CPD hard at work. And this is with a mayor is arguably trying to hold them accountable for something. IMO

''Lenora Dennis joins Lisa Dent to explain how she witnessed the attack and robbery of a couple over the weekend on Wabash Avenue, and how she eventually had to step in to save them from the unruly crowd. Lenora, also describes her desperate attempts to get help from Chicago police that ultimately failed.''

Good Samaritan Lenora Dennis helped a couple who was beaten, and robbed by mob during downtown chaos. (via WGN-TV)

''Garrison-Johnson said he suffered multiple injuries to his body and face after he was jumped by the mob, while the couple shared the harrowing details of how their phones, shoes and Apple Watch were stolen.

Their ordeal could have been worse, the couple said, if not for the aid of Dennis, who came to the rescue despite having never met the couple before. According to Knutson and Garrison-Johnson, Dennis ran up to the mob of people screaming for them to stop the attack and eventually pulled them out of the crowd and gave them shoes and money before driving them to the police station.''

Ive seen the footage of the young woman getting attacked and it was frightening.
The Illinois Restaurant Association is not happy and wants to meet with city leaders to find some sort of workable plan.

The CPD says that they actively review social media and that they will step up resources when they identify target areas

The mayor has offered that many teens were out due to the nice weather but a few came with different agenda's.
She also tweeted

the state senator said this

and the mayor elect said

The abc article is really good and worth a read.
In the meantime I'm really hoping that there is an answer to be found to eliminate this type of behavior for the residents of Chicago.
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/i...ng-looting-its-a-mass-protest/ar-AA19Y5gknine adults and six juveniles in connection to the riot.
That is a good article. Here is a quote from the alderman.

"You need to call it out for what it is. You can't sugarcoat this, and you can't make excuses for that behavior. You need to hold them and their parents accountable for this, and use everything that's in our toolbox to identify who they are, and take the appropriate action, so that we don't have this going on all summer long."

It's sad. Chicago used to have fun music venues, great restaurants... and, of course, Garrett's Popcorn (thank goodness they have mail order).
We used to get season's tickets to the Lyric and the Shakespeare theater every year. Trips to Lincoln Zoo. Air shows. Meant multiple trips into the city, shopping, restaurants, Navy Pier, etc... Last time was a few years ago, when our car was jumped on by a crazed man screaming and yelling at who knows who and what. We no longer go into the city. For anything.

Visitors can expect tighter security at Millennium Park, with fences are up to slow down entry into the popular tourist attraction.

The metal barricades will be coupled with a curfew that bars teens under the age of 18 from the park after 6 p.m. Thursday through Sunday without an adult over the age of 21.
...
Parents can sign up for alerts by texting "chicagokids" to 21000.

"You get a text message, they look at their phone, they see the text, 'Uh oh, something going on, let me call my kids and find out where they are at,'" Walker said.

<modsnip - quoted post was political commentary>
AND - on top of that, parents trying to discipline their children themselves? Hold them accountable? Undermined by a legal system that does not prosecute, does not enforce, and often does not even notice. Gangs run rampant and parents have no power to stop them, nor their influence on their children.

would like to know how many of these 'kids" (are they actually adults?) have no or single parents who are struggling themselves and are disengaed. Even kids with good parents and lots of resources get rebellious from about 14-21, IMO. if they dropped out of school and do not want to get a job, is anybodysurprised?

These kids don’t want that, and they have no supervision, which is why they’re out at all hours, speeding down Michigan Ave on dirt bikes and ATV’s at all hours.

13 year olds hijacking cars with guns. Robbing stores, and things like this.

It’s going to be a long bloody summer here in Chicago, and this stuff won’t help but cause a distraction and more.
They need to start throwing their parents in jail. Imo.

''CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago police are working to prevent a repeat of last weekend's unruly crowds.

All around Millennium Park, fencing, barricades and a sign reminding visitors of a curfew in place for teenagers without an adult.

It's all in an effort to combat unruly, violent young crowds like this one, that took over the downtown area last weekend, with teens jumping on cars, beating up others, dancing on CTA buses, and even shooting.''

''This weekend's cooler weather may be a deterrent to large crowds gathering, either way, city officials say they will be ready.

If large crowds to appear downtown, CTA shuttle buses will be made available to transport teenagers out of the downtown area.

A group of activists led by "I'm Telling, Don't Shoot" CEO Early Walker unveiling a new initiative designed to inform parents when large potentially dangerous gatherings of teenagers are taking place.''

That is sad. Chicago used to be so much fun, with the best museums in the world. I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to visit those places, years ago.

Last time I was in Chicago, it was at Union Station for an Amtrak transfer. We were in a separate lounge waiting area, with free food and drinks. The staff at the lounge recommended that we just "stay put" until our train came.

That is what people who live in the area, tell people who are visiting. Just stay in the guarded lounge area.

Well, I'd say both parents and teens need help. Victims of crime and domestic violence- Brandon Johnson has spoke of creating new Trauma Recovery Centers to address and help them. Chicago is enduring a mental health crisis right now and he wants to reopen all 14 mental health centers.

His plans sound good: Brandon Johnson for Mayor of Chicago

Mental health centers? Who is going to provide these services? My assumption is that they will want to hire qualified staff, most of whom live in suburbs of Chicago, and more than likely have very little in common with their clients. My opinion is that it would be an epic disaster. A masters degree in social work is not a magic wand.

IMO, this 'teen takeover' has been brewing for some time. The lack of charging/ prosecuting of all crimes, let alone the slaps on the wrists of juveniles has led to an increase in wild like behaviors, in Chicago as well as other cities.

This happened just the week before the 'teen takeover'. Two juveniles were charged with misdemeanors....and a baby is dead. Because they wanted a joy ride.

6-month-old killed, 3 others injured when stolen car crashes into pickup in Chicago's West Garfield Park

A 14 and 17-year-old boy were charged with possessing a stolen vehicle.

All of them will be publicly run, so my guess is the City itself will provide those services.

Yup, it’s the new reality. Fortunately it’s much cooler this weekend, so I don’t think we’ll have anything like last weekend tonight. Give it a couple weeks though…

I wonder who is paying for the repair of property damages caused by these mobs when the DNC convention rolls around next year?? Sure won't be these people causing the damage.

Maybe those masses of people destroying property are just excitedly preparing for the DNC Convention next year?

Oh god, that’s going to be a nightmare. But it won’t be the kids, it’ll be their parents.

The city will fund it, but they still have to hire staff. The mayor isn't going to be doing trauma therapy.

And then add in the disruption from the NASCAR race this summer.

I have lived here most of my life and disagree about the safety of Union Station. Amtrak is in Union Station as well as the Metra Trains to the suburbs. I have never felt unsafe in Union Station. At the same time, I would not be wandering around outside of the station late at night. I would not hesitate to go to Lincoln Park Zoo. LP is at least two miles north of the Loop.

The current violence, isn't affecting all areas of Chicago. The violence has been occurring at night in an area referred to as 'The Loop'. It is roughly the business center of the city, as well as some of the high end shopping. The Loop is an area defined by the convergence of the EL trains (Elevated Trains - you see them in most movies shot in Chicago). It is no coincidence some of the El Trains connect some of the worst areas of the city to the Loop area. Add to the Loop - Millennium Park and Grant Park which are directly east of the Loop. I wouldn't hesitate to be there during the day, but right now I would not go there on a weekend night.

The current violence started with the Pandemic in 2020. The Loop, once a bustling place became somewhat deserted and the violence moved in. Summers are the worst. Again, I would not hesitate to go there in daylight hours.

IMO there is an ugly battle coming between the new Chicago Mayor and the Police Union and it will not end well for anyone.

Completely JMO, MOO and Etc.
