UN agency's supplies 'dwindling and running out fast'

Earlier, President Biden said Egypt had agreed to open the Rafah crossing to a handful of lorries loaded with aid for Gaza.

International aid agencies say the need for aid is urgent.

Juliette Touma, a spokeswoman for the UN Agency for Palestine Refugees, or UNWRA, said they were providing aid where possible, but said they are "overwhelmed".

"Our supplies are dwindling and running out fast," she says. "Our staff are also very, very tired.

"They have been impacted themselves by the war. Many of them lost loved ones. We have sadly at UNWRA lost 14 staff members and these numbers continue to increase."

Touma said the attacks on Gaza had meant that the agency had to relocate its operation to the south of Gaza where conditions to help people were far from ideal.

Bbm.
Indeed.
Vitally important.

Looking at the two cars and the smallish hole in the blacktop in the parking lot, I also question the body count at the hospital .
Doesn't look like enough damage for nearly 500 deaths ?
Unless the Hamas'-engineered (or Iranian) rocket hit the ground and continued at a horizontal level, killing more people inside ?

The explosion at the Al-Hali Hospital in Gaza is a human tragedy in which several dozen people were apparently killed. This is also a Palestinian tragedy, where we see again the Palestinian terrorist organizations murdering their own people, after they cynically use them as human shields. And in addition to everything, there is also a central media angle to the event: dozens of international media outlets, including leading and important ones, abandoned basic journalistic ethics and published incorrect, misleading and false information originating from a campaign planned by the terrorist organization Hamas. The terrorist organization Hamas does not have to use any means to promote its propaganda and its false messages. Hamas uses the international media to lie to world public opinion. Where is the responsibility of those media outlets and reporters, who usually work to cross-reference sources in order to present the full journalistic story? Any such irresponsible publication is a journalistic failure of whoever published it, when his/her only source of information is a terrorist organization that is worse than ISIS! Beyond ethics, these false publications resulted in regional riots, violence and incitement to murder. The media has a responsibility and obligation to integrity and truthful reporting. Yesterday, many of them failed in this mission.

Israel will let Egypt deliver some aid to Gaza, as doctors struggle to treat hospital blast victims

[…]

Israel shut off all supplies to Gaza soon after Hamas militants rampaged across communities in southern Israel on Oct. 7. As supplies run out, many families in Gaza have cut down to one meal a day and have been left to drink contaminated water, raising U.N. warnings of the risk of starvation.

The al-Ahli carnage threw the siege’s impact into sharp relief. Hundreds of wounded were rushed to another hospital that was nearly out of supplies and fuel for its generators, and doctors performed surgery on the floors, often without anesthesia.

Biden said Egypt’s president agreed to open the crossing and to let in an initial group of 20 trucks with humanitarian aid. If Hamas confiscates aid, “it will end,” he said. The aid will start moving Friday at the earliest, White House officials said.

Egypt must still repair the road across the border that was cratered by Israeli airstrikes. More than 200 trucks and some 3,000 tons of aid are positioned at or near Rafah crossing, Gaza’s only connection to Egypt, ready to go through, said the head of the Red Crescent for North Sinai, Khalid Zayed.

Supplies will go in under supervision of the U.N., Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry told Al-Arabiya TV. Asked if foreigners and dual nationals seeking to leave would be let through, he said: “As long as the crossing is operating normally and the (crossing) facility has been repaired.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said the decision was approved after a request from Biden. It said Israel “will not thwart” deliveries of food, water or medicine from Egypt, as long as they are limited to civilians in the south of the Gaza Strip and don’t go to Hamas militants. The statement made no mention of badly needed fuel.

Israel’s announcement that it will allow Egypt to deliver limited quantities of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip “falls short” of meeting the needs of the people of Gaza, Human Rights Watch said.

The office of Israel’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, said earlier on Wednesday that Israel will not allow any aid from its territory to the Gaza Strip, but that it “will not thwart humanitarian supplies from Egypt as long as it is only food, water and medicine for the civilian population”.

In a statement, HRW called on the Israeli government to allow electricity and fuel to run the local power plant or generators. “The collective punishment of the population is a war crime,” it said.

Bill Van Esveld, associate children’s rights director at HRW, said:

BBM
Remember the ”incident” of the stolen fuel at the hospital?
I would guess Hamas is putting them up to this request. They need fuel for the rockets.

IMO No fuel is going to be delivered.

@Momoffourboys : Thanks for the link !
"Several dozen" is a little different from 475-500.

Although even one death at the hand of Hamas or their supporters/backers is too many !
These people were civilians, and Hamas has no business firing rockets from within the populated areas of Gaza.

Who are you talking about, that supports these attacks? Such a generalized statement about 'people'. Which people?

If you're talking about Palestinians, IMO it's very unlikely they have heard or read any details of the attacks. Pretty sure they don't watch western media. They probably only heard that people in Israel were killed. And since Israel is their enemy, they don't mind.

This is just human nature during war.

JMO
The who is all the protestors around the world in various large cities saying Hamas was justified and they were just rising up against oppression. The ones saying Israel is now wrong for defending what was done to them. Not those in Gaza.. I understand if they are upset. It's those now committing attacks around the world against anyone that supports Israel. Most of us support Israel AND innocent Palestinians.

Heartbreaking moment Israeli teen survivor lays to rest entire family killed by Hamas

Gut-wrenching images showed an anguished 12-year-old Israeli boy saying goodbye to his news photographer father, mother, and sisters who were all slaughtered by Hamas terrorists while he went out on an early-morning run.

Ariel Zohar, dressed in all black and flanked by members of his extended family, sobbed while looking in horrified disbelief at the shroud-wrapped bodies of his dad, Yaniv Zohar, 54, his mother, Yasmin, 49, and his two sisters, Tehelet, 20, and Keshet, 18, at their joint funeral service in the city of Rishon LeTsiyon Tuesday.

Four members of the Zohar family were killed along with Ariel’s maternal grandfather, Haim Livne, at their home in Kibbutz Nahal Oz, located near the Gaza border, on the morning of October 7.

The boy survived the attack only because he was out jogging at the time. He later sheltered at a nearby house and escaped unharmed.

An estimated 1,000 mourners attended the emotional funeral service for the Zohar family, which was interrupted four times by air-raid sirens and incoming rocket fire from Gaza.

Is “several dozen” in reference to the hospital explosion yesterday? Where was this published?

I wonder, if in this meeting, the Palestinian Authority will also:

- confront the ongoing terroristic actions and threats of Hamas' actions towards Israel (indiscriminate firing
of munitions with no targetting protocol, thus putting civilians at risk with each and every one - a war
crime);
- confront the crossing of the red line of 'war crimes' committed by Hamas against unarmed civilians en
masse in Israel on 7/10;
- follow up to investigate and consult with the United Nations regarding the numerous war crimes committed by Hamas on 7/10;
- call upon Hamas to release, without delay or condition, the hostages they took (a war crime) and
removed from Israel to Gaza (another war crme this forced relocation is); and
- finally confront and deal with Hamas, the terrorist organisation, that the Palestinian Authority has allowed
to remain in governing power over the Gaza Strip palestinians since 2006.

I want to know these answers. I'm sure that innocent Palestinians must also want to know these answers.
Ha, I vaguely remember a quote I once heard: "If you are looking for logic and facts you should stick to physics, because you won't find it in politics!"

However, more seriously, no one seems to be giving much insight to the position of the PNA

"Abbas’s Fatah movement, which controls the PLO and Palestinian Authority ruling over the West Bank, has had a tense relationship with Hamas since the latter violently seized control of the Gaza Strip in 2007 and removed all Fatah officials from the coastal enclave..."

IMO, it's much easier to blast Hamas when you are safely out of reach of their assassins.

IDF says it's striking Hezbollah in Lebanon

The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) has said it is striking Hezbollah targets in Lebanon.
It has not yet given any further information.

Lebanese Al Mayadeen TV reported that Israeli air strikes targeted two villages in southern Lebanon in the early hours of Thursday.

The missiles were fired at Kafr Shuba and near Odaisseh, the channel added.
Hezbollah said it carried out attacks on Israeli military posts along the Israel-Lebanon border on Wednesday.

Hezbollah - like Hamas - has been designated a terrorist organisation by the UK, US and other countries.

Backed by Iran, it has a strong military and political presence in Lebanon, and wields considerable power in a country without a functioning government or president.

In 2006, it fought a devastating war with Israel in which 1,200 people died.

An Israeli soldier told the Sun: 'This place has many terrible secrets - and we're sadly finding more and more every day.
Many children died here - some horribly mutilated.'

Sad that there's not enough outrage over this, but more anger over the hospital attack that is sounding like it was 'friendly fire' ?
The dead and wounded at the hospital is on Hamas, imo, even if it came from Iran or was supplied by them.
I wish the presser held would've placed blame where it was due.

If anything happened to the relatives of the people tearing down the missing posters, they'd feel differently, right ?

Wish that it didn't happen to anyone !

Link below : People are raging that Gaza isn't 'free'. Or. 'Let Gaza live'.
Rage instead against Hamas and the terrorists, they are the ones who are causing their own people to suffer.

Capitol Police said of the mass arrests: 'We warned the protestors to stop demonstrating and when they did not comply we began arresting them.'

Rep. Randy Weber posted on X a video of a sign he had hanging outside his office that said 'I stand with Israel' that had been torn down by protesters.

Bolding mine.
Not ok, protesters. :(

A zero tolerance policy directed towards those who are supporting Israel is not going to help sway people to their side.

More now on clashes between Israel and other neighbours.

Exchanges of fire between Hezbollah militants and the Israeli army have increased around the Israel-Lebanon border area in recent days.

Clashes there have left at least 18 people dead on the Lebanese side.

Most of the dead have been combatants, including 10 Hezbollah fighters, but they also include a Reuters journalist and two civilians.

On the Israeli side, at least three people have been killed.

On 10 October, for the first time since the Hamas surprise attack, the Israeli army announced that it had fired shells into Syria from the Golan Heights – in response, it claimed, to projectiles being fired on the territory, occupied by Israel since 1967.

An Israeli airstrike on Saturday targeted the Aleppo airport, injuring five people and putting the airport out of service.

Previous Israeli raids on 12 October targeted the airports of both Aleppo and the capital Damascus – both controlled by the Syrian government – rendering them inoperable, according to state media.

Israel rarely comments on individual strikes it carries out on Syria, but it has repeatedly said it would not allow Iran, which supports Damascus, to expand its footprint there.

Israel strikes Syrian govt position in south: NGO

The Israeli government struck a Syrian military position in the war-torn country’s south, a war monitoring NGO, cited by AFP, said on Wednesday.

“Sounds of explosions rang out in the province of Quneitra after an Israeli strike against a Syrian army position,” said the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which has a vast network of sources in the country.

The sound of explosions was also heard in the Golan Heights, the NGO said, without specifying their source.

The strike in Quneitra caused material damage, the organisation said, and has not yet been mentioned by official Syrian media.

The raid coincides with an announcement by the Israeli army on X, formerly Twitter, of strikes against “terrorist positions” of Hezbollah – an ally of the Syrian regime and enemy of Israel – in Lebanon, which borders Golan.
