Found Deceased Jenny Hall, 23, described as a keen long distance runner, vehicle located on the B2678 between Eggleston & Stanhope, County Durham, Feb 18 2025.

they have done the digital forensics bit with her phone and appear to be very concerned - this suggests that there is more known than has been released - actually getting approval to conduct digital forensic tracking would not normally happen for someone just thought to have gone jogging imho

I wonder why they haven’t found any information from the phone/watch tracking? You would think it would show her last known location, unless it’s been disabled by her (for mental health reasons) or someone else. I also wonder if she was trail running or road running? The latter may be more unsafe (accidental hit and run or picked up by someone nefarious). JMO.

We want to thank the public for their ongoing support and whilst we appreciate the offer of volunteers, we would ask that people do not join the search themselves as this could disturb the ongoing work and potentially distract expert sniffer dogs," police said in a statement.

surely according to the info given previously, she was heading to Barnard Castle which is further along the road where the car was abandoned (looks deliberately parked to me) - logically Hamsterley forest would be in the wrong direction if my understanding of that area is correct?

so this may suggest that they have some other reason for the focus on Hamsterley forest

Really concerning and hoping for a positive outcome. Having done long distance running for years I would agree with some of the posts previously that neither a hoodie or jogging bottoms would be used for that which suggests either she would have removed them before running or was having a more gentle run/walk in which case probably wouldn't have used any app, albeit would have her phone on.

The car seems sensibly parked in the way of someone walking a dog or running, so I suspect that the police know a lot more and that running may not be the significant factor.

What is classed as long distance running? (Not a runner)
Awful going into the 4th day with no news

A hoodie and joggers are perfectly normal running gear (I'm a runner). Long distance runners don't always go for long distance runs.
I’m also a runner but would never run in jogging bottoms, too baggy and once wet will ne hideous. I’d say if she is running on that terrain she would dress forvit

So I don’t think she’s really gone for a run…. Or walk

In a video-recorded statement, posted onto Durham Constabulary's Facebook page, Chief Inspector Dean Haythornthwaite said: "It's day four now in the search for Jenny Hall and you will see officers and colleagues from mountain rescue in Hamsterley Forest carrying on that search activity and we want to say thank you to all members of the public who have contacted us with information

The fact police are asking public not to join the search suggests they are looking for a body imo. They are stating no third party involvement which makes me think they believe she has either had an accident and either succumbed to the injury or the cold weather, or has ended her life. Her devices being untraceable leans itself to the latter.

However, I can't help think of the lady in America whose car was found to make it look like she'd gone for a walk with her dogs. The reality was her ex partner had murdered her and the dogs and staged the car. I'm of course not saying that is what's happened here, it's just another scenario that I've seen on here. All moo.

The hoodie and joggers might not mean the thick casual type and might have been lightweight technical running wear. Weather can change quickly in moorland areas so she may have layered.

I don’t run but I play sports and in the cold weather will sometimes put sweatpants/jogging bottoms over my leggings/tights to travel in and then strip off once I start playing.

I would say the person stating this would mean she easily runs 10 or more miles (I’m in the US), so 15K or more. For races, it would probably mean anything over 5K. But it would be somewhat dependent on who is classifying her as a “long distance runner.”

For a woman at 23, she may be doing marathons. For a 35-year-old woman, it may mean ultra distances (longer than marathon).

has it been reported who made the last sighting of her?

the car being parked as it is, does allow for the possibilty of another car sitting waiting for her - perhaps a previously planned rendezvous

highly unlikely i know but given the lack of any trace where they are searching i guess it must be a possibility

Generally it is quite arbitrary and specific to the person, could be anything from 6m/10k upwards, although even ultra runners would still run 5k runs once a week.

But the fact that it the one of the key descriptive details of her, plus driving to the run and the location suggest it would be much longer and a regular two hour runner which would be around 12-15 miles for most on that terrain.

Which as the post below mine said, two hours in a hoodie and jogging bottoms would be horrendous, they would be drenched in sweat and weigh a ton even without rain or snow.

We live in the area very nearby. [Mod snip]

There is snow on the hills. It's very remote and high up. I don't know why the reports would say they thought she was heading in the Barnard Castle direction as that would mean going back the way she drove and not a fell running area. At the moment they're searching Hamsterley Forest which was apparently one of her regular runs. She is a fell runner as well as a long distance runner.

To me it seems an odd time of day to go for a run. If she left home just after 3pm it would be getting on for 3.45pm by the time she parked the car. It gets dark around 5pm but light can be bad from 4pm if it's cloudy and already starting to get dark.

Another thought is there are regular cars and lorries passing along that road and it's very remote .... Wondering if someone could have nabbed her. But at the moment it's more likely either she has had an accident, fell in a hole or something - or didn't intend to come back IMO.

Just to add to above post - there isn't really a phone signal in that area, which might explain not taking her phone, but I believe there are still patches of signal so you would think someone would take the phone or smartwatch. There is a very good 4G signal in the area so when it comes into signal it's a good signal - but depends which direction she went.

Yes same. Everyone is different and perhaps Jenny is someone who just likes to run in sweatpants but I would never do so myself because as you say it very quickly becomes hideous, wet, horrible feeling and also very hot even on a cold day. I would assume that the likelihood is that Jenny would wear proper running leggings for longer runs, those can tend to also have reflective bits sewn into them so it is safer to run at night etc. Especially unlikely to wear sweatpants to run on muddy trails where they would get horribly muddy and wet -- although even with a headtorch running trails alone in the dark would be unsafe.

I doubt that she went for a run. I hope she is found safe and well soon.

All I can see on Police reports is

"Digital intelligence officers have examined Ms Hall's mobile phone, smartwatch and running apps, but have found no leads." Link below

It's possible someone has interpreted that as the physical phone and watch rather than just examining digitally another way - <modsnip> But the word "examined" does sound like they physically have the phone and watch.

There is also another/different photo of her on this link. This is from one of the local papers that says it has live updates.
