Canada's Trudeau calls for release of hostages and humanitarian aid for Gaza in talks with Netanyahu

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau expressed his continued support for Israel’s right to defend itself in its war against Hamas when he spoke with his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu on Saturday.

Trudeau also called for the immediate release of hostages held by Hamas and underlined the need to provide humanitarian aid to those in Gaza, according to a readout from his office.

Trudeau received assurances from Netanyahu that “Canadians in Gaza will be able to leave in the coming days,” according to a readout from Trudeau’s office.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) informed Canadian officials Saturday “that more than 400 Canadian citizens, permanent residents and eligible family members will be able to leave Gaza through the Rafah border crossing” as they make their way back to Canada.

There are currently 5,755 Canadians registered with the Registration of Canadians Abroad in Israel and 453 Canadians registered in the West Bank and Gaza, according to the latest update from Global Affairs Canada (GAC).

U.S. Secretary of State, Antony Blinken will reportedly continue with his Visit to Baghdad, Iraq tomorrow despite the Threats issued today by the Iranian-Backed “Kata'ib Hezbollah” who stated they would launch “Unprecedented Escalations” on U.S. Assets in the Country including the American Embassy and Green Zone in Baghdad if he still decides to Visit.

One watches it with the awareness that a disaster is to struck.

Those walking seemingly relaxed then, now might be dead :(
I saw so many young men wandering around during the day. I wondered how many of them invaded a farming community to brutally kill 1400 people at 6:30 AM on October 7. How many used AK47s to kill people attending a music festival? How many abducted 240 civilians? How many chased trucks as they paraded hostages through the streets and beat the victims with sticks?

I'm not surprised that the population is angry. They seem to have little pride in their home cities. There is garbage and graffiti everywhere. Just like Hitler, the Gaza government needs a scapegoat to distract from their incompetence. Why doesn't the government clean up and repair the streets? We know they have money. The Hamas militants are like the Wehrmacht, militants enacting orders from above ... and they are primed with anger for their lot in life blaming Israel rather than their own government.

Photos show painted red handprints left tonight on a fence in front of the White House, where protesters had gathered, some holding Palestinian flags. Demonstrators marched in Washington today, some calling for a cease-fire in the Israel-Hamas war.

In a statement tonight, U.S. Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi said there had been an attempted gate trespass earlier which was "handled without incident" by the Secret Service and others.

Watch a Russian reporter's 'journey' to the underground tunnels in Gaza. Learn more: http://bit.ly/45X8NY

...
Since 2014, the IDF has deployed special combat units for these tunnels, trained around simulated tunnels, and learned to use specific sensors to understand the happenings within the tunnels and specialized elements for fighting within them using robots and dogs.
Spencer noted that he had never heard of an army so well-trained in tunnel warfare as the Israeli military. However, Richmond-Barak wrote in a report to the Financial Times that Israel would "need to engage in a long-term and extensive aerial and ground operation to destroy this underground infrastructure. Even this scenario, which may cause significant casualties, is unlikely to succeed in destroying the entire network of tunnels in Gaza."

Protestors in Washington might want to expand their minds and see the bigger picture, unless they are Palestinians living in the area. Then they are happy to hear this news.

I think the dysfunction in the US House of Representatives has been observed closely by Hamas, hence the statement that the US will collapse like the USSR. I think they are looking at the potential of government shutdowns and discord as a display of US impotence. They are also aware of the apparent paralysis when it comes to approving funding. I think the situation in the US contributed to the Hamas decision to attack Israel - between internal discord in Israel spawned by Netanyahu and the great divides in US politics, the timing looked optimal for them. That's rude - damaging property where everyone with an idea protests year round. They're not the only people that like to make a fuss at the White House. Why are they vandalizing property? I hope it's cleaned up by the morning.

It seems like there was a parallel "divided" society in the USA and Israel at the time of the massacre in Israel. Israel pulled it together quickly, but it may not last beyond the war. Of course, everyone around the planet is watching the political climate in the USA. We can't look away.

"Bring them home — now!”

"Thousands of people gathered at the recently renamed Captives Square in central Tel Aviv Saturday night to show support for the families of the hundreds of people held hostage by the Hamas terror group in Gaza.

Shortly after the rally, remaining participants, including some families of those held hostage, were forced to scramble for cover as rockets were launched at the central city and surrounding areas, a reminder of the war still raging in the south as Israel seeks to topple Hamas while also seeking the captives’ release.

And in Jerusalem and elsewhere, hundreds renewed protests against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, accusing the premier of mishandling the war and hostage negotiations and calling for his resignation.

Outside the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, participants held up posters with pictures of those kidnapped by Hamas terrorists on October 7, calling for them to be brought home even as they expressed a variety of views on how to best achieve that goal."

Gaza city walking tour prior to the Hamas massacre of civilians in Israel.
It's not a clean city. That stands out for me, but appears to be affluent in cultural context.

I saw this video, too @otto and found it quite interesting... I'm glad you posted it!

Canadians should put up a Canadian flag. If they are waving the wrong flag, they are not Canadians. Canadians don't like anyone to disrupt their peaceful lives. Why do countries allow citizens to wave the wrong flag? It looks like an invasion not a statement.

Murders, vandalism and chanting in other countries. A woman in the USA was murdered a week ago, now a woman in France. It opens the question of antisemitic murders throughout the world.

Is it typical for a Russian Air Force (RFF) aircraft to be flying in the area?
I just read that it is usually for transporting VIP’s. IMO
