CPD hard at work. And this is with a mayor is arguably trying to hold them accountable for something. IMO

That is a good article. Here is a quote from the alderman.Ive seen the footage of the young woman getting attacked and it was frightening.
The Illinois Restaurant Association is not happy and wants to meet with city leaders to find some sort of workable plan.
The CPD says that they actively review social media and that they will step up resources when they identify target areas
The mayor has offered that many teens were out due to the nice weather but a few came with different agenda's.
She also tweeted
the state senator said this
and the mayor elect said
The abc article is really good and worth a read.
In the meantime I'm really hoping that there is an answer to be found to eliminate this type of behavior for the residents of Chicago.

Unruly crowds 'unacceptable,' but don't 'demonize youth': Brandon Johnson, Chicago mayor-elect
A curfew and bag checks at beaches will be enforced after two large gatherings ended in violence in Chicago, police said.abc7chicago.com
We used to get season's tickets to the Lyric and the Shakespeare theater every year. Trips to Lincoln Zoo. Air shows. Meant multiple trips into the city, shopping, restaurants, Navy Pier, etc... Last time was a few years ago, when our car was jumped on by a crazed man screaming and yelling at who knows who and what. We no longer go into the city. For anything. It's sad. Chicago used to have fun music venues, great restaurants... and, of course, Garrett's Popcorn (thank goodness they have mail order).
would like to know how many of these 'kids" (are they actually adults?) have no or single parents who are struggling themselves and are disengaed. Even kids with good parents and lots of resources get rebellious from about 14-21, IMO. if they dropped out of school and do not want to get a job, is anybodysurprised?AND - on top of that, parents trying to discipline their children themselves? Hold them accountable? Undermined by a legal system that does not prosecute, does not enforce, and often does not even notice. Gangs run rampant and parents have no power to stop them, nor their influence on their children.
They need to start throwing their parents in jail. Imo.These kids don’t want that, and they have no supervision, which is why they’re out at all hours, speeding down Michigan Ave on dirt bikes and ATV’s at all hours.
13 year olds hijacking cars with guns. Robbing stores, and things like this.
It’s going to be a long bloody summer here in Chicago, and this stuff won’t help but cause a distraction and more.

Well, I'd say both parents and teens need help. Victims of crime and domestic violence- Brandon Johnson has spoke of creating new Trauma Recovery Centers to address and help them. Chicago is enduring a mental health crisis right now and he wants to reopen all 14 mental health centers.
His plans sound good: Brandon Johnson for Mayor of Chicago
All of them will be publicly run, so my guess is the City itself will provide those services.Mental health centers? Who is going to provide these services? My assumption is that they will want to hire qualified staff, most of whom live in suburbs of Chicago, and more than likely have very little in common with their clients. My opinion is that it would be an epic disaster. A masters degree in social work is not a magic wand.
Yup, it’s the new reality. Fortunately it’s much cooler this weekend, so I don’t think we’ll have anything like last weekend tonight. Give it a couple weeks though…IMO, this 'teen takeover' has been brewing for some time. The lack of charging/ prosecuting of all crimes, let alone the slaps on the wrists of juveniles has led to an increase in wild like behaviors, in Chicago as well as other cities.
This happened just the week before the 'teen takeover'. Two juveniles were charged with misdemeanors....and a baby is dead. Because they wanted a joy ride.

"The baby wasn't breathing, so we started doing CPR," said Shawn Walker, who rushed to help. “My main thing was so we could get a pulse back into the baby."www.fox32chicago.com
Oh god, that’s going to be a nightmare. But it won’t be the kids, it’ll be their parents.Maybe those masses of people destroying property are just excitedly preparing for the DNC Convention next year?

And then add in the disruption from the NASCAR race this summer. These kids don’t want that, and they have no supervision, which is why they’re out at all hours, speeding down Michigan Ave on dirt bikes and ATV’s at all hours.

I have lived here most of my life and disagree about the safety of Union Station. Amtrak is in Union Station as well as the Metra Trains to the suburbs. I have never felt unsafe in Union Station. At the same time, I would not be wandering around outside of the station late at night. I would not hesitate to go to Lincoln Park Zoo. LP is at least two miles north of the Loop. That is sad. Chicago used to be so much fun, with the best museums in the world. I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to visit those places, years ago.
Last time I was in Chicago, it was at Union Station for an Amtrak transfer. We were in a separate lounge waiting area, with free food and drinks. The staff at the lounge recommended that we just "stay put" until our train came.
That is what people who live in the area, tell people who are visiting. Just stay in the guarded lounge area.
