I disagree. That hospital complex is huge. In my opinion, hostages could've been kept in the garden shed or a supply closet, and no one would know. Of course, I still think the upper level hospital staff is (at the very least) aware of this, if not complicit. jmo
David Muir says she was found at a house adjacent to the hospital. But, often they don't get facts verified and I hear different things. I don't think anyone has said she was found at the hospital. Some have said she was found near the hospital

The Indonesian hospital in northern Gaza has been completely shut down and about 45 patients who urgently need surgery have been left in the reception area, the hospital chief Atef al-Kahlout has said. Al-Ahli hospital is currently under siege by Israeli tanks and a “violent attack is underway” at the hospital, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) said on Thursday.

I don't know how I feel about this. I am not a fan of US troops as "peacekeeping" forces when it's questionable if peace is actually the goal of the place they are deployed to. Just seeing how some in the US have reacted to this war leaves me feeling some type of way. Perhaps those protestors around the various cities in the US would love to sign up to be part of the "peacekeeping" force. Since they are so passionate about what is happening in Gaza, I'm sure they'd love to assist in a more meaningful way than rioting and causing chaos in our streets.

Edited to add: I want peace for Gaza and the Palestinian people. I do not trust that HAMAS or other terrorist groups won't be rooted in this location and others and never let peace truly be. How many support the ideas of what these terrorist groups want? It feels like a setup for nothing good to put servicemembers from the US and other European countries in these locations. It almost seems like it will provoke the terrorists further because they not only spew hate at Israel and Jews, but "death to America" has been said more than once. Iran has a lot to say also about US involvement. I just don't see anything good from it. I definitely don't see "peace".

I noticed a reply to that tweet mentioning a similar multinational peacekeeping effort in Beirut 1983 :(

Initially, the multinational force’s mission was to establish a presence in Beirut providing the stability necessary for the Lebanese government to regain control of the capital city and train the Lebanese armed forces to become strong enough to protect itself. Although the Marines were deemed “peacekeepers,” their presence was anything but peaceful. Hampered by a multitude of unexploded ordnance, sniper fire, and terrorist’s attacks, the presence of the Marines in Beirut turned to tragedy when on the morning of 23 October 1983 two truck bombs struck separate buildings housing U.S. Marines and French forces killing nearly 300 American and French servicemembers. It was the single deadliest day in U.S. Marine Corps history since World War II’s Iwo Jima battles.

"The children are starving," Al-Shifa director says, describing desperate conditions inside Gaza hospital

From CNN's Hamdi Alkhshali

The director of Al-Shifa Hospital on Thursday described a grim picture of the unfolding humanitarian crisis within the medical complex in the Gaza Strip.

In a phone interview with Al-Jazeera Arabic, Mohammad Abu Salmiya spoke of desperate conditions affecting over 650 wounded people, 36 premature babies, 45 kidney patients and 5,000 displaced people.

Abu Salmiya said some there were starving children.

“The children are starving – and here I mean the displaced children because they need milk and there is no water to make milk for them,” Abu Salmiya said.

He reported the death of a kidney patient, with four others on the brink of death due to critical conditions and the absence of dialysis for days.

Abu Salmiya accused the Israeli military of besieging the hospital, sabotaging sections and spending the last 48 hours freely roaming the premises.

On Wednesday, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it had begun “a precise and targeted operation against Hamas in a specified area in the Shifa Hospital.”
Expressing frustration, Abu Salmiya held the world and the Israeli occupation responsible for the dire circumstances, urging immediate intervention.

The hospital resembles a large prison holding over 7,000 displaced people, medical staff, patients and wounded all while it is facing a severe shortage of essentials, the director said. The Israeli military assault has led to a complete breakdown of life-saving services, leaving the hospital incapable of providing for its inhabitants, he added.

If the children are starving , maybe Hamas can share some of the food they have stashed underneath the hospital.

Or maybe the billionaires living in Qatar can send some food over from the Four Seasons. Although a glass of orange juice at the 4 Seasons was 18 dollars last I checked.

Why doesn’t Israel evacuate out of Gaza the children and their mothers at least? They’ve been getting bombed non stop.
Hamas won't allow that. They use the children as shields and for PR photos.

That would be great, but no one wants to take in refugees, as I recall.

Why do you ask me so strange questions? o_O

I am a teacher in Europe, not a terrorist in Palestine.

And I don't keep hostages.

I simply stated my opinion.
Time will tell who is right.

But time is flying for these poor people.

You seemed so certain about it in your post. I don't know what you teach and thought maybe you had some insight (from history or previous countries at war studies or the like) that maybe you were basing your opinions upon. It was simply a question. It was definitely not an accusation nor the start of an argument.

Supposedly that hospital complex sits on 42 or 43 acres. So was the house on that acreage, or down the block? Not debating you, just wondering which it actually is.

My style of writing might be clumsy as English is a foreign language for me.

And as for me seeming to sound "certain" - well,

It is a hazard of the job hahaha

My poor family would agree with you :p

True, but I just don't think we will be able to silence their 'river to the sea' death chant. It is being heard in so many big cities within so many countries, including in Europe and the West.

Allowing the refugees from so many wars to enter all of these countries has just spread their dissatisfaction and agitation across the globe. Some may have joined their new destinations by working and joining society. But many have just become active dissidents and agitators looking to create chaos for their hosts. JMO
Belgium let them in from the ME, gave them homes, food, money and jobs not to mention an education. In return they get combat training in another country and bomb their host country. MOO

'Just curious... Why do you think hostages were there only at the beginning and only there for a day or two?

I don't think I've an inkling of how and where terrorists "care" for their hostages.
Neither do I- but my guess is that it is usually not is hospitals.

Hospitals full of people injured by Israeli bombing (not all Gazans voted for Hamas) might also be a good source of tips to the Israelis- just a text" away. Texting fingers might fly even faster if the Israelis offer rewards. Hamas does not want Special Forces landing on the roof top.

Then factor in that...... hospitals are already shielded. Tunnels are not. Placing hostages in the tunnels can shield them- at least for a while.

I am thinking Dotta could be right. Maybe:

- Hostages that appeared to be going into mental shock, needed medication of some sort, were brought to the hospital for quick treatment. This was not done to be nice. Rather, shocked and sick hostages are harder to move arounds etc. The hostages are then sent back to their shielding roles.

According to the lawsuit filed earlier this week against Pres. Biden, the goal of Israel is to commit genocide and the U.S. has failed to prevent it. One way to do it is starving them.

So we are bringing the first claim for its failure to prevent the unfolding genocide.

And the second claim is that it’s actually complicit in genocide. We lay out the case that Israel is actually committing genocide at this moment. And we are able to do so, unfortunately — it’s with no pleasure that we say this — at this early moment because of the very clear statements of intent by Prime Minister Netanyahu, by his minister of defense and other senior Israeli officials about their intentions against the entire population in Gaza. They have been clear that they see this, the people, the children of Gaza, as less than human, describing the population as “monsters” or “human animals,” and then taking away all of the basic necessities — food, fuel, water, electricity. We’ve certainly, as you just played, heard what has happened to the healthcare and medical facilities: bombed and invaded. And so, in the face of all of this, the United States, when it has continued to send weapons, to send military advisers, to rush aid and give moral a
nd political support to Israel’s actions, we say it is aiding and abetting genocide.

I am the same way in Spanish.

In Spanish, my writing is too formal and somewhat stilted. But... some of my guides were nuns who routinely wrote in flowery, polite and olde fashioned Spanish.

A Panamanian co worker once told met that I wrote Spanish well- but then added that nobody writes like that (nuns were probably the only exception) I also miss alot of humor, sarcasm and irony when reading Spanish.

I'm not seeing the connection between Constitutional rights in the US and war in Gaza...

Prominent Israeli officials have called not simply for the defeat of Hamas but for the annihilation of Gaza, the starving of its population, and the removal of Palestinians from some or all of its territory. The Israeli president suggested that civilians in the Hamas-controlled territory are not “innocent.”

Such rhetoric has alarmed myriad international experts, many of whom contend that Israel is already potentially guilty of war crimes in its collective punishment of the Palestinians living in Gaza and the bombing of civilian homes. “We remain convinced that the Palestinian people are at grave risk of genocide,” a group of current U.N. special rapporteurs on human rights wrote in a statement last week that called for a cease-fire. “The time for action is now. Israel’s allies also bear responsibility and must act now to prevent its disastrous course of action.”

These are some results from a recent poll of Palestinians from Gaza and the West Bank -

“This is the first poll I’ve seen of Palestinians (Gaza & WB) since 10/7. 75% support the 10/7 massacre. 76% have a positive view of Hamas.98.2% have a negative view of America Interestingly, 64% have a negative view of Iran.”

“Also worth noting when given a choice between a shared state where both people co-exist, two states, or a Palestinian state from the river to the sea, 77.7% choose the last option.”
