Agam "Gagi" Berger, 19 from Kibbutz Nir Oz was we supposed to meet her father for lunch on Saturday, October 7th. She was last heard from on October 7th, crying on the phone from a safe room and then spotted in a video being taken to Gaza by #HamasTerrorists. Share this and help us bring her home.

We've been told Gaza has one of the most high-density populations in the world. Imagine a densely populated city seeking safety. Yes, people would crowd their families into whatever space they thought safe. I can easily imagine the hospital packed to the gills in the lobby, corridors, wards, etc. It's horrible to picture it, but it's not hard.

jmo
The Hospital wasn't hit, it's still standing. The parking lot was hit but as @Vern explained so well, there were probably a bunch of people in the parking lot.

Israel-Hamas war live: Hospital blast ‘done by other team’, says Biden, after Israel claims it has proof of failed rocket launch within Gaza (theguardian.com)
1m ago15.02 BST

Two of the 10 members of a single Israeli family who went missing from the Be’eri kibbutz early on 7 October have been found dead, family members have confirmed.

The body of Eviatar Kipnis, a 65-year-old Italian-Israeli man who had an auto-immune condition, was found on Tuesday, as was that of his brother-in-law, Avshalom Haran, who was 66. Both men appear to have been murdered, the family said.

Kipnis’s wife, Lilach, and seven other members of the family are still missing: Lilach’s sister Shoshan Haran, who was married to Avshalom; their daughter Adi Shoham; her partner, Tal Shoham; their two children, Naveh and Yahel Shoham, who are eight and three; Avshalom’s sister Sharon Avigdori; and her daughter Noam Avigdori. The body of Paul Vincent Castelvi, a Filipino carer who looked after Eviatar, has also been found.

Italy’s foreign minister, Antonio Tajani, also confirmed the death of Kipnis and paid tribute to his family in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“With great sadness I confirm the death of Eviatar Moshe Kipnis, an Italian-Israeli citizen missing after the Hamas terrorist attack in Israel,” he wrote. “I am close to the family, especially his two sons who I met during my mission in Tel Aviv.

It saddens me deeply when I hear of the missing found to be dead, but I'm glad their loved ones have  some closure. Not knowing whether a loved one is dead or alive is, itself, a killer, imo.

To be certain, I've been in conflict zones and I have no doubt there would have been as many people as could squeeze into that open space/parking lot outside of the hospital - I've seen it. Precisely because it is a hospital and thus a (Geneva) conventionally protected structure. I've no idea what the official toll is, but there would have been many, many people in this area.

The "crater" is somewhat akin to a hole my dog would dig in my backyard; it was not a JDAM or any other type of airstrike. The photos from the scene clearly display a lack of structral damage to surrounding buildings (especially those flimsy mattresses atop cars and solar panels on roofs) that would be caused by an airstrike. Heck --- just look at all the pics from this very thread of buildings that were hit by actual airstrikes (they are smithereans).

What they do show is blast/fire/heat/shrapnel damage. Impact site of the failed rocket is close to the 3 cars destroyed thus their being in the worst shape. People in the immediate blast area (impact zone) would be heinously disfigured and thrown. Shrapnel (from the destroyed cars and the rocket itself), fire and heat would then have radiated out from that location causing the wounding and deaths that occured. That is why the cars a bit further out are fire damaged or barely damaged at all.

Air Strikes take out entire buildings - they do not leave every car in the immediate vicinty of impact upright nor would mattress remain of their roofs. Officialy - JMO of course.
Based on your experience in conflict zones, and the images coming in today (there's an especially graphic one with piles of what appear to be dead children, blurred in key spots - linked back on page 8 I believe), do you believe there were 300-500 people in that parking lot?

Or, is this just more propaganda as can be expected?

He wants them evacuated to the Negev desert in Israel. (Don't know much about it. Is it barren or populated?)
I can see his point, but ugh..won't happen.

Ugh..Isn't Negev in Jewish Israel?

At first I "loved" the post, because I thought Negev was in Egypt, but it appears to be in Israel.
It's a place to go, that's not been destroyed by bombing. With help, a desert wasteland can be turned into an oasis, imo.

Wondering if the Doctors at the hospital were part of the ruse? Staging photo op with dead children blaming Israel?
Moo

Exactly.

Military conflict does share vocabulary with sports whether people think that is appropriate or not. There are winners and losers, opponents, rules, training, tactics, game-plans, strategies, positions, boundaries, etc. etc.

In fact, sports are a way to alleviate conflict and tension. Unfortunately, this conflict won't be solved with healthy competition.

The President of the United States did not travel into a war zone to make light of it
. Please, people.

I agree but then I see comments like this from WashPo and I don't understand what Hudson means. Why?

I wondered about that as well, frankly. I wondered how frantically busy medical staff had time for a press conference. And yes, it did look staged, imo.

Bolding mine.
This ^^^^

A lot of photos/footage of the dead. So horrible.
But were they in the parking lot ?
Odd if so.
Were any of the photos staged ?
Tbh, I have issues trusting anyone who may support Hamas.
Omo.

Its not a wasteland. It has many Israeli residents.

What he should’ve said is “Sure! Egypt will take Palestinian brothers and sisters”

While that is a horrifying thought, there's some stuff in this article that leaves me wondering.

"Horrified doctors stood among a sea of children killed after a massive blast tore through a hospital in Gaza with fears more than 500 people are dead and scores more are trapped under the rubble. The huge explosion tore through the al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza City on Tuesday night while it was being used to treat and shelter thousands of civilians amid the ongoing conflict."

The images I've seen show the building still standing, with the damage concentrated in the parking lot.

Moo ...this will reflect on Drs without Borders. Several physicians in town volunteer with DWB and host a fundraiser every year, as well as volunteering for a month at a time.
