My line of thinking is this: Hamas is getting desperate-- they're actually negotiating (which, imo, is a first). Capitalize on that. Yes, getting some hostages may be better than none. But then, how do you face the other families? Netanyahu  promised from the outset, that Israel would destroy Hamas (at least in Gaza), and get back the hostages. Let the man fulfill his promise to the people, and finish his career on that. JMO
Perhaps IDF soldiers have an idea of where these hostages are and they will get them without these negotiations? If they are getting close, then I'd say HAMAS might be scared enough to dangle the release of 50 for a cease fire. I am glad I don't have to make these decisions because it would be hard to say no to the 50, but then what about the rest? What happens to them over the 3 days? That is 3 more days they are held in who knows what conditions or they can be moved to a new location that won't be easily found.

That's what I'm hoping for. IDF has been busy behind the scenes, I'm sure. While the "talking heads" are "negotiating", the boots on the ground are on the hunt.

And "dangling" is  exactly what it is, imo.

The on-site "leaders" of Hamas still in the Gaza probably need that long to make it through their tunnel network in the strip and to step out at an exit within some Hamas or Muslim Brotherhood's house in Egypt so they can go settle down nice and snug in Qatar. Funny they never seem to choose Iran to move themselves to.
Do you really believe the 'big dogs' in Qatar would allow the local boys to do that? I rather get the feeling everyone is expendible in that outfit.

The Prime Minister's wife Sara Netanyahu confirms in a letter to the wife of US President Jill Biden: "One of the kidnapped women gave birth to her baby in the captivity of Hamas"

I do wonder how she knows the mother is still alive and her baby still alive?

Oh no; Joe Blow average Palestinian Hamas member will be left sitting in the Gaza to get the dirty work done and become a martyr.

The Hamas members "with the wives, and the homes, and the cars" will be top of any get-me-butt-out-of-here movement. Innocent Palestinians know who those guys are. They are the terrorists who'd rather run the joint and not martyr themselves up. They'll eventually scurry back in through their tunnels when things have been deemed by them to be "settled down".

One thing I forgot to note from PM Net’s video last Sunday on Meet the Press with Kristen Welker wrt how close Israel is to reaching deal involving hostages:

PM Net/5:43: “…I can say we were not close at all until we started the ground operation….in fact….the minute we started the ground operation, things began to change, and the pressure…”

BBM. Terror indoctrination in the Gaza schools? Is there a link where I can learn more? Thanks!

JMO
JMO: This group has done amazing documentaries on the curriculum of unrwa. Over a decade of documentaries and most are about 20 mins long (so quick to watch). Hearing some of the interviews with the mothers of these kids heading off to class, kids as young as 5/6, saying they’d be proud for their kids to become martyrs made me sick.. I’m a mom and I can’t fathom saying something like that.

“Moral support” LOL.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei delivered a clear message to Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh when they met in Tehran in early November, three senior officials told Reuters: You gave us no warning of your Oct. 7 attack on Israel and we will not enter the war on your behalf.Khamenei told Ismail Haniyeh that Iran would continue to lend the group its political and moral support, but wouldn't intervene directly. He also pressed Haniyeh to silence those voices in the Palestinian group publicly calling for Iran and its powerful Lebanese ally Hezbollah to join the battle against Israel in full force.

"Hamas Parliament blown up.

Hamas parliament was razed to the ground.

Two days ago, the Israeli armed forces took control of several government buildings that were in the possession of the Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas.

These facilities are located in Gaza, the capital of the Gaza Strip.
Among the buildings captured by the Israeli army was the local parliament.
It was there that Israeli soldiers of the 13th battalion took a photo that went viral around the world.

Among the facilities taken over by the army was a Hamas training base where
the organization's fighters were preparing for the attack on Israel.

The base included rooms where interrogations were carried out, as well as cells where people were detained.

Israel National News reported that Israeli soldiers also took control of the cement factory.

An Israeli army officer, in an interview with journalists from the Walla website, stated that
'in each of the government buildings, schools and residences that we took over, we found elements of infrastructure belonging to Hamas'."

U.S. Officials have now Confirmed that the USS Thomas Hudner (DDG-116), a Arleigh Burke-Class Guided Missile Destroyer of the U.S. Navy conducted a Shoot Down of a Unknown Drone this morning over the Red Sea which was launched by the Houthis in Yemen towards Israel; this is only the Second Interception by the U.S. Navy over the Red Sea which has been Officially Confirmed.

Maybe this time the tunnels won't be an option.

Very important vote later today....

The stalemate has largely been centered on whether to call for a humanitarian pause or a ceasefire. A pause is generally considered less formal and shorter than a ceasefire, which has to be agreed by the warring parties.

The draft resolution to be voted on later on Wednesday, drafted by Malta, "calls for urgent and extended humanitarian pauses and corridors throughout the Gaza Strip for a sufficient number of days to enable ... the full, rapid, safe, and unhindered humanitarian access."

I think you are right about expendibility as viewed by the big dogs in Qatar.

But.... the local little dog leaders in Gaza might not be inclined to stick around for formal affirmation of their escape intent from Qatar. Rather, my bet is that when they see that the "ship is lost", they are going to start escaping on their own.

The escape might not be that organized in regards to seniority. It could get "first come, first serve" fast. Rank and file members who know how the northern tunnels connect might also move on their own. Likewise, some of the escapees could have their own "personal hostage"(s) in tow as form of life insurance.

As @Vern mentioned, Hamas has connections to Egypts largely defunct Muslim Brotherhood (supplied a key leader for 9/11). Some Hamas escappes may find shelter with the Brotherhood. But.... I think that Netanyahu's stunts on the Temple Mount ("Al Aqsa Storm") might have struck a chord with ordinary Egyptians.

There might be quite a bit of Egyptians willing to shelter Gaza escapees, or just not ask questions about certain guests with non Egyptian accents. This willingness to shelter could go up even further if Iranian cash is offered.

I can't help but wonder if the money promised by Biden has any connection to this.

bbm.
Red bolding mine.
Re. the Hamas parliament building : Good to see some progress !

Notice the 'residential' part of that sentence ?
In people's homes.
If it was me -- I'd start by letting the IDF know there are items at my house that I didn't ask for, that I did not and still don't support Hamas baby killers, and that I want it removed.
Omo.

When I had a few minutes to daydream, I wondered where they would go after Qatar? I figure Russia or Iran.
I figured they would not go to Lebanon.
I kinda wonder about Russia though. It depends what Putin wants.
They could probably lead a decent life in Iran. Although not as opulent as Qatar, Iran does have decent spots.

If North Korea offers, I think they will decline.

(FYI Khan Younis is Sinwar’s birthplace and several phones of hostages pinged there on/after 10/7)

The IDF calls on the residents of the eastern neighborhoods of Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip to evacuate their homes, for the first time since the start of the war. In leaflets dropped by the Air Force, the army said: "For your safety, you must leave your place of residence immediately and evacuate to one of the known shelters." A significant step indicating an expected expansion of the IDF's operation.
“Later on he located her mobile phone through her Google account. Its location was Khan Younis, a city in Gaza. He then saw a video that spread on social media of them being taken to Gaza.”

"I surely identified my wife, my two daughters and my mother-in-law on some kind of a cart, and terrorists of Hamas all around them," he said.
