Wasn't the killing of the little Coffin girl done by someone the father knew? I can't remember, but it seems like it was part of his motive, he was angry with the Dad. He raped and killed the girl in the room with her sisters and the parents in their bedroom sleeping. He left her in the house. Then you have Stephanie Crow, who was killed by a deranged perv and she was left in the house too. The police went after her younger brother and his friends, even got them to falsely confess. There was also a case where a teen girl was killed in her home while the family slept. I can't recall her name, but I believe it was an Asian family. It has happened enough times.

I don't really think they intended to kill her in the house, because they brought items they needed to kidnap her. Rope, the stun gun, tape. But when she is killed they used the paintbrush from the house, as if it was a hasty makeshift weapon. Maybe when she screamed they figured that the parents would wake up and be coming. They got out of there quickly at that point.

At some point someone meant to kill her. I think that most likely the plan was to take her and then it went south somehow and they killed her because they could not get her out again without risk of people waking up.
Your theory sounds good. Of course we know there are sadly kids that are killed in their homes or taken with family there.

So, they were able to get her out at least once? Since that's the case, why would they go back inside with her? Who was running this kidnapping operation? Homer Simpson?

I thought it was obvious what I meant but I meant that once they had her in the basement they could not move her again. They got her OUT of her room, at some point down to the basement but could not get her OUT of the basement again.
I can draw a diagram if needed.

I see the biggest flaw in RDI theory.

The biggest flaw is that her head injury was not visible and could not be scaled as a fatal. Only coroner discovered it at the autopsy. People do hit their heads, children too, and they loose consciousness, they go pale and motionless for HOURS. And NOBODY , nobody expects them to dye. Sometimes victims of the head injuries dye, but in rare occasions. They recover, after many hours, and there is no special treatment, only rest, rest and rest.

That`s the flaw of RDI.

Parents DO NOT kill their children only because they had head injuries. Parents, friends and relatives and doctors expect them to recover. Ramseys had no way to know that the head blow was fatal.

People DO NOT strangle people with head injuries , unless they intended the murder!!

Why would they even need to take her down to the basement in the first place when, according to Mama2JML, "Reportedly, the butler's pantry door was unlocked and, according to a neighbor, appeared to be ajar early that morning; the 26th"?

I can draw a diagram if needed.

No, thanks. That won't be necessary. Instead, here's one for you:

It does seem like the logical thing would be to go out the door, unless they were afraid of being seen going out that way.

Or she was already dead.
But the question then would be why not just leave her in her bedroom?
Why hide her at all, if you don't bother to follow it up by trying to claim the ransom?
Did they see that the Police were there and think that the body had already been found?
Perhaps they thought they might be caught in a trap if they phoned to arrange the money drop?
So, logically it would seem that they could see the house.

Great seeing you here, Rex! :)

Insightful ponderings...

An excerpt from Lou Smit on LKL (05.28.01):

"I believe that he was going to take her out of house. There is some evidence to suggest that he did perhaps try to put her in a suitcase. Perhaps he couldn't get the suitcase in the window and then get out of the window himself. Perhaps he got into the window and couldn't pull the suitcase out after him. So, I don't know why he suddenly went to that basement room, fashioned a garrote from something that was right there in plain sight and brutally murdered JonBenet. Perhaps she knew him. Perhaps she screamed. Something triggered this man to kill JonBenet in a very brutal fashion"

Because that is what they chose to do. Am I supposed to understand why killers and child rapists do what they do?

No one knows.

They had a plan and somehow it went wrong, Or their plan was to kill her from the beginning and leave her there for John to find and the note was just a way of messing with them and scaring them.

But until we find that person that matches that DNA in her underwear, we will never know.

This made me think of something Jeff Ashton said during the Casey Anthony trial, when the defense was saying that Caylee accidentally drowned and they tried to cover it up... He said "people dont turn an accident into murder". This is the IDI thread so I'll be brief... lets say that BR or a family member hit her over the head(obviously it was very bad, but they wouldnt have known that it would have been fatal) why not take her to the ER, why would they have turned the "accident into murder", would they have known she would be checked for SA, and obviously that was a hard hit so of course they would have been questioned right then. Anyways my point is "why make an accident a murder", the head bash wasnt premeditated but it was meant to silence her.

Ashton was a dolt. If not he would have seen that since he had no cause of death unless he acknowledged the fact that she could have been killed many ways and charged her more appropriately he was going to lose.
This was not accidental. This child was murdered with Preditation. No doubt.

Only body would have been checked for SA, not the living girl. Do you know for sure that all girls delivered to the emergency room checked vaginally? Never ever head about it. The bodies-- always checked. Where is the logic? Killing your daughter that you sexually assaulted-- what a stupid act, 100% exposure, keeping her alive-- the only way for the pervert-parent.

Terri Shaya case. Relatives kept her on life support for years, and only at the autopsy it was discovered that there was no brain left, just liquid.
When it comes to the head injury, there is no method to conclude the brain is dead, if person is still breathing.

Ramseys could not have known she would dye, doctors would not have known, everybody would expect her to recover.

Some of the questions that always seemed weaker in RDI theories:

If she, or he, or they, were trying to hide an accidental or voluntary death of her daughter, presenting it as the work of an intruder, why not let clear evidence of it?

Why not leave a mess in the room Jonbenet? It would have been enough with a lamp on the floor, a blanket or a chair out of place, ...

Why are not made clear signal input or output of an intruder ? It would also have been easy.

Why hide the signs of sexual abuse? Normally we would have them obvious, leaving Jonbenet partially nude.

And these are only a few...

Why leave the body? When parents kill their kids.. Other than the refrigerator horror in the last few days, and they are trying to get away with it, They don't leave the body in the house and call the police over. It is just ludicrous.

My point is if she was bashed in the head by a family member, why did it turn into murder with the strangulation? There was no visible appearance of a head wound, so what made whoever killed her use the garrote... why not call 911? Because they knew they would be in deep doo doo if they took her to the ER. And the head blow would have been fatal, but the R's would not have known that

IT didn't because the R's didn't kill her. No one would do that. They would not accidentally kill her and then not only stage a sexual assault and leave a ransom note and leave the body in the basement.
If parents kill the children and try to get away with it, The get rid of the body.
