Palestinian official tells CNN they do not have names of prisoners set for release yet

A Palestinian official with a lead role in the planned prisoner release has told CNN he has not yet received a list of names of those expected to be freed on Friday.

Qadura Fares, the head of the Palestinian Commission for Detainees and Ex-Prisoners’ Affairs, indicated to CNN he expected about 30 to 35 people to be released tomorrow as a first group.

All prisoners would be released at the Beitunia checkpoint, which is immediately south of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank, he said.

Israel has published a list of 300 names of people eligible for release in the exchange. The vast majority are male teenagers aged between 16 to 18 – children under the United Nations definition – although a handful are as young as 14.

Some 33 people on the list are women, according to a CNN count.

Israel parents name babies after communities attacked by Hamas

Israeli parents have been naming newborn babies after communities that were attacked by Hamas militants on 7 October, in tribute to the victims, the interior ministry has said.

At least 45 babies born since 7 October have been named Beeri, the kibbutz community near Gaza that saw some of the worst atrocities in the cross-border attacks, the ministry said.

The ministry added that the name Oz, which means "strength" in Hebrew, was given to 49 boys and one girl after Nir Oz and Nahal Oz, two other communities targeted in the attacks.

Eight other babies were named Nir and three girls were named Nova, after a desert rave targeted by Hamas.

Several Middle Eastern Countries including Saudi Arabia and Jordan are requesting that Hamas decide to “Lay Down its Arms” during the planned Ceasefire in Gaza with hopes that this may lead to an End to the War; however Hamas has reportedly Refused this Request.

If we find this toying around with the hostage release unbearable, I cannot even fathom what their families are enduring.

Hamas is making a mockery of this, like they do with anything that touches on human emotion and dignity.

Other than continually donating to organizations that support Israel and the IDF, I feel so helpless. I will go to my Thanksgiving party but it feels wrong to celebrate in comfort, when these people are suffering so drastically at the hands and whims of terrorists.

Will the Red Cross being riding along, for safe measures?

Wouldn't want anything to happen to the prisoners in route or false accusations being made against Israel.

"Egyptian authorities confirmed that the return of the remaining stranded people in Cairo and the rest of the governorates of the Arab Republic of Egypt will be allowed voluntarily from Saturday," it added.

I do appreciate that Egypt has made this return to Gaza "voluntary" as there'd be nothing worse than forcing people to return to an active war zone.

This is going to be interesting, but it may be bluster. This sounds like something the Taliban would do. But Hamas, could also be posturing. Gaza can't exist without aid groups.

  • Al-Shifa arrest: Abu Salmiya was reportedly arrested Thursday while evacuating with a World Health Organization convoy, a doctor in the hospital told Al-Jazeera. The IDF later confirmed it had detained Salmiya, saying "there was extensive Hamas terrorist activity" inside the hospital under his management. “He was in a constant state of denial saying it doesn’t happen. How could a General Manager of the hospital not know about the extent of the tunnel system?” an IDF spokesperson told CNN. Israel launched a “targeted” operation inside Al-Shifa last week, trapping patients, doctors, refugees and newborns inside the complex it says Hamas has used as a military base. Hamas denies the allegations.

  • WHO criticized: The Hamas-run Gaza Ministry of Health said it has suspended operation with the WHO after Salmiya’s arrest. Ashraf Al-Qidra, a spokesperson for the ministry, said the IDF on Wednesday stopped a WHO convoy at a checkpoint in central Gaza, as it was attempting to evacuate people from Al-Shifa. Al-Qidra said the IDF arrested several medical staff, including Salmiya, and as such the ministry had suspended cooperation with WHO and blamed the United Nations for failing to safeguard its staff. “The United Nations bears full responsibility for this event and we await appropriate and urgent measures on their part to address this,” the ministry said in a statement.

Hamas-run Gaza Ministry of Health suspends cooperation with WHO on Al-Shifa evacuations

From CNN's Kareem Khadder

The Hamas-controlled Ministry of Health in Gaza is suspending cooperation with the World Health Organization, which had been helping to facilitate evacuations with the Al-Shifa Hospital in northern Gaza, a spokesperson for the ministry said.
The announcement came following reports that the hospital's director had been arrested by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) while evacuating as part of a WHO convoy.
Ministry spokesperson Ashraf Al-Qidra said a WHO convoy from Al-Shifa, in the north of the enclave, had been stopped for several hours on Wednesday at a checkpoint operation by the IDF in central Gaza.
Several medical staff had been arrested, including Mohammed Abu Salmiya, the director of Al-Shifa.

"The Ministry of Health decides to stop full coordination with the World Health Organization on the issue of evacuating the remaining wounded and medical teams until a report is submitted explaining what happened and the detainees are released," it added.
CNN has asked WHO for a response to the ministry’s decision.
I'm not sure why they are blaming the WHO when it was the IDF "checkpoint" that caused the arrest.
The IDF is also trying to muzzle the oldest newspaper because it has been calling the government out for all the propaganda and lies.

Haaretz, which has been fiercely critical of the Netanyahu government, has decried Karhi’s attempts to shut down media organizations through the use of emergency regulations. In an editorial published last month, Haaretz accused the communications minister of seeking to “to return to the law books the brutal authority to silence and darken.”

U.S. Forces at Al-Asad Airbase in Western Iraq have been Attacked by Drones and Mortars within the last hour in Coordination with what appears to have also been a Ground Assault on the Fence around the Base, in which Iranian-Backed Forces attempted to Storm the Base using Rocket-Propelled Grenades and Small-Arms; the Al-Dhafrin Militia has claimed Responsibility for the Attack.

Bringing forward for reference:

“Several U.S. service members were injured in a ballistic missile attack by Iranian-backed militias on Al-Asad Airbase in Iraq, Pentagon officials said Tuesday. The attack Monday night on U.S. and coalition forces involved a close-range ballistic missile and resulted in eight injuries and minor infrastructural damage, Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder, a Pentagon spokesperson, said in a statement.

U.S. military responded with a retaliatory strike, which was not pre-planned, killing several Iranian-backed militia personnel, CBS News learned.”

[…]

“"The strikes were in direct response to the attacks against U.S. and Coalition forces by Iran and Iran-backed groups," including the attack on Al-Asad Airbase, "which involved use of close-range ballistic missiles," the statement read.”

Warning of Hamas ‘psychological terror,’ IDF says hostage deal may face curveballs

IDF Spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari warns that there may be changes amid the hostage deal with Hamas, and that the terror group will attempt to use “psychological terror” against the Israeli public.

He says officers have contacted the hostages’ families and notified them who is being released, “with the necessary reservations.”

“These will be complex days, nothing is final until it actually happens. And even amid the process, there may be changes at any moment,” he says.

“It is important to note that Hamas is a ruthless enemy. Difficult days are ahead of us, joy mixed with sadness,” he says.

“Hamas will try to use the days of the deal and the pause in fighting to spread fear, disinformation and psychological terror,” Hagari warns.

He says that the deal is not “the end of the process, but the start.”

Silly request. I could’ve told them that.
Hamas doesn’t want peace and stability for Gaza.

The IDF says the undisclosed amount of Hezbollah rockets fired at Israel earlier today fell inside Lebanon. In effect, much like Palestinian armed groups in Gaza, Hezbollah bombed their own people.

“This is a difficult and tense evening for everyone, especially for the families whose relatives have been taken captive. An initial list has been given of women and children that are set to be released in the first phase…These are complicated days, nothing is sealed until it happens on the ground, and even during the process there could be changes all the time. It is important to know that Hamas is a cruel and merciless enemy. We are expecting difficult days of joy and sadness. Hamas will attempt to use the outline of the deal and the pause in the fighting to spread disinformation and manipulation on the Israeli public…psychological warfare…We reiterate, do not spread rumors. Do not pass unofficial information. We will report the information to the public only when the details and facts are validated by us. The outline is not the end of the process of returning the hostages but the beginning of it. There will be moments of uncertainty. Our hearts are with families. We will continue to follow them and update them on any information…and will continue to do everything, everything in order to return all the male and female hostages. At this time headquarters of the IDF continue to prepare for the outline and to follow the information about the other hostages until they are all returned home. The IDF continues to fly/fire at this very hour in the Gaza Strip. The taking over of the northern part of the Gaza Strip is the first phase of a long war and we are setting for the next phases. We are looking ahead. In the next two days we will focus on planning and completing the readiness to executing the next stages with the start of the pause in the fighting, our forces will be at the armistice line within the Gaza Strip and they will move within those agreed lines. In the north in the morning hours launches were made toward Israeli communities in the north. The IDF attacked a squad of terrorists…We are in a military assessment all the time, we are attacking all the time, with enforced forces and high vigilance…the homefront continue to follow guidelines, especially during times of pauses in the fighting. We must stay vigilant, there could be an event any time. We must listen to the instructions. So far we have given notices to the families of 392 fallen IDF soldiers. Our hearts are with the families…..also are with the wounded and wishing them a speedy recovery.”

Takes questions:

“Spokesman for Qatari Foreign Ministry….”

I've written 130 obituaries in the past 6 weeks. None are easy. Some are harder than others. Some are devastating. None should have had to be written. The hardest thing of all to imagine is that there are still 1,000 left to go. At least.https://timesofisrael.com/spotlight-topic/those-we-have-lost/

[...]

“During this difficult time, the Israeli government approved emergency regulations against foreign channels that harmed national security, used its authority against the Lebanese Al-Mayaden, and began a similar process against the Qatari Al-Jazeera,” wrote Karhi. “It’s inconceivable that while we act against foreign publications, an Israeli paper continues to be mostly funded by the Israeli public while it spreads incitement from Israel’s enemies.”

As such, Karhi proposed that the government end all relations with Haaretz, including public servants’ personal subscriptions, stop paying for ads and get refunded for future planned ads, block payments to the paper, and end all communication with the paper and any affiliated publications.

[...]

NOTE: For anyone who is confused, it is not the IDF seeking to muzzle Haaretz. IDF IS ISRAEL'S MILITARY. Shlomo Karhi is the Communications Minister and a member of the Knesset for Likud.

I have optimistically set my DVR for 8:00 AM Friday morning, as the supposed hostage release will be at 9 AM EST, 4:00 PM Israeli time.

But yesterday we had expected it to be today. Then we are told about specific children on the list, but of course Hamas has rescinded those names, due to whatever devious strategy is at work.

I hope with all my heart that tomorrow we don’t find that Hamas has “ghosted” on this whole deal. Israel is sacrificing greatly, against their better judgment, in order to get a handful of hostages home.

Time will tell what Hamas won’t tell.
