When CPD had their press conference for Garfield Doe, the commander was careful to say that they didn't know how he died, that perhaps there was an accident and as the dismemberment was done post mortem maybe it was done just to conceal. I think that's why they are saying "death" as opposed to "murder".

I think it's a common police tactic to get people to admit their involvement too, to be honest. "Oh, we're sure you didn't *mean* to do it, you're not a monster, it was probably just an accident. Now just tell us your side of the story so we can get to the bottom of all this."

I thought the same think about D calling the police too... If they'd all kept quiet then no one would know Kyrian was missing even now and they might have gotten away with it. So why call the police if you're in on it?

13 News spoke with his mother, Lanisha Knox, over the phone after it was made public. She sounded devastated as she could barely get through her short conversation with us.

http://www.wrex.com/story/30441355/2015/11/04/timeline-of-kyrian-knox-case

__

Knox said she made repeated attempts in early September to go to Rockford to pick Kyrian up, but the family who was watching him always made an excuse about why it wasn’t good timing

Naron Harris, the boy’s great-uncle, held up a white t-shirt with Kyrian Knox’s picture on it in the dim yellow glow of the streetlight at the family’s West Side home. “It’s a bad situation,” he said. “It’s a bad situation.”

She has to have some culpability in this, why was he at some other persons house? Where was she in all this?

OK, I'm not one for adding new laws. But we need a new law, one that holds responsible the person that decides to keep a child or care for a child. The person responsible for a child is responsible for knowing where the child is at all times. Responsible for medical, shelter, clothing..all those things that go with CARING for a child. Maybe different levels of neglect or abuse, I don't know. But when a child is missing, and is later found dead.

Regardless of whom murdered a child, a mother is responsible for her child. That includes making certain the child is safe. I want to see the murderer and/or mother held responsible for the welfare of little Kyrian. In my opinion, even if a mother places her child in the care of a sitter, she still has responsibility. I don't care after the fact about tears, I care about responsibility DURING the child's life. Children and babies have rights too.

The amount of time this baby boy had spent in childcare is not acceptable to me.

I am mad.
I agree the mom needs some culpability. And charges brought since she dropped him off to begin with.

I read this earlier but didn't take note of the link to post here, I'm glad someone did, thank you JerseyGirl!

There won't be a difference in the level of investigation due to this classification will there? It seems messed up to not treat it as a murder inquiry right now. Even when there's no body at all you can have a murder investigation, yet here there's a body that's been dismembered and part of the reason there's no COD yet is that not all the body has been recovered!
It could have been an accident or natural, unless they can determine COD not sure if they can say someone was murdered until then. It would stink to say he was murdered they arrest someone and then it is determined the child died of natural causes and ruined a persons reputation with a murder rap when it wasnt true.

Has anyone read anything about the statement being made? I haven't been able to find anything.

"I don't know if he was deceased already when they cut my grandbaby up, but it's a crime scene somewhere," Cameshia Harris said as close friends and family surrounded her. "Somebody had to see them. ... Somebody had to see something. Please call the Chicago Police Department."

"We are angry and betrayed," said Jackie Martin, Kyrian's cousin. "I feel what happened to that baby shouldn't have happened."

Chicago police are still awaiting results from the Cook County medical examiner's office to determine how the boy died. "Once we get a cause of death, the investigation could change." "If he was killed, it's a murder investigation. Right now we're investigating it as a death."

My guess as to why the call to police that particular day is that maternal grandma was getting fed up with no contact with the baby and lack of info from mom. LK shared it with roommate, and those involved knew she (Grandma) was about to make some noise about it. Hence, "Somebody picked up KK weeks ago....they said they were YOUR family." ?

OK, during the press conference it was stated that the Harris family brought Kyrian to Chicago from Rockford on the 28th. I wonder how they know this? Someone is talking...

And where is Mom? Is she detained? Why wasn't she present? My head is spinning here.

This is the worst I've followed. And I am way over emotionally invested. :( reading about him being in Omaha just took it to another level for me today, that's my hometown, my whole family is there. I know that's silly, but still.

I just watched the news.

I'm glad someone is speaking out for him.

But my god.

Where. Is. His. Mama.

I have a feeling Mom might be speaking with LE. She was conspicuously missing from the family press conference. Just a hunch although perhaps she just couldn't bear to give an interview.

Kyrian Knox's family is blaming the last two people they say was seen with their son: Kamel Harris and Danyelle Foggs.

The family is calling the two heartless.

Lanisha Knox, Kyrian's mother, says she dropped her son off with Shakela Harris, Kamel's daughter, because of day care problems in Chicago.

The family says police told them that Harris and Foggs left the toddler with two people, whose names were made up.

They also say Shakela knew about Kyrian's disappearance, but did not report it to police.

Am I the only one ready to pull my hair out? First story, Lanisha and Shakela drop Ky off with Harris, then a report Harris picked the boys up, now Lanisha dropped Ky off with Shakela?

"They believe that someone specifically knows whether or not the toddle was dismembered before he was dumped in the Garfield Park lagoon."

Nevermind that they left the r off of toddler. Does anyone really think he was dismembered AFTER he was dumped in the lagoon?

WHAT!!!!!! A chopped up baby body in a lagoon in a park with all sorts of sketchiness surrounding his disappearance and they treat it as just a death?!!! WHAT!!!!???? I'm furious! I understand not being able to determine COD, but that doesn't negate the fact that he was dismembered! Do they think he fell in the lagoon and an alligator got to him?! Puh- leeze! I'm flabbergasted!!!
