The article by Kim Foxx in the Chicago Tribune is such an own goal. This quote proves he got special treatment because he is well known "[a]s a public figure, Smollett’s alleged unstable actions have probably caused him more harm than any court-ordered penance could."

I would love to know the thinking at the States Attorneys office before they did this, did they think no one would know or care or that it would blow over quickly without repercussions?

In my opinion, they didn't care what anyone would think. I'm seeing the faces of the public/us, being rubbed in the dirt and more filth thrown on top of that. If the public doesn't like it, "let them eat cake". THIS is where "I" think many of our public officials are at these days. "They" will do whatever they want and don't give a crap what "we" think. The Smollett fiasco is just the latest in your face farce.

At least one person (probably a lot more) in the State's Attorney's office wasn't on board with this because I'm assuming someone in the office is leaking this information.

I doubt Foxx went livid or even cared that much. Methinks those who feel they are above the rest of us don't worry about such mundane things. After all, when one says in public, they have "recused" themselves then didn't, hiding behind semantics or whatever, how much caring, guilt, or conscience can they have? Remember, these are the people who RUN things, not you and I. These are the people who have higher friends than you and I.
