Uche: "If Jussie was trying to get this on surveillance … why in the world would he need (the attackers) to yell anything? Surveillance cameras don’t capture audio, so who’s the audience?”
Surely the audience is the manager that Jussie happens to be on the phone with at 2am

Uche: “He’s dumb enough to go into Obama’s city and pretend there’s Trump supporters running around with MAGA hats? Give me a break.”
But aren't they still claiming that with the white/pale person in the ski mask or the person who may have been following the Uber

Uche wrapping up now, saying Smollett "lived his life (as) somebody who gives money to charity. "The brothers take, take, take, take, take."

"The brothers were in an interrogation room for nearly two days, and had the chance to speak with each other, Uche says -- indicating, basically, they had a chance to get their stories straight.'

Defense had every opportunity to ask their "christmas wishlist" of questions during cross.

Uche: "This case is crazy. And there a lot that has been said, a lot of assumptions. And it’s been real tough. You have the power. You are the ones to decide whether this makes sense."

Uche showing jurors a "Christmas wishlist" of questions he wishes had been answered. I copied it down for ya:

Uche: "The only principle in this courthouse is the presumption of innocence ... If you believe in that, I need constitutional warriors in that jury room."

Nenye closes: "I want to say thank you for your time. It’s December, I want to wish you a merry Christmas, and I ask you, please be strong.”

The defense attorneys had ever opportunity to get their "christmas wishlist" of questions asked on cross.

Prosecutor Samuel Mendenhall beginning rebuttal.

"Mendenhall calls the defense assertion that there was a rush to judgment "nonsense." 24-26 officers, 3000 manhours, etc. "The Chicago Police Dept should be commended for the effort they put in … This would be a much better city if that’s a “rush to judgment.'"

"Smollett never told responding cops what he told the jury this week, ie, that he had taken the rope off his neck, then put it back on before they arrived, Mendenhall said. On body cam "Mr. Smollett said 'I kept the rope on because I wanted you to see it.'"

"Regarding the eggs ... Mendenhall pointing out that the meal plan Smollett was supposed to be following had breakfast scheduled for noon. "Why did he have to go out at 2 am? Sleep in, go to Walgreens … they’re open well before noon, you go at 10:00 and get eggs."

Jussie was on the phone to someone. Who initiated that call?
I have always wondered if he initiated a call to his manager so his manager could be a remote "witness" to the staged attack. Because when JS finally (after two weeks) handed over heavily redacted PDF version of phone records, his manager did as well per this snip from article at the time:

Police said earlier in the investigation that Smollett was hesitant to report the crime but his manager convinced him to. Both Smollett and his manager told police they could not be away from their phones for prolonged periods of time, so they refused to give the devices over to police, Guglielmi.
‘Empire' Star's Rep. Releases Statement on Redacted Phone Records Given to Police

I wonder if he still has the same manager after all this or if his manager distanced and removed himself after the hoax came to light?

"The defense took pains to paint both brothers as criminals but there is no evidence that Abel Osundairo has a criminal history, Mendenhall said. "Dragging a man’s name through the mud, call him a criminal, without any truth whatsoever!"

"Mendenhall notes that Uche referred to "a fellow Nigerian" (that is, Abimbola) as a criminal, a scammer, a drug dealer. "A fellow Nigerian!" (Uche told jurors repeatedly today that he is also of Nigerian descent.) "

"Mendenhall hitting on the defense's hints that Abimbola might be some kind of self-hating gay man. "He’s heterosexual but even if he wasn’t … he should be a proud Black gay man just as Mr. Smollett is. We don’t weaponize that here. We don’t do that here."

"And Ola, who does have a felony record, turned his life around and got three college degrees, Mendenhall said. "Our system would be a lot better if the young brothers who get in trouble turn around and get three degrees instead of going back into the system," he says. "

"Defense wanted to portray the brothers' house as a trap house, in part bc there was a bunch of bleach in there. Mendenhall: "Newsflash, I suspect everyone who is in here has bleach in their house. I always thought bleach was a good thing."

"Mendenhall telling jurors which exhibit numbers were assigned to each of the brothers' phones, so they can cross-check the records for themselves to see if they were in fact on the phone at the time. He says they will see absolutely no activity. "

"And the Uber driver said he assumed one brother was on the phone at the time, but did not actually see a phone, Mendenhall reiterating."

"Watch that entire video," Mendenhall tells jurors, saying they will not see some mystery third accomplice of any race or either brother on the phone. "You will only see the two of them, by themselves, trying to keep a promise to (Smollett)."

"Mendenhall reminding jurors that Ola, the alleged homophobe, worked in the gay pride parade and in Boystown. "How do you hate gay people and go in the gay pride parade? How do you hate meat and work at a butcher shop? How do you hate Christians and work at a church?"

"It seems Mendenhall was about to give a backstory for Ola's texts using words like "fruit" and "gaylord." He managed to get in something along the lines of, a man using a woman's photos to text Ola. the defense objects STRENUOUSLY. Now they're in sidebar. "

"The sidebar is over, and Mendenhall does not continue with the story. So there's that. "

"If you really needed illegal Nigerian steroids, Mendenhall says, "why couldn’t you just pick up the phone and call? … how do you need a face to face meeting for that, versus a face to face meeting to plan to stage a hate crime?"

"Once again, jurors are seeing the photos of the Osundairo brothers shirtless. "If we don’t agree on anything, I promise you the defense and I agree, both of these guys know a little something about working out."

"Abimbola is a boxer, one of the best in Chicago, and ranked No. 4 in his weight class nationwide, Mendenhall says. The implication being, if his attack on Smollett was real, Smollett would have been WAY more messed up than he was "

https://twitter.com/jmetr22b
"Mendenhall bringing up Abimbola's boxing career, says he's No. 4 in the U.S. in his weight class and knocked an opponent out of the ring in the Chicago Golden Gloves. If Smollett "really got punched" by him, what would've happened? "

Defense attorney Heather Widell is now telling Judge Linn that one juror told a deputy he can't stay past 5:15 pm since he has to go to a concert for his child ... the defense wants an alternate impaneled instead so that deliberations aren't rushed.

Apparently this all happened at some point earlier today, and Judge Linn questioned him on the record in chambers. The juror said he'd have no problem coming back tomorrow if they don't reach a verdict this evening, according to Linn.

This may have been raised yesterday? Unclear! Anyway, Judge Linn: "If they need more time than we’re able to give them today, they’ll come back tomorrow morning."
