And let JS have to face all the “little people” who worked on that show who will end up jobless because of his conceit

the show has been tanking for the last five years. JS didnt kill it. It died a slow, natural death. Terrible show, IMO

I'm really starting to wonder what was the point of the revised 16 count indictment by the SA if it wasn't done for nefarious purposes to try and block any future prosecution over this. If they only wanted to give him 16 hours 'volunteer work,' they could have done that with the single indictment they already had. I bet the grand jury spent more time deliberating on bringing 16 felony counts than the time spent by Smollett for his non-plea plea.

JS may be over, and Empire may be over, but Kim Foxx still needs to be investigated for prosecutorial malfeasance

There are many things the City of Chicago along with the County Sheriff's Dept. can do to Jussie via the Production company of Empire, should the decide to keep Smollet. They can pull all tax abatements given the Production company, which would be very costly. They can pull all of the complimentary Sheriff's Deputies and or Police Department security officers for all external shooting scenes and make them pay RETAIL or hire private security. There is more than one reason Production companies are leaving LA to other cities like Chicago. But the main one is MONEY.

JMO
IMO this is wrong. All blame should be on JS. There has been no evidence that the show, production company, other cast or crew has any involvement. Not sure why they should be punished, financially or otherwise.

Kim Foxx welcomes independent investigation of office's handling of Jussie Smollett case

3/29/19

“Since it seems politically expedient right now to question my motives and actions, and those of my office, let me state publicly and clearly that I welcome an outside, nonpolitical review of how we handled this matter,” Foxx wrote. "I am not perfect, nor is any other prosecutor out there, but ensuring that I and my office have our community’s trust is paramount."

For the first time, Foxx indicated that the case against Smollett — which has brought worldwide scrutiny to the Cook County criminal justice system — was not as strong as some might have thought.
{...}
"For a variety of reasons, including public statements made about the evidence in this case, my office believed the likelihood of securing a conviction was not high," Foxx wrote without elaborating.

Foxx did, however, reiterate previous statements that Smollett's claims that he'd been exonerated were "simply wrong."

"He has not been exonerated; he has not been found innocent," Foxx said.

National and state prosecutors’ associations have blasted the Cook County state’s attorney’s office for its handling of the Jussie Smollett case, with an Illinois group saying Kim Foxx “has failed in her most fundamental ethical obligations to the public.”

The Illinois Prosecutors Bar Association said the dismissal of the charges — without any admission of guilt by Smollett — was “an affront to prosecutors across the state” as well as police, victims of hate crimes and the county as a whole.

She has a lot to say for someone who recused herself, when? in February.

"I am not perfect..." the understatement of the week.

I don't know under what mechanism that there could be an outside nonpolitical review. The governor or AG could presumably get involved by appointing someone, but whoever was appointed would be a political appointee. Also it's been clouded with Foxx herself trying to get it handed over to the FBI and further clouded with the mayor saying to keep the feds out. The only sort of similar situation that I know of was with AG Kane in PA where a judge appointed a special prosecutor - which was challenged - and I don't know that such a mechanism exists in Illinois to do similar and whatever judge who did that would face huge scrutiny to prove they had no dog in the fight as well as any special prosecutor appointed by the judge. What she should have done was filed the paperwork to recuse herself as she said she was recusing herself but didn't.

Nigerian brothers' lawyer says they were blindsided by Jussie Smollett decision | Daily Mail Online

The lawyer for the Nigerian brothers caught up in the Jussie Smollett scandal said on Thursday that it was 'atrocious' and 'offensive' for his team to say they were wearing whiteface when they attacked him as she doubled down on their claims that the whole thing was a publicity stunt orchestrated by the Empire actor.

Gloria Schmidt appeared on CNN on Thursday night as the fallout surrounding the case gathered pace and prosecutors faced tough questions over their decision to let Smollett go scot-free.

She revealed that she was just as stunned by the decision as the rest of the world and had been in touch with the State's Attorney's office days beforehand to arrange the brothers' appearances as witnesses at the trial.

Schmidt also slammed Smollett's lawyer Tina Glandian for saying that the brothers could have been wearing whiteface when they attacked him.

It was a bizarre explanation for why Smollett told police in interviewers that one of the assailants had 'pale or white skin'.

Who is representing the brothers now?

Honest question. How does focusing an intense amount of outrage and anger on a rare hoax, not for a day, but for days on end or weeks, help the situation? What does it do to prevent real hate crimes?
I see this as a hate crime and not s hoax. It was an actual hate crime against white men snd against people who wear MAGA hats. It was s hate crime because he pretended they wanted to lynch him for being gay and black

And he continues, still, to pretend this sctually happrned. So his hate crime is ongoing

You don't view trying to frame a race or group for a crime as a hate crime? That racial criminal framing isn't seen as a 'real hate crime,' would seem exactly why to focus on it until it is seen as a real hate crime. Racial targeting shouldn't be dismissed as something that isn't hateful.
Thank you.

Kim Foxx says she welcomes an investigation into her and claims the state's case wasn't watertight | Daily Mail Online
  • Writing in the Chicago Tribune, Foxx insists there’s nothing to hide in the prosecution's decision to suddenly drop all charges against Jussie Smollett
  • Smollett, 36, was accused last month of staging a racist and homophobic attack in a bid to advance his on-screen career
  • Foxx was scrutinized this week after suggesting Smollett didn’t receive special treatment, but he was instead was subjected to ‘alternative prosecution’
  • A leaked email sent to her staff urging them to come up with stories to back up her claims only increased the fanfare
  • Last month, Foxx’s team of prosecutors detailed a multitude of evidence that they said proved definitively that Smollett staged the attack
  • But in her article, Foxx’s says her team’s evidence only helped to debunk ‘portions of Smollett’s claims’ making a prosecution 'uncertain'
  • Despite the high-profile nature of Smollett’s case, Foxx believes the Chicago's prosecutors will better spend their time on more serious crimes

I'd love to hear from a member of the grand jury! Kim Foxx is totally giving them the finger.
