The reason the video was turned over to Homeland Security was stated to be that the
Fox Lake PD doesn't have sufficiently capable equipment to get the best images/results.

With only one murder since 1984 the reason makes sense imo.
Remember Fox Lake is considered a small town.

Chief George Filenko and another guy (Detective Cavelli?)just stumbled their way through a live interview with Pam Brown on CNN.

George said that the new video was from a homeowner who is a police officer. Therefore, the police officer viewed it and they relied on his judgement that it was significant. The other guy said that the video was from a homeowner who gave it to the policeman. Hard to make heads or tails from that information, much less try to retell it accurately. Apologies if I got it all wrong.

Rollins Road near the crime scene is MUCH different than the Gateway area, which is several miles to the east. That project is just wrapping up, but this area is much less congested. At that time of morning, there would be some light commuter traffic, mixed in with a good number of busses for local schools. The high school was already in session, but the elementary schools were likely still bussing in.

Not knowing much about the truck driver and potential video provided, would it make sense the truck might have been traveling down the section of Rollins Road in question?

CNN right now....Local LE is still waiting for Homeland security to let them see the video. An officer who knew of the truck driver video said that it was significant, which is why local LE is calling it (unseen) "significant." Supposedly it shows what was reported to be 2 white 1 black person. We shall see. JMO

Last I knew it was a fishing/beachy/boating bar town. More of a blue collar type town.
It comes alive when weather is good due to boating along the Fox River that leads into lakes that provide recreation for families and young people.
It isn't a resort community or fancy more of a casual, fun atmosphere iirc.

feelin mushy love ya all this is such an interesting place!! Its just a bright group - I had trouble in the beginning - I have gone (no more) to other similiar places and in reality its like on those places like You Tube comments nasty stuff - why go online to do that.

The comment was odd but the news station did the editing.
The restaurant owner probably ordered the beer months ago and now this happened.
He's been in business for a long, long time and relies on Labor Day weekend for a last boost to his business which more than likely takes a hit once boating season is over.

After thinking about it, my heart goes out to him. But why did the editor emphasize the point in the piece. Kind of jerky imo. Actually the comment was dubbed over iirc - the owner didn't utter those exact words.

My first thought, after hearing initial reports, was that the officer found the three to be suspicious because he thought that they were attempting a break-in of someones summer home. But then I wondered why on earth, after 32 years of training and service, would he chase three potential robbers on foot, by himself??? JMO

How would anyone know if what they say is true or not?
Hope it didn't sound like I was harsh with you personally.
I was surprised by the claim and haven't heard the statement myself or I glossed over it.

Keep in mind I haven't been to Fox Lake since, well, a long time ago. Still, although I'm sure a lot has changed, no one has mentioned to me the area is considered upscale now.

I really really hopethat this does not turn into a suicide, but as of this evening nothing debunks the possibility. It just seems impossible that he would be looking forward to retirement and DO that! And ditch his wife and kids? She is devastated. Says he was her soulmate. I hope that he truly was. Meanwhile, are there a lot of black people in this so-called upscale community? I really hope again, that he was not trying to make a statement or prove a point. I presume that his wife knows how he felt about policing, retirement etc. Everything seems to suggest that he was a wonderful husband, father and cop. I hope that is true.

I haven't seen one thing that even make me think it was a suicide. Everything points to this being a cruel cold blooded homicide.

Why would a 32 year veteran who was extremely well liked in his community commit suicide when he was planning to retire at the end of this month?

By taking his own life and putting his family through all of this? I don't think I have ever been so puzzled when trying to figure out what all this post means? Prove a point? What point? Has anyone reported this officer isn't what everyone else has said he was which is he was a wonderful dedicated officer and very active in his community.

Sorry I am just shocked by your post and truly don't understand any of it especially based on all we have heard about this slain officer. I haven't heard anyone say this man was suicidal, vindictive or whatever. Much to the contrary. There were people of all races at his vigil so what does blacks living in the neighborhood have anything to do with it? There are two white guys and a black male they are looking for so what point was he trying to prove?

Sorry, for all the questions. Cady but I am honestly trying to understand where you are heading with all of this. If I don't ask then I don't know.

In a Windows OS, they have a Help section that will walk you right through it.

Fox Lake PD hasn't handled murders (like Chicago PD does on a daily basis) especially the murder of one of their own.

Plus cubby has posted a few recent political happenings within the town.
Who knows what's going on or if these are coincidences.
The detectives and everyone are just human and sleep deprived too I bet.

Ocean: as I said, I really hope that a sneaking suspicion I have is WRONG. Perhaps suicide can be discounted as early as tonight. I truly hope that the new "significant" video will debunk any other possibility about the officers death. I want to know exactly what happened. So far, LE has been less than informative about key facts of this case. The fact that they cannot relieve the fears of that town by being forthright about what they do and do not know, must be torturous to the good citizens of Fox Lake. If the homeowner can view it he or she can't let LE watch it on the same system? Or is the homeowner also unable to view the recording? How hard is it to pull off the hard drive? If they did have to send it to DHS for viewing wouldn't it be like a huge priority?

I don't know. It doesn't make sense. Why are they stalling? Whatever is or isn't on there must be very big.
