GUILTY IN - Ryan Martin, 29, murdered in suspect Talmadge Jasper's home, Lafayette, 23 May 2019

  • #201
Guess he should have thought about that before he murdered someone.

I don’t think there was much thinking at all, including placing RM’s body in his closet and then later inviting the two females back to his place with a newly cushionless couch. What was his plan, to move the body some day when he got around to cleaning his closet? He was either high or off-his-rocker or in a state of self-induced untouchable egomania or any of the three combined is my best guess.

“The women left before 7 a.m., and later that morning, Jasper contacted his girlfriend and said Martin had left the apartment, so she and her friend could come over to his home, according to the affidavit.

When the women returned, he told them he threw away the couch cushions and would buy new ones, according to the affidavit.”

I agree with your guess of his mindset. And maybe add some rage to that.

BBM

Or maybe he thought he could hide everything and deal with it later? He may be used to hiding and not getting caught.

I will be very surprised if his DNA *isn’t* linked to other crimes.

What's a POR? Any lawyers around here! :)

courts.IN.gov: Protection Order Registry

I'm not a lawyer but I just googled and this info came up. Protection Order Registry.

ETA. There is a search feature on here also, searchable by name. It worked for me but the view feature didn't appear to show who was being protected. He has a previous one issued in March for Clark County. Still playing with this new toy.

No Contact Order Issued
POR - No Contact Order No Contact Order - Pretrial Release; Issued by: MR DANIEL MOORE

Order Signed:
05/30/2019

Couple of things:

Daniel Moore is a judicial officer - see top section above about a warrant.

Now why has a warrant been issued if no bond has been allowed? A warrant and a protection order issued has me worried. What does this mean?

Thanks for the abbreviation of POR! Wondering - could it be RM's girlfriend?

Perhaps but why is a PO needed if he is in jail? Last one didn't work. Why do they need to issue a warrant if he is in jail? I hope he hasn't escaped. MOO

Can another inmate file one against him??

I thought she already had one.

Perhaps he uttered threats to his current GF and/or her friend for talking to the police and it has been done as a precaution even though he is currently in jail with no bond

Ok could be and why the warrant?

No contact order is probably for the new girlfriend. Are they going to let him bail out?

Why?

This is probably his first major offense. Maybe he stole a candy bar, broke a window, etc... but he's more than likely never done anything that would lead to his DNA being on file with the state.

I think he was meeting (moo doing a deal) with Ryan so told the girls they should leave.
Later he had the girls back to see cushions gone. Later if questioned about why he was moving bags out of his apartment he could say "getting a new couch, or new cushions."
Girls would back that up saying they saw the cushions gone that day.
It is known that TJ drove RMs car to RMs apartment, is it known that he left the car there? If so, he could have walked back to his apartment, about a half mile walk. If he left RMs car at RMs home, TJ was likely counting on the missing person search for RM starting later in the day and starting with the idea that RM had gone missing from his own home.
That later start would provide time to allow TJ to clean up. MOO being seen in RM's home was unforeseen, and a quick response by Lafayette police is what disrupted this plot.

I’ve noticed No Contact orders filed against other defendants prior to their criminal trials and assumed it’s purpose is to prevent contact by any means - no phone calls, no handwritten letters, also no email if he’s allowed any internet access.

I think that’s a likely scenario too.

The part that doesn’t fit for a diabolical premeditated plan is asking the girls to leave, telling them it was because RM was coming over. In doing so, he placed himself as the last known person to see RM alive, something most murderers tend to avoid if possible.

Instead I wonder if something set TJ off into a murderous rage and as a result he scrambled up a desperate plan to make himself appear innocent, including calling the girls to come back and then acting as if his missing couch cushions were an everyday occurrence.

I wouldn’t be surprised if TJ has physiological issues and also is a pathological liar who denies involvement in a situation even if the facts are staring him in the face.

Or...

He may not have been caught committing another offense
