Lonnie Painter was found unresponsive with life-threatening injuries at the federal prison downtown on Saturday.

Lonnie Painter was found unresponsive about 4:30 a.m. Dec. 14, 2019, with life-threatening injuries at the Metropolitan Correctional Center at 71 W. Van Buren St., the U.S. Department of Justice said in a release. Staff called for EMS and began life-saving measures on Painter, the release states. He was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead. The Cook County medical examiner’s office ruled his death a suicide.
