"Ashling Murphy's family condemn 'predator' Jozef Puska and say the​

'vicious monster' ​

must never be allowed to harm another woman as he is found guilty of murdering the Irish teacher.​

Ms Murphy's heartbroken family stood outside the court following the verdict, overcome with emotion after listening to five weeks of harrowing evidence.

Her brother Cathal, shaking with emotion and standing in front of his tearful parents Kathleen and Raymond, said his 'darling' sister was subjected to 'incomprehensible violence by a predator'.

He said it was 'imperative' that Puska, who he described as a 'vicious monster', 'can never harm another woman again'.

Ms Murphy's boyfriend Ryan Casey choked back tears after the verdict as he described the school teacher as a 'vibrant, intelligent and highly-motivated woman' who was a 'shining light in their community' before she was brutally murdered.

Ms Murphy's brother Cathal, flanked by his parents and sister Amym, said while the judicial process 'can't bring our darling Ashling back nor heal our wounds' his family were 'relieved' by the guilty verdict.

He said:
'We would like to thank the members of the jury for reaching this verdict.
Sitting through the harrowing evidence of this trial was not an easy task and we'll be forever grateful for their patience and resilience throughout this incredibly difficult process'."

''The evil monster who killed Ashling Murphy is now mixing in the general prison population and is no longer getting special protection behind bars.

Jozef Puska was moved out of his single cell in the psychiatric unit of the Midlands Prison last week because of overcrowding. He is now sharing a cell with another prisoner on the E2 landing and is openly mixing with 30 to 35 other prisoners. Prison sources said there are at least several other 'lifers' on the same landing.


Puska had threatened legal action to stop him being moved before Christmas. Prison sources said he was terrified of going into the general prison population in case he is attacked in revenge for killing beautiful primary school teacher Ashling, 23.''

It is two years since the Ashling Murphy Memorial Fund was founded to support the development of traditional Irish arts, culture and heritage for young people.

The fund establishment date of January 6 “fittingly lands on Nollaig na mBan”, a post on its page said.

“Since the launch of the charity, on the 6th of January 2023, we have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support and the desire of so many to remember Ashling, regardless of whether they personally knew Ashling or not,” the post said.

Marek Puska (36) is accused of withholding information that was crucial to the investigation into Ms Murphy's murder. He is on trial with his brother Lubomir Puska Jnr (35), who is also accused of withholding information. Their wives, Jozefina Grundzova (31) and Viera Gaziova (38), are accused of impeding Jozef Puska's apprehension or prosecution by burning the clothes he wore when he murdered Ms Murphy.
