“As of yesterday Chicago Police detectives started visiting a series of stores that the white rope, allegedly used in the attack, could have been sold from. Detectives are continuing to do that today.”

Does anyone know if they are just going around to stores in the Streeterville neighborhood or are they expanding to the the whole city of Chicago? If it's the whole city, that could take months!

Since the police reportedly have found more cameras to try to fill in the 60 or less seconds that the victim is off camera, and more tips are coming in...
Do you think this investigation will now last months and that is the reason for the police update which is really not informative in any way?

No, I don't think it will last months. It would be such a misuse of manpower to investigate every camera in the city.

It will probably last as long as it needs to, after all we want justice for Jussie. Meanwhile, we need to be careful not to get the thread shut down. I want to see this one through to the end, whatever that may be, not have a closed thread when the truth comes out, whichever way it goes. Too many threads get shut down before the truth comes out IMO.

Hoping there will be an update from CPD today in regard to the new surveillance video they obtained. With the number of LE assigned to this case they should have already reviewed it all. There has to be some kind of footage that fills in the gap not found in other footage. The victim will finally have definitive proof of the attack.

I'm hoping for an update about the phone records too.

"Here’s the first specific detail we’ve learned about the type of rope found: A police spokesman tells @ABC7Chicago the rope around Smollett’s neck was a type of rope that can be used for clothes lines."

Also from Rob Elgas, ABC News Chicago:
"Detectives have found additional video but it does not show an attack. Wouldn’t say what it shows."

I wish CPD would report if the video found and recently reviewed filled in the gap, the 60 missing seconds of the victims return from Subway or are they still not able to find video covering that gap in time.

That jives with another report that said it looked like 'clothesline straight out of a package'.
CWB Chicago: UPDATE: TV star told cops to turn off their body cameras before taking his hate crime report... More...
I am trying to put myself in the shoes of the perpetrator - can't find rope handy, so I run to the store and get ... clothesline? That's an interesting, sort of nuanced, message IMO.

Update:
"On reports @Chicago_Police subpoenaed #JussieSmollett’s phone records: “CPD News Affairs has no information that subpoenas have been issued. Also, we would not be at liberty to release that information since it’s an ongoing investigation. He is still considered to be a victim”.

Sad story about what the homeless deal with:
Photographer hopes Polar Vortex portrait will draw attention to Chicago's homeless

I can't imagine sitting outside on a bench in that weather if I didn't absolutely have to. Jussie's attackers were certainly determined.
I could barely handle taking the dog out for 2 minutes. It was extremely brutal especially that day when the winds were so high. Don't know how Jussie and the attackers could have been walking around out there that night. That is really a sad article about the homeless. How do they survive???

Pants on fire. Bet on it.

This is the quote that is really puzzling to me.

The CPD also tells Fox News that they are withholding certain information because they want to have “all their ducks in a row” if they open this case up to “interrogations.”

I wonder who they will interrogate? The poor homeless people who were trying to survive that night or ?????
