2. "Patsy says they do not want a house with a basement in it,since JB was killed in the basement of their old home.
They buy a house with a basement in it." : I could see where this would cause question but in reality its very possible. My son died in a large travel trailer that was across from my cousins home. After stating many times I never wanted to see that or any other travel trailer again as long as I live and meaning it when I said it I did just that. My cousin who has helped me and more importantly had helped my son needed my help. Feeling very thankful for the times she fed my son dinner and was a friend to him I could not say no. The thought of that trailer then and now puts knots in my stomach but as much as I hated to I went to her house. After I got there I found out the fear of the pain of seeing the trailer was greater than the pain of seeing it. After a few minutes the pain turned to comfort. That was where my boy lived the last few weeks of his life. I went in there, layed on the couch I found my son on and did not want to leave. Even with this I do not want to go back there. If it had been a basement I would not want another basement but if my family found a house they really liked that had a basement I would want them to have what joy they could have because they are hurting also. I would rationalize that there are millions of basements, the other house also had a kitchen does that mean I should do without that and that this is not the basement of my nightmares and that I would like to see my family happy because they need it. If I lost a child in a car accident does that mean I would never let my other child get in a car, no. It would make me very nervous but i would know it would not be right to do that to them and learn to live with it. It would be a healing process I would not want but would do all the same. If my family wants a travel trailer I would not stand in the way of their joy. Thats one of the few things that matter in this world. Seeing them happy and adjusting as best they can.

But the R case is different. This does not mean to say that the Rs did not miss their daughter or suffer her loss. But their behavior can't be compared to parents in your situation. Their daughter's death was a tragedy as well. But when a parent causes the death of their child and then covers it up to look like someone else did it this simply cannot be compared to the tremendous suffering you have endured.

I'M STAQNDING AND APPLAUDING:clap::clap::clap:

Well said DeeDee.

They caused the death, covered it up, lied about it, tried to flee. :furious:

tlstcb, sure, and those things are fine, but Patsy is just plain guilty of talking out of both sides of her mouth, which she did a lot of,esp. in regards to trying to manipulate LE (which she and JR both did a lot). She would say one thing, just b/c she knew it sounded good to the outside world, then turn around and do exactly the opposite.
Tell me,if your child was found with a garrote around his/her neck, made with a paintbrush of yours, could you ever paint again? Would you ever want to? I know for myself,I wouldn't want paintbrushes anywhere in the house!! But Patsy turns around and has a painting studio put in her home.
Basically I feel these are subconcious confessions, which Patsy also did a lot of.Despite her daughter being 'murdered by an intruder',so they say,she went and created yet again, the same scenario for herself...paintbrushes,basement,and pineapple in the kitchen.
On top of that, she says she had a panic attack upon seeing a tudor style house,yet...she is able to not only stand in front of the house where JB was killed, she also sits for awhile in a van right outside it.Just things that make you go hmmm..
But it's not those things that make me believe the R's killed their daughter,(these are just things I was commenting on),it's the overall evidence as a whole, and their overall behavior.

1. The pineapple wallpaper: The last meal my loving son ate had one of his favorite foods, blackeye peas. I know in my heart if my son knew it was his last meal that would have been one of the things he would have asked for. I like to think that God is sending me little bits of comfort whenever I think of that it brings a small smile to my tightly drawn face. The few times someone has cooked blackeye peas since that time it always makes me cry. If I was redoing wallpaper in my kitchen and found some that had blackeye peas on it I'd buy it in a heartbeat, even pay much more than it is worth. TO me it would be almost irreplaceable. A memorial to my son. That if by any chance somehow or someway he could look down from Heaven and see it he would know it was there because of my love for him. It would be like having something of him around. I would be so proud I would want to show everyone. It would be keeping his memory alive. Which is what I will continue to try to do till the day I join him. It says I have not and will not forget my hearts desire. There is so little i can do in respect to my son now I would jump at the chance. Have I cooked black eye peas? No. The 1st time i tried to eat them it made me feel ill. I hope one day to be able to eat them while thinking this is for you son. Does it make any sense? Not really.

My dad died in 1994 I fed him his last bites of food Mom made him the goulash he had asked for. She called and said come up right away something is wrong with dad I made him his favorite lunch now he wont eat it. That was not like dad Ok What I didnt know as I drove the 50 miles up there he couldnt swallow. I got there and I fed him a few bites as he couldnt hold the fork...I knew what mom would not see something was wrong, I got him to the doctors and then to the hospital he had suffered what was a fatal stroke. To this day I cant eat goulash. I know I will never eat it again. I know I woulnt be able to have pinapple wallpaper no matter what. I have found some of what we discarded I would pay a Kings Ransom for other things I kept now I wonder what was I thinking? Difference is we did not ever hurt or in any way harm our loved ones. I dont see how we can compare really . One of the things that shouts out to me is Patsy needed JonBenet to be the princess in the Tiara. The little beauty queen . Not just a little girl. That tells me something

From the moment they left their house on the 26th, leaving their daughter's corpse under the family's Christmas Tree (in a hideous insult to the previous day, which saw a happy JBR in her pink pajamas opening her presents) they distanced themselves from her and her death. They strove to retain only the memory of the JBR THEY created- the little beauty queen- all blonde curls and frilly dresses. They simply shut the whole garish mess out of their minds, and like BR's drawing just days after, where he did not draw his sister as part of the family- like BR's drawing, she was "erased".
All the horrible details of her death- the pineapple, paintbrush, all of it, just didn't mean anything to PR any more. She'd gotten away with it, and actually convinced herself she wasn't responsible for it anyway.

But don't you see this is what tlstcb is saying. If they shut it out of their memory and only remembered the good stuff then the pinapple wallpaper and whatever else would not upset her (Patsy) but instead bring her fond memories. TLSTCB I get what you're saying, even though I think Patsy accidently killed her daughter she may have simply reset her mind about it so these things would not have been a bad thing for her but a way to remember the happier times. (I'm sorry to hear about your son. Welcome to the board.)

..Patsy says she had a panic attack over seeing a house similar to the one they had in Boulder..yet they meet Smit in front of their old home in Boulder (where JB was actually killed,of course),and, after having been parked right across the St.,have a little prayer meeting with him in a van right in front of the house..and...no panic attack ever ensued in Patsy after seeing the actual home again.Never mind they were parked right in front of it!

..JB ate pineapple within 2 hours of her death.A bowl of pineapple matching what was found in JB was found on the kitchen table.
Patsy has pineapple wallpaper in her kitchen in their home in Atlanta.

..Patsy says they do not want a house with a basement in it,since JB was killed in the basement of their old home.
They buy a house with a basement in it.

..and finally....JB was found with a garrote made with a paintbrush handle belonging to Patsy around her neck.
Patsy has a painting studio put in her Atlanta home and continues to paint.

..anything else?I'm sure there's more.

Ironies? Or coincidences? How about the phrase "and hence" in the ransom note and written again in the liturgy written by JR and PR together to be read at JB's memorial service?

Ironies? Or coincidences? How about the phrase "and hence" in the ransom note and written again in the liturgy written by JR and PR together to be read at JB's memorial service?

...yes,big red flag on that one!
I believe Patsy gave away the method they used to write the ransom note in DOI,when she talked about how they composed the liturgy..that she and JR both wrote a version of it,and then merged the two together into one..and the final version contained the words 'and hence'.
What is interesting to me is what Mark McClish had to say about the RN,and something JR said:

http://www.statementanalysis.com/ramseynote/

5. The kidnapper demanded $118,000 from the Ramseys. This is a very unusual amount. Most people would ask for a much larger amount. There is a reason why the writer chose $118,000. Even John Ramsey agrees that the number 118 is significant to the killer. It has been reported that in 1996 John Ramsey received a bonus of $118,000. Is this a coincidence? When the writer had to think of a number, $118,000 was on his mind.
13. delivery will be exhausting so I advise you to be rested. If we
14. monitor you getting the money early, we might call you early to
15. arrange an earlier delivery of the money and hence a earlier
16. delivery pickup of your daughter.
6. In lines #13 - 16, the writer states, "If we monitor you getting the money early, we might call you early to arrange an earlier delivery of the money and hence a earlier pickup of your daughter." The word "hence" is a formal way of saying "therefore." The writer starts out the ransom note misspelling words giving the appearance he is uneducated. However, his educational level begins to show when he uses words such as "hence."

The word "hence" is not a very common word. When was the last time you used that word in a sentence? Chances are you have not used it this week. We should look to see if this word appears in any writings of John or Patsy Ramsey. Well, it does. On December 14, 1997, the First United Methodist Church in Boulder, Colorado held a memorial service for JonBenet. In the program, there was "A Christmas Message from the Ramsey Family." This message was also posted on the Ramsey family's web site. In the message, we find the statement, "Had there been no birth of Christ, there would be no hope of eternal life, and, hence, no hope of ever being with our loved ones again."

7. The word "hence" is a transition word. You do not have to use the word "and" with it. For example, "The arcade was closed, hence, I spent my money at the mall." The writer of the ransom note used the phrase "and hence." In their Christmas Message, the Ramseys used this exact same phrase. "Had there been no birth of Christ, there would be no hope of eternal life, and, hence, no hope of ever being with our loved ones again."

In their book, The Death of Innocence, Patsy Ramsey addresses the use of the phrase "and hence."
"Actually, I have no idea why we used that phrase. Maybe we'd seen it so many times in reading the ransom note - and having to write it over and over again for the police - that it became a part of our subconscious vocabulary. Who Knows? Then again, maybe people everywhere use the phrase ‘and hence' everyday of the week, because it's a normal part of the English language."
Like I said, when was the last time you used that phrase? It is not part of the normal English vocabulary. Patsy Ramsey does not tell us why they used that phrase. She only says "maybe" it is because they saw it in the ransom note and had to write it several times for the police. She then asked a question, "Who knows?" She is trying to sweep this under the carpet as if it is no big deal. However, this is a very big deal. We have the same phrase that is in the ransom note, appearing in their writings.

On October 12, 2000, the Ramsey's did a webcast interview with Newseum (www.newsuem.org). In the interview, John Ramsey makes the following statement:
"The justice system is a government organization. And hence, should be looked at with some degree of skepticism."
8. Many Ramsey supporters believe the Ramseys did subconsciously adopt the phrase "and hence" found in the ransom note. Okay. I will admit it is possible. But lets take a closer look at the phrase "and hence." When we look at the original ransom note we find the writer had crossed out a word. 13. delivery will be exhausting so I advise you to be rested. If we
14. monitor you getting the money early, we might call you early to
15. arrange an earlier delivery of the money and hence a earlier
16. delivery pickup of your daughter.
The writer started to say that upon receiving the money he would "deliver" JonBenet to her parents. He then realized that a kidnapper would not deliver the hostage but would tell the authorities where she could be found. Therefore, he changed it to "pick-up." It is doubtful that a kidnapper would make this mistake.

More importantly, an examination of the author's writing style shows us that whatever comes before the phrase "and hence" comes after the phrase "and hence."
13. delivery will be exhausting so I advise you to be rested. If we
14. monitor you getting the money early, we might call you early to

We see the same writing style in the Ramsey's Christmas message.
"Had there been no birth of Christ, there would be no hope of eternal life, and, hence, no hope of ever being with our loved ones again."
So, the Ramsey supporters would have us believe that the Ramseys not only adopted the word "hence" they also adopted the phrase "and hence" and they also adopted the killer's writing style! Possible but not probable.

I do understand how certain things could bring comfort- but this usually means things associated with what a person loved to to, favorite clothes, hobbies, favorite foods, possessions, etc. But when a thing is associated with a MURDER, it is different than a death by any other means. You'd never grow to take comfort in a murder weapon ( as the paintbrush handle was used) or in something found at autopsy (pineapple). Every time I thought about pineapple, I'd think about the autopsy of my child, and I don't think I'd ever come to feel comforted by pineapple.
To me, PR's choices were not an indication of feeling closer to JBR because of them as much as they are an indication of how PR had gotten to the point of totally distancing herself from the circumstances of her death.

I'm almost embarrassed to post, being not as versed in the case as you all.
Hence doesn't seem rare to me, but using it with and is. Hence seems more common in a structure such as:
Hence, the car then struck a light pole.
or
Hence, the solution should be a light blue.

It seems archaic, not American English. It also seems like one of those words a student uses in an essay when he or she is proofreading, realizes he's used "therefore" a dozen times already, and hence, roots around in a thesaurus for a different synonym.
Was PR (or JR) fond of older English novels?

Exactly my point. That is exactly the reason she WAS able to have pineapple wallpaper and use a paintbrush, etc. It was because she had distanced herself from the crime SHE COMMITTED.

I have had a relative murdered. It was 25 years ago, so the pain is dulled; but not forgotten. As a matter of fact, the memories are still very clear. Right down to me wiping blood up with paper towels and the landlord banging on the door telling us to hurry up because he already had the apartment rented and the neighborhood thugs banging on the windows asking if they could have the couch, table, lamps, clothes, etc. Finally I let them and told them to take it all away.
In those days, before such exact forensic science, after the police remove that yellow crime scene tape- you are on your own.
When you are not the killer- you can only distance yourself so far.
As I said- a murder is different from a death by any other means (accident, illness, natural causes). You deal with it differently.

That..imo..is so far fetched. Why would anybody adopt the words or phrases, found in a RN, that was left by their daughter's killer? John: "Hey look Patsy....the ransom note says "and hence". You know, those two words sound real good together, lets started using that phrase". Patsy at first says that she never read the entire RN, then she says that she didn't read it all until after the 911 call. She says that some of the words just jumped out at her...like kidnapped, that's how she knew that it was a RN. So, even if she had of read it through once...I highly doubt that she and John would have just sat and read it over and over and over again, until they adopted the phrase "and hence".

She said she had to write it over and over during many of the handwriting samples she had to give. But I'm with you, i don't believe it either. BTW where have you been? You ok?

Yeah, I know that she had to write it over and over again...but what about John...he didn't have to write it over and over again, because his wasn't found to be inconclusive. So, how did HE "adopt" that phrase? I mean, if we were to believe the supporters that say that is where they picked it up from. And WHY those two words?? It's quite simple really...John dictated the RN to Patsy...with her adding her two cent, and they used the words AND HENCE...just as they always did...(the Christmas letter, and John's statement).

LOL..yeah, I am ok. Thanks for asking! We just bought a new house, and I am trying to get things put up...with a 6 month old!!! (Not to mention my 16 year old and my 6 year old....hubby is no help!) Tried to get the kids to help me, but my 16 year old ended up just wadding up things and throwing them in the top of her closet. As the saying goes..."if you want something done right, then do it yourself". So I have been extremely busy.

So, even if she had of read it through once...I highly doubt that she and John would have just sat and read it over and over and over again, until they adopted the phrase "and hence".

yes and she said the RN was such a hideous thing for her to read and copy anyway...so why consciously or subconsciously adopt anything from it,if it caused such bad memories to come forth?

Yeah, I know that she had to write it over and over again...but what about John...he didn't have to write it over and over again, because his wasn't found to be inconclusive. So, how did HE "adopt" that phrase? I mean, if we were to believe the supporters that say that is where they picked it up from. And WHY those two words?? It's quite simple really...John dictated the RN to Patsy...with her adding her two cent, and they used the words AND HENCE...just as they always did...(the Christmas letter, and John's statement).

LOL,that's what mine did when we moved! They even hid the cleaning products from me,usually where I couldn't reach them when I did finally find em.LoL,that's what I get for having kids who are taller than me. (kids shouldn't be allowed to grow taller than their parents ...there should be a law against that or something! LOL).
