I still wouldn't be surprised to learn there was something odd going on in the air.. perhaps a "TEST" to see what Israel can detect or not detect. I prelude to something that is to come. I also wonder if what is said publicly is one thing and what they really know and suspect is something else. I hope they keep it quiet and go about removing that threat whatever it was.

Propaganda War

"Propaganda in wartime
seeks to demoralize enemy morale.
A primary objective of propaganda aimed at enemy nations is to break down their will to fight.

It seeks to lower the enemy's will to resist and it does this in several ways.

One is to picture the military successes on the propagandist's side."

The US intelligence agencies appear to have failed as well, 5 eyes & others. Failure on multiple fronts.

This is SO very worrisome. Have all the agencies become too lax? This must change but can it be done rapidly?

It wouldn't be shocking if Iran/Lebanon/Etc. said there were no drones, when in actuality there were.

All they'd have to do is a brief flyover and if it was detected by Israel, use the controls to return them back to home base.
Then say; "No, it wasn't us." .

The White House is now beginning its press briefing and in about 2.5 hours Joe Biden is meeting with Jewish-American community leaders, accompanied by Doug Emhoff, the US vice president Kamala Harris’s husband.

The Biden administration is preparing to submit a supplemental funding request to Congress seeking money for Israel (also for Ukraine, Taiwan and the US southern border), NBC News reported on Wednesday, citing unnamed officials, and Reuters posted.

US national security spokesman John Kirby has just said during the briefing that the death toll of 22 US citizens killed during Hamas attacks on Israel was likely to rise again.

The figure of 22 was a big jump on the toll of 14 announced yesterday, with many Americans in addition unaccounted for and some known to have been kidnapped by militants and taken to Gaza.

''Talks are underway to allow United States and Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip to exit the territory into Egypt ahead of any land invasion of the territory by Israeli forces, according to a senior Israeli official.

Under the proposal being discussed, all US citizens would be permitted to pass through the Rafah border crossing if they present their US passports, while the movement of other Palestinian civilians would be limited to 2,000 people a day, the official with knowledge of the negotiations told CNN on Wednesday.

Final approval of the arrangement would need to come from the Egyptians, who control the Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt. The Israeli official said it was “in Israel’s interests” for as many Palestinians as possible to leave Gaza.

Some context:
Airstrikes in Gaza have forced hundreds of thousands of people to flee their homes — but there is little room to go. Across the Middle East, Gaza is among the smallest and most densely packed cities.

Americans in Gaza who spoke with CNN have expressed fear and frustration about feeling that they are trapped without any safe route out of the region that is being heavily bombarded by Israeli forces.

There were reports that the only route of Gaza — via Egypt — was closed Tuesday due to strikes, and the threat of an Israeli ground incursion is looming.''

Israel-Gaza violence: The conflict explained

[…]

A 100-year-old issue

Britain took control of the area known as Palestine after the ruler of that part of the Middle East, the Ottoman Empire, was defeated in World War One.

The land was inhabited by a Jewish minority and Arab majority.

Tensions between the two peoples grew when the international community gave Britain the task of establishing a "national home" in Palestine for Jewish people.

For Jews it was their ancestral home, but Palestinian Arabs also claimed the land and opposed the move.

[…]

The creation of Israel and the 'Catastrophe'

In 1948, unable to solve the problem, British rulers left and Jewish leaders declared the creation of the State of Israel.

Many Palestinians objected and a war followed. Troops from neighbouring Arab countries invaded.

Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians fled or were forced out of their homes in what they call Al Nakba, or the "Catastrophe"

By the time the fighting ended in a ceasefire the following year, Israel controlled most of the territory.

Jordan occupied land which became known as the West Bank, and Egypt occupied Gaza.

Jerusalem was divided between Israeli forces in the West, and Jordanian forces in the East.

Because there was never a peace agreement - with each side blaming the other - there were more wars and fighting in the following decades.

Satellite images show scale of destruction

1697046937317.jpeg

With Israeli strikes targeting Gaza for days now, BBC Verify has been trying to assess the scale of destruction.

One of the heaviest-hit areas appears to be Rimal - a busy residential neighbourhood in northern Gaza.

As these satellite images show, many buildings in the area were destroyed between 9 and 10 October.

Visual clues in the images - such as the remaining buildings and the road patterns - have been matched up with older satellite imagery to confirm the location.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) says certain areas were targeted because they were used “by operatives in the anti-tank force of the terrorist organisation”.

Thanks for the link.
There it is. ^^^

My .02, they (Iran-backed Hamas) may have used drones for a while and that's how they knew about the outdoor music festival.
Omo.

Eta: Sounds like a false alarm .
I stand by my opinion that Hamas or Iran or both may have been surveilling Israel for some time ?

Oh yes, Chimera. The HAMAS invasion was very well-planned and clearly an assembly of a thousand people or so at the festival within a mile or two of the wall would have been easily detected and then specifically targeted.

They knew all about the unmanned machine gun in the guard towers, they knew where the settler kibbutz's were. This was all part of the terror and chaos they wanted.

Gaza hospitals treating only life-threatening cases

Rushdi Abu Alouf
BBC News, Gaza City

By 8pm here in Gaza, when the night wave of air strikes usually starts, I could already hear Israeli aircraft flying over the Strip.

Today, the power authority decided to shut down the only power station in Gaza because the fuel is running out, and that will affect some essential services, such as the hospitals.

The Hamas-run health ministry here has said the hospitals now have to limit their work to life-saving treatment, so at the moment they won't treat anyone who is not in a life-threatening condition.

Emergency government brings consensus and military expertise

Yolande Knell
Reporting from Jerusalem

This afternoon we've seen an Israeli emergency government formed, with opposition leader Benny Gantz joining the existing government to manage the war.

A new war cabinet has been formed - it will include Gantz, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the defence minister Yoav Gallant.

This will give broader national consensus to military action. It also brings to the war cabinet two voices who are experts in military strategy. Both Gantz and also Gadi Eisenkot, who joins as an observer, are former IDF chiefs of staff.

It's also an indication of how the country has been changed by these unprecedented attacks.

The new emergency government is being formed at a time when there’s been deep political division in Israel, with hundreds of thousands of people joining protests against Benjamin Netanyahu’s hardline government.

I worry for the safety of Americans in Gaza. Not that they will be hit by Israeli bombs, but that Hamas will kill them if they discover there are Americans trying to get out. It sounds like Hamas hates Israel and America. Why would they even want to allow the citizens out of Gaza.. they have told them to stay in their homes and die martyrs. This all feels like a trap.. but I hope I am wrong.

False alarm shows nervousness near northern border

Anna Foster
Reporting from northern Israel

I am on the Lebanon-Israeli border in northern Israel. Earlier there were reports of infiltrations from Lebanon.

I was in one of the border communities at the time. People who live there have armed themselves in case of potantial Hezbollah infiltrations.

The suggestion that there was an aerial infiltration came with some rumours that there were paragliders.

Now the Israeli military has checked and they believe it was a false alarm. But it just shows you the nervousness here.

The northern border is crucial. Nobody wants this war to extend across the region, which is a real fear not just here, but internationally too.

The United States government is discussing with international partners, including Qatar, efforts to rescue hostages taken from southern Israel into Gaza by Hamas militants.

US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby, who is based at the White House, chiefly addressed the topic of Americans among the hostages. It’s unclear at this time what international discussions are taking place in relation to all the hostages grabbed by Hamas at the weekend.

“We know that a number of those [17 missing] Americans are being held hostage right now by Hamas. I think we all need to steel ourselves for the very distinct possibility that htese numbers will keep increasing and that we may find out that more Americans are part of the hostage pool,” Kirby said.

Kirby added that: “The Israelis have a very robust hostage recovery capability of their own…but we also have a lot of know-how, too, and we’re offering to share that with the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF).”

He did not rule out US military becoming directly involved with hostage rescue but said it was too soon to talk about any decisions. Kirby said the government does not know exactly where the hostages are.

US is working with Israel and Egypt on safe passage for civilians

The US is working with Israel and Egypt on potential safe passage for some civilians out of Gaza, the White House says.

The Biden administration is having "active discussions" to try to help Gaza civilians leave safely, White House national security spokesman John Kirby said.

"We believe that safe passage is important and we want to see a safe passage corridor opened up," he added.

Earlier, we reported that the Egyptian government was holding discussions with Israel, Hamas, the US and the United Nations to reach a humanitarian truce to provide humanitarian aid to Gaza.

I fear for all hostages taken to the Gaza strip and their family on the other side.

As for energy supplies + water being shut, how could the Hamas and their backers not forsee what was going to happen! Now they are crying.

UN head calls for essential supplies to be allowed into Gaza

The UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has called for essential supplies of food, fuel and water to be allowed to reach civilians in Gaza under Israeli bombardment and blockade.

"Crucial lifesaving supplies including fuel, food and water must be allowed into Gaza. We need rapid and unimpeded humanitarian access now," he said.

"I want to thank Egypt for its constructive engagement to facilitate humanitarian access through the Rafah crossing and to make the El Arish airport available for critical assistance."

'Three terrorists killed in southern Israel' - IDF

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have put out an update saying troops in southern Israel "identified a number of vehicles with terrorists in", close to Kibbutz Nir Am.

A tank "fired at them and killed three terrorists", the IDF said.

IDF soldiers are now carrying out more searches in the area, the force says.

Misinformation about Israel-Hamas war is flourishing on Elon Musk’s X

Misinformation about Israel-Hamas war is flourishing on Elon Musk's X

Oct. 10, 2023 at 6:02 p.m. ET

[...] Fake and manipulated imagery circulating on X include “repurposed old images of unrelated armed conflicts or military footage that actually originated from video games,” said a Tuesday letter to Musk from European Commissioner Thierry Breton. “This appears to be manifestly false or misleading information.”

[...] Breton, the EU’s digital rights chief, also warned Musk that authorities have been flagging “potentially illegal content” that could violate EU laws and “you must be timely, diligent and objective” in removing it when warranted. [...]
The misinformation is not limited to Twitter/X. Resist falling for it! The ultimate goal of misinformation, imo, is not only confusion but eventual apathy because you think nothing can be trusted. Read and absorb info with careful consideration of the source, reasonableness, etc.
