And yet, we seem to be okay with it…..so weird.
I'm not sure what you mean. I'm not okay with that. But it's hamas and only hamas putting those lives in danger, and only they can reverse those choices. It should not preclude Israel from doing what it needs to do. Loss of civilian life of any creed, color, or nation is equally tragic. It seems that Israel values the Palestinian civilians far more than hamas.

When we see a parent abusing their child, do we all shrug and say 'they shouldn't do that' and walk away? Or do we intervene?

@otto

Yes. Cooper Union is a private college in Downtown Manhattan.

I grew up in a neighborhood very near there, a Jewish kid in a predominantly Jewish neighborhood at the time, with never one thought or care for my safety.

It is repulsive that Jewish college students, in Manhattan of all places, should be in danger. At the hands of their own peers.

If Jews aren’t safe in Israel or NYC, where are we safe?
I'm so sorry that this is what is happening. I am not Jewish, I am a white American woman who does not know what it's like to be hated for my religion or my ethnicity. I will likely never know first hand what this feels like, but I stand with you. I have never and will never hate another just because they were born in a different place, look different or worship different from me. There are so many that stand with you. I know words can feel so little, but my love behind them is so big. So many are standing with you, with Israel, and even with those in Gaza that are truly innocent and stuck.

Oct 25, 2023 #IDF #Israel #HamasAttack
The Israeli military invited journalists, including NBC News, to view footage of the Oct. 7 terror attack. The IDF also released Hamas video of the attack on the Supernova music festival exclusively to NBC News. NBC News’ Raf Sanchez describes some of what he saw in the 46 minutes of raw footage.

WARNING: This story contains distressing details.Israeli Defence Forces held a special briefing for foreign journalists, which included never-before-seen footage from the Oct. 7 Hamas attack. Graeme Wood, a Canadian journalist with The Atlantic, witnessed the briefing and said the videos show 'pure predatory sadism, and no effort to spare those who pose no threat.'

The Israeli military has released a chilling audio conversation between a purported Hamas militant and his family in which the Palestinian fighter is heard boasting about killing 10 people during the October 7 massacre. The audio conversation appears to be from the day of Hamas’ assault on Israel on October 7.
Unconscionable!

Driving home tonight through my little po-dunk southern city on my way home from a meeting - I noticed police cars standing watch at two different synagogues. Never have I seen this before. It’s really very unsettling that there is so much hate in this world, and I just don’t understand it at all. I am so very sorry that my fellow Americans and Jewish citizens all over the world are experiencing this. My heart goes out to you.

4 students, out of over 11,000 undergrads.
Still....I bet they aren't even Palestinian or even affiliated with the region. "Our" martyrs....

Civilians should always be protected over destroying terrorists. But it seems many comments here support the killing of innocents just because some of the people from their country support Hamas.

That’s like blaming me for the criminal nightmare that is DJT.

“Don’t you put that evil on me!”
Again, Israel has to do what it is has to do. The blood of those Palestinian civilians is on hamas's hands alone. They are stone cold terrorists who wouldn't hesitate to use their own people to kill more Israelis. It should not be forgotten that they currently hold more than 200 hostages from 30 countries. They've given no update, no Red Cross access, no proof of life, nothing. Those hostages need to be released immediately. Otherwise, it leaves those 30 countries no other choice. The slaughter of innocents on October 7 is an additional reason that Israel must do what it must do to ensure the safety of its people moving forward.

Biden urges new US House speaker to ‘move swiftly’ on Israel, Ukraine aid

US President Joe Biden calls for the newly elected Republican speaker of the US House of Representatives to act quickly on approving military aid for Israel and Ukraine.

“We need to move swiftly to address our national security needs and to avoid a shutdown in 22 days,” Biden says in a statement congratulating Mike Johnson on his election after weeks of gridlock.

Biden: There’s no going back to pre-war status quo, there must be vision of 2 states

US President Joe Biden says, “There’s no going back to the status quo as it stood on October 6.”

“That means ensuring that Hamas can no longer terrorize Israel and use Palestinians civilians as human shields. It also means that when this crisis is over, there has to be a vision of what comes next, and in our view it has to be a two-state solution,” he says in a joint press conference with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

Biden indicates that he has suggested delaying the ground operation in order to secure the release of more hostages but insists that this was not a directive.

“What I have indicated to him is, that if that’s possible, to get these folks out safely, that’s what he should do. It’s his decision. I did not demand it. I’ve pointed out to him if it’s real, it should be done,” Biden says, adding that the hostages are “in jeopardy.”

Security Council votes down Russian-backed resolution calling for Gaza ceasefire

A Russian-drafted UN Security Council resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza has failed to win the nine-vote minnimum.

Only Russia, China, the UAE and Gabon voted in favor of the draft, while nine members abstained; and the US and the UK voted against.

Families of Israelis held captive by Hamas meet with Italian PM

Relatives of Israelis held hostage by Hamas meet with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in Rome to speak about their anguish and raise awareness for their loved ones’ plight in Gaza.

Nadav Kipnis’ parents, Evyatar and Lilich Kipnis, were found dead days after the October 7 Hamas attack. His cousin is being held captive.

“None of them deserved to be treated in such horrible ways. We have to spread the message of anything that can help. It’s what my parents would have wanted,” Kipnis says.

Ilan Regev’s two children, 21-year-old Maya and 18-year-old Itay, were kidnapped at the Nova Music Festival.

Hamas has said it seeks the release of all Palestinian prisoners held by Israel in exchange for the captives.

“Give them everything, 4,000, 5,000 prisoners in Israel. I don’t care, these are children, babies, bring them back,” Regev says.

For those of you who can't view tweets, here is what this one says:

The IDF reveals a handwritten note found on the body of a Hamas terrorist calling to commit a merciless massacre in Israel. “Sharpen the blades of your swords and be pure in your intentions before Allah. Know that the enemy is a disease that has no cure, except for beheading and uprooting their hearts and livers. Attack them!"

It is Israel who is lobbing air strikes on Palestinian refugee settlements, not Hamas. I'm still trying to figure out how an Israel tank "accidently" fired at Egypt's border guards.

JMO

An Israeli airstrike on the largest refugee camp in the Gaza Strip on Sunday killed at least 30 people, most of them women and children, Al Jazeera reported, citing Gaza’s Ministry of the Interior. At least 27 more people were injured.

In recent days, health officials in Gaza have collected so many bodies that, after Israeli airstrikes over the weekend killed well over 100 people, they no longer have enough shrouds for the dead.

“We’ve been here since the crack of dawn and the bodies have completely filled the hospital yard, on top of the bodies which are in refrigerators which are full, inside the hospital building and outside,” a staff member helping to transport bodies told the BBC.
Yes, that's why I said difficult.
Israel has to eliminate Hamas and it's sad that the terrorists are using human shields.
Which is why their deaths are ultimately at the hands of Hamas.
Israel is targeting terrorist strongholds , even 'refugee camps' that are actually high rise buildings that could be the headquarters of many terrorists.

Israel gave them time to evacuate, they even dropped leaflets.
If Hamas isn't letting them leave --which it sounds like this might be happening -- then Hamas are the murderers, not Israel.
It's sad for the children who have no choice.
Omo.

I don't understand why Islam isn't soundly denouncing hamas the world over.

@Gypsy Road

Clearly your “po-dunk Southern city” has produced a person of compassion, and I truly appreciate the support!

There’s been a police car in front of my synagogue for a few years now, right here in NYC where there are so many Jews. I figured there were threats from somewhere, but obviously not on a panic level.

Now the hatred is out in the open and violent attacks are ricocheting around the city. Worse than before.

What was insidious is now invidious. From sneaky harmful, to overtly harmful.

I'm sure Hamas steals the fuel from the hospitals.
Ita.
The Palestinian people need to rise up and say "No more".
This suffering is at the hands of their gov't., Hamas.
It's not going to stop ... until the people have had enough and reject everything that's causing them hardship.

BBM. It is the Israeli Military who have been launching air strikes on Palestinian civilians who have sought safety for their families in refugee camps. Facts do matter.

Nasser Abu Quta said 19 members of his family including his wife were killed when an air raid hit their home, where they were huddling on the ground floor in Rafah.

There were no fighters in his building, he said. “This is a safe house, with children and women,” the 57-year-old Abu Quta told the Associated Press news agency by telephone.

Another strike in the same city early Monday killed 11, including women and children.

For 19 days our civilians have been under rocket fire from Hamas.

Millions of Israelis are running back and forth to bomb shelters.

Since the beginning of the war, the Hamas terrorist organization has been exploiting civilians and civilian sites such as kindergartens, schools, and mosques for the purpose of firing rockets at Israel. Hamas deliberately fires its rockets at Israeli civilians>>
