This is the first I have heard that anyone "close to the investigation" characterized his death as an execution by police! ????? What is going on? JMO
Characterized by police as an execution-style death.

It was poor wording.

Update on Marlboro cig packs pic.
According to ABC News the photo was from 2007.

It was a misplaced modifier. Journalists today can not write.
They meant it was characterized by police as an execution style....

Perhaps that's just bad writing -- and what they mean is that police characterized it as an execution. We are talking about Fox News, after all.

LOL OHHH I get it.....it should have read which police originally characterized as an execution. JMO

I'm very pleased at all the smart ideas that are written up on this forum. Nothing really was making sense to me, and when I saw a suicide thought being posted, I remember even getting up and telling my husband. Slowly it was making sense, and I wouldn't have thought about that at that point in time if I didn't read it here. I've seen some "out there theories" over the years, but would never make fun or even suggest it was "out there." I get an idea right from the start, and I need to be prodded to think outside the little box I'm in. I was convinced these three were high school students, CG knew them, hence no fear, and approached them without wanting help at first. I know it isn't deemed a Suicide yet by the authorities, but it is just adding up to that for me, and for others.

JMO I thought that the high school kids idea was a quite viable one, too....but I expected that it wouldn't be long before that came to light, because of attendance records, chatter, and parents. But nothing. JMO

Officials have released little information to the public regarding the shooting. Gliniewicz's gun was recovered at the scene, but Filenko would not say if it was the weapon used to shoot him. Investigators also have refused to release key details regarding where the bullets struck the veteran officer, how many were fired from the weapon, whether he was wearing a bulletproof vest, and whether any footprints were recovered that could show the way the suspects may have escaped.

Last week, Rudd said Gliniewicz died from a "devastating" gunshot wound but refused to say publicly how many times he was shot. He later said the fatal shot was to the torso, but he explained that he released the information to combat rumors the lieutenant was shot in the head and neck.

Other media reports quoting unnamed sources have said two bullets were fired at Gliniewicz, with one hitting the officer's bulletproof vest. They added the fatal bullet hit him in the upper torso and traveled in a downward motion.

Here is my attempt at posting a few pics of Joe from his FB from back in September of last year. It appears that this occurred shortly after him doing the race in Hawaii. Someone wished him luck with the arm and heal quickly, which makes me think surgery. But the way the scars look, I am thinking injury. I am not a doctor, but it also appears that there is an older scar as well, but not sure.

Not sure what I am thinking is the nature of the injury or surgery at this point. Was just wondering if it might have something that happened in the line of duty, or if it caused him ongoing issues. Obviously he did the race just prior and looked amazing!

That said, there has been a lot of talk about how physically fit he was, but just wondering if the injury may have caused him to be less capable of defending himself or anything like that.

Still having a difficult time with the suicide angle. He just appears to be such a level headed, likable guy with a sense of humor. If he was having that many financial difficulties, a trip to Hawaii for a race wouldn't seem logical, and he seems extremely logical.

Again...none of this is making any sense at all.

In my opinion, I can't suspect that the police did any sort of deliberate coverup of a suicide. If I were them, I would have turned over every stone to get after someone who shot Lt. Gliniewicz. I would not have quickly ruled it a suicide. And that's what they did.

I'm actually grateful that they did. By putting so many resources into locating a killer, and finding no evidence, we were able to address the suicide notion. Had they only sent a dozen troops into the scene as opposed to over 400, there would be less opportunity to question what actually really happened.

Thanks for the pics. Might have cut the muscle requiring immobilization.

I am assuming he was right handed based on other pictures and the side he carried his firearm on and he was cleared for duty.....

I think money was probably only part of the suicide. I wonder if was terminally ill combined with his life changing so dramatically. Many men do not cope with retirement well.

What is the assertion that he was terminally ill based on?

The interesting thing is Gliniewicz probably understood that police often assume a scene is a suicide and later realize it was homicide and have lost valuable forensics.

There are training techniques for police not to assume a gunshot to the head is suicide. To preserve the scene as a crime etc.... but we all have seen time and time again where police don't follow these standards and then crimes are harder to solve because of police assumptions.

In this case despite him laying on his stomach, shot in torso and most likely stippling they ran with homicide based on his call and him being police.

So it makes me think even more he made it look like homicide because they would knee jerk suicide like they do in most cases like this without the call of suspects.

Just trying to figure out what would be the motivating factor for a seemingly healthy 52 year old man who seemed to be well loved and a happy family would commit suicide. Financial difficulties alone seems an odd choice for someone with the earning potential he still had.

From the article some pretty powerful statements from his grieving family:

"The son of Fox Lake police Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz threw his full support behind Lake County investigators and their two-week effort to catch three suspects sought in the veteran police officer's shooting death, but he says emphatically that his dad didn't die at his own hand.

"My father never once had a single suicidal thought in his life," Donald "D.J." Gliniewicz said Tuesday.

The younger Gliniewicz said his family is upset over questions raised by Lake County Coroner Dr. Thomas Rudd about whether "Joe" Gliniewicz died from anything other than a homicide, and the unauthorized release of information in the case.

"For someone who didn't know him to go out and question that, then also release information that could jeopardize the investigation ... my entire family isn't happy," he said.

D.J. Gliniewicz said he expects the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force to "take their time to do it right" while trying to determine who gunned down his 52-year-old father."

"I know they are doing their hardest to get to the bottom of this," D.J. Gliniewicz said. "I definitely do not want them to speed through the investigation and skip over important details."

Exactly! I think illness makes more sense. Die from disease and wife gets nothing but standard death benefits after stressfull and maybe expensive medical or die on duty and wife gets money?

Just based on he was a long term smoker. Nothing but ideas of why a man would commit suicide on duty shortly before retirement.

Do we know he was still smoking? The marlboro pack picture was apparently from 2007. Wouldn't his wife and kids know if he was terminally ill?
