There is going to be much more to this story. Much.
Kids internalize things too. From what I saw the stepdad do to a baby I have no sympathy for that man.I agree. I think it's true that almost all psychopaths were abused or experienced trauma of some sort but most kids who were abused absolutely do not become psychopaths or sociopathic.
I agree though with @mickey2942 that kids who act out in a violent manner usually come from intense dysfunction.
Mom of 9-year-old charged in deadly fire breaks her silence
Oh... i just can't with the Mother. I must sit on my hands.
Ita.There is going to be much more to this story. Much.
Per step-father's relative, the boy was jealous of the younger siblings. Wasn't also the best behaved child either.
"For instance, she says, he sometimes treated his mother badly, even biting her. This happened even after the couple moved out with the boy and eventually had two children together. The cause, she says, sometimes seemed to be jealousy, after the births of his half siblings."

bbmIs it cold enough there to have a furnace on already?
What a horrific tragedy.
The mother states the boy has profound mental illness. He has certainly proven he is a threat to society. I am unclear as to what the state could/would do to insure the public is safe once his five year probation is over. Given the extent of the mental disability his mother described and severity of his crime, it seems the state should appoint someone to monitor and his threat status, and make recommendations to the court system.
Amateur opinion and speculation
Can you really commit a 9 year old? Right now he is living with a relative somewhere.Mom could have him voluntarily committed. But the state would have to agree to pay for it. Kid needs major help. More than "counseling" IMO.
Oh who knows. The 2 year old might not be toilet trained yet, maybe she needed an extra bath.

The only logical reason I could come up with is if the 2 yr old had been sleeping for awhile already, and maybe had a very dirty diaper, or threw up in her sleep or something. When things like that happen with a toddler, it is easier to draw a bath and clean them that way. Most toddlers even the more hyperactive ones are asleep by then.
I thought that was weird.
Yes. Children can be and are hospitalized in this country for mental health issues.
They can also be sent to rehabilitative facilities.
I would agree -- children in any type family have limited control over things at home, simply because they are young and inexperienced and need supervision, guidance, love, etc.Agree- Good post.
I used to have a family that lived near me who
had two adopted children, girl and boy.
The young boy would get whipped/beaten whenever the father was around. We heard his
screams all the time. The boy started huffing
from aerosol cans in the woods nearby and
then he started setting fires. I spoke to another neighbor who lived closer to the family and
suggested we notify authorities of possible
abuse. She wouldn't get involved because she
was afraid of the father. She said she had to live there and didn't want retaliation.
I called the authorities but it was anonymously
so I never heard if anything was done.
I always thought the boy's acting out was due
to the abuse he received at home.
I am trying to figure out WHERE the boy could have started the fire. Mom says that she was in her room, getting ready to take as bath, when she smelled something like chemicals in the air.I'm thinking he lit the place on fire and the fire hit the furnace?
Yeah that's the least of my concerns with this horrible case.
Agreed on that. The only logical reason I could come up with is if the 2 yr old had been sleeping for awhile already, and maybe had a very dirty diaper, or threw up in her sleep or something. When things like that happen with a toddler, it is easier to draw a bath and clean them that way.
One Picture is Worth a Thousand Words. Extrapolate. At first they didn't all show up for me either. Then it said 'download all' option and I clicked, then a bunch more came up.
