hand this turns out to be a hoax and a waist of resources and tax payers monies all persons involved must be charged accordingly and face not only the justice system but the well deserved public out-lash as well.

We are here discussing the information brought to us by LE and the MSM. Are we not to discuss the information found in these sources not faltering to the alleged victim but only those facts that put him in a positive light? I don't believe WS was created to be a celebrity fan website. Doesn't matter if the alleged victim is famous or not. Doesn't mean we cannot discuss all information, negative and positive gained from approved sources.

I don't think so but it was reported in an earlier post with article attached that LE was not going to demand that the victim or victim managers phones be turned over.

ITA!

I think we all are searching for what happened to better understand everything that has been said including all information disclosed from legitimately recognized media sources.

Imo,all of us are here seeking answers, and the conclusion.

If this truly happened to this man the person or persons responsible must be held legally accountable. That is a given. Everyone wants justice to be served for anyone who has been subjected to any crime, and most of all a victim of a hate crime.

We would want that same thing to happen no matter the race, religion or sexual orientation the victim happened to be.

Look at how many hate crimes have been done against Jews simply because they happen to be Jewish people.

All hate crimes are terribly wrong. Hate crime statistics dont really mean anything to the individuals who have been targeted because it happens to individual of all kinds.

Unfortunately, no one category or group of people are immune to being victims of hate crimes.

I'm just here wanting the truth to come forward, and to see it through it's conclusion.

Surely since the police seem to be taking this case very seriously, as they should, when investigating the alleged attack this young man said happened to him they will come forth soon with what their investigation has uncovered.

I don't think so but it was reported in an earlier post with article attached that LE was not going to demand that the victim or victim managers phones be turned over.
Subpoenas have been issued to ensure that phone records from Smollett and his music manager are received. The two claim that they were speaking with each other at the time of the attack and the manager, Brandon Z. Moore, claims he clearly heard racist slurs and “MAGA country” being said.

Tia

No information has been released regarding why the victim and his manager didn't want to hand over their cell phones.
It could be for the same privacy reasons that they had when they requested that the police turn off any recording equipment when they entered the apartment to interview them about the crime.

If CPD wants the help of the public why are they not releasing the surveillance footage of the victim both before and after stopping at Subway?

Would it not be helpful to release this footage, all but the 60 seconds not shown in his return route from Subway to the public. I can't think that every person in the city of Chicago knows who the victim is and would not have recognized him. I personally would have not been able to recognize Oprah if she was appropriately bundled up in that weather.

Maybe releasing the footage will jog someones memory of that night. Maybe someone would recognize the victim by what he was wearing that night and may have noticed someone or two people following him.

‘Empire’ star victim of racist, homophobic attack in Streeterville, police say

This article says he left for something to eat sometime after midnight. That is approx. a 2 hour time frame from the attack. Was he at Subway for this time period? Subway is less than 1/4 mile from his apartment. That is a long time to be milling around in sub zero weather.

CPD was fast to release still photos of two appropriately jacket wearing people walking down the street some 15 minutes or so before the attack happened but has not released footage of the victim either making his way to Subway or returning from Subway.

So in this newly updated article the police have now subpoenaed both the manager and Jussie's cell phone records?

Something had to drastically change for them to first say they weren't going to make him turnover his phone until now.

I truly do want to believe everything he has alleged happened is the God honest truth.

I can't bear the thought he may have purposefully lied about any of his claims knowing it is such a serious claim.

He would already know beforehand making this type of claim and how much it would highly inflame everyone, and could easily incite violence, and harm against innocent people.

How in the world could he even consider doing such a dangerous thing? I pray his claim is true and will be proven to be.

We have already seen the streets become violent over things that were said, and turned out later on to be totally untrue, yet the false story had started it all before waiting for the truth to come forward.

I still cling to the hope that everything he said happened... did happen exactly as he has said.

The alternative is heart shattering to me to even consider. This hurts everyone including those who have really been victims of hate crimes.

Has anyone been protesting and having marches for Jussie? Tia

Heres a link to LE saying they have no reason to not think he's being genuine.
I included the quote from CPD Superintendent Eddie Johnson.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/arts...after-alleged-assault/?utm_term=.9a48d137c320
“He’s a victim right now, and we’ll treat him like a victim," Chicago police superintendent Eddie Johnson told Chicago’s ABC 7 in an interview Friday. “He’s been very cooperative and we have no reason, at this point, to think that he’s not being genuine with us.”

That's just weird. Not turning over evidence is being "very cooperative"? I don't get it.

We can believe that he's a victim and still doubt his recollection of events. Eyewitnesses who see attackers in broad daylight often get details wrong, hair color, clothing, etc. It's entirely possible he believes he saw and heard things that didn't happen. Doesn't mean he's lying, just that in the shock of the moment his perception was skewed.

I'm looking forward to more evidence coming out so we can know what happened with more certainty.

Police said Smollett is cooperating with the investigation. “He’s a victim right now, and we’ll treat him like a victim," Chicago police superintendent Eddie Johnson told Chicago’s ABC 7 in an interview Friday. “He’s been very cooperative and we have no reason, at this point, to think that he’s not being genuine with us.”

“He’s a victim right now, and we’ll treat him like a victim," is the weird comment. "right now"......

I agree...very odd wording by the Superintendent Eddie Johnson.

Another strangely worded statement by Chicago Mayor Rahm Emmanuel is Mayor Rahm Emanuel: "The alleged statement of what happened here is horrific." - CNN

Honestly, I would really like an update from the Chicago Police Department on the status of this investigation. They've remained far too quiet.
The City of Chicago already has a horrible reputation as an unsafe, crime ridden city.

I believe Chicagoans should be informed now if the attack lasted in fact only the 22 seconds he was off camera walking from the corner of New St. and Lower North Water to the next camera at the entrance to the building.

When Matthew Shepherd was killed, it made me think that if you were gay, you would be much safer out of Wyoming. It hasn't changed much since then, sadly.

It would be a mockery to Matthew Shepherd, and so many others, if this is an "alleged" attack.

I used to love to go into the city (Chicago) but it really has to be a big occasion for me to go there now. Too much crime, too costly. The city shakes you down for everything you've got.

You park were it is legal to park but still you get a ticket, you stop at a red light yet you get a ticket for running the light even though the photo they sent you shows you sitting at the light waiting for it to change, cost an arm and a leg to park and so on and so on.

Sadly the appeal of Chicago for myself and many, many people is gone. Lots of folks are moving out to the city. But how I miss some of those restaurants!!!
